Thailand's ex-PM Thaksin to serve 8 years in jail - court statement
george replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
UPDATE: THAKSIN WILL STAY IN PRISON MEDICAL WARD After a medical check-up, the Department of Corrections stated that former PM Thaksin Shinawatra, 74, has five medical conditions. He will be held in a separate medical ward within the prison and monitored by medical specialists. The five conditions include ischemic heart muscle, chronic pulmonary inflammation, high blood pressure, degenerated spine, and abnormal posture. The food he receives in prison will be provided solely by the prison, and his visitation privileges will adhere to the same rules as other prisoners. However, only his lawyer will be allowed to visit during the first five days of his incarceration. #Thailand #ทักษิณ #ทักษิณกลับไทย- 134 replies

UPDATE: 8 years jail sentence for Thaksin

I personally accompanied the British guy to Labour Department after having had his paperwork and complete paperwork from employer, WP3 etc etc. sorted (complete stack of documentation, no change here). I was also present when he picked up his WP booklet. Not sure if this is a local change or nationwide. Or a one-off thing. I was also curious, and that was the reason for my op. I will check with Labour here for any official change and get back to you. Don’t shoot the messenger.

A friend of mine in Hua Hin has managed to get a Work Permit after applying with full company documentation etc etc etc but with a one year retirement extension. And Labour will apparently continue to renew WP with no regards to extension type. it seems that Labor Department (at least in Prachuap Khirikhan) does not require NON-B or NON-O Marrage in order to issue a WP. He got a Tax-ID and social fund as well. Anyone can confirm or comment on an important change here?

BANGKOK: — Cyberscamming has become a trillion-dollar industry, with the numbers of both scammers and victims soaring over the past three years. Many young Thais have been enticed by online job advertisements promising well-paid work in Cambodia and Myanmar. but once they cross the border into these "special economic zones" (SEZs), many wind up in the hands of Chinese gangs who confiscate their passports. They’ve been scammed, and now – on pain of death or torture - they’re scammers themselves. On this edition of Deeper Dive, host Dave Kendall explores the scams, explains how to avoid them and speaks to Nikkei Asia’s Dominic Faulder, author of the award-winning article “Asia’s Scamdemic: how Covid-19 supercharged online crime”. — Dave Kendall, Bangkok Post 2023-05-11
