  1. “We began enforcing the rule from May 3 [saturday] after receiving an order from Bangkok,”

Mmmm.... So both houses of the govt make rules, but it's up to the immigration / police to decide to enforce them ?

    Interesting

It's always been the rule that the final decision rests at the individual Immigration officer's discretion, despite the letter of the law.

  2. Anyone help with this one?

My pal (UK) has a retirement visa which expires on 4 July. However, his passport expires on 27 November this year. Then he'll return to the UK for Christmas and come back here in January. He can get an O/A based on marriage in the UK, then later convert it to a retirement if he wants to.

Is it likely Immi will give him an extension until his passport expires - i.e. for about 6 months? If so, would it be the same cost as a 12 month extension?

  3. Why am I not surprised ... I actually know of someone who gets his extension based on retirement (money in the bank) extended each year for about 20,000Baht ... he doesn't have the 800,000 Baht ... says it cheaper than a flight back to the UK! I don't think that I will see much change in this area in the not-too immediate future!!!!!!!!!!

20, 000 baht! It's 12 grand round our way ... Someone is being well ripped off.

How much do the money lenders charge for 800k for 2 months?

    Should be about 16-20k.

    12k is a good price. rolleyes.gif

Well, an agent only needs 1 lot of 800,000 baht. If he has more he can serve more clients per day. He puts in into the a/c of client number 1, nips to Immi with the passport and bank book, gets the visa, withdraws the 800k and goes on to client number 2.

Of course, he may just bung the Immi officer to 'see' a non-existent bank book ...

  4. This Skyrocket price inflation is where ?

Cannot say I noticed, 2 kg cheese this week was still 655 baht, so is cheaper than about 3-4 years ago, also needed butter 5kg still the same price as 1 year ago, big Lemons cost 14 baht so why buy 12 baht tiny limes ? fresh Veg on the Village markets appear to be the same price, Thursday on going shopping stopped for Lunch at a nice little place, still the same price, big plate, red pork mix 25 baht... went up about 4 years ago from 20 baht.

For sure bottled Gas has gone up each time need another bottle, but that was expected... Mango's believe this year are cheaper then ever before.. Thursday 10 kg for 100 baht big yellow ripe one.. I am sure in all the years have never got 10 kg for that price

I'd love to know where you get 2 kg of cheese for 655 baht. Makro?

  5. In the UK, if there's a parachute malfunction and a person dies, parachute packers are immediately removed from duty and placed on a charge of manslaughter until an investigation has been concluded.

They will be court-martialled if it is thought the incident was due to their negligence.

Further, during training, all packers have to jump with canopies they have packed themselves,. That keeps them on the ball!

  6. Significant traffic pattern changes would seem to require:

    Planning and testing

    Community/merchant involvement and input

    Prior public education

    Media blitz concerning affected areas

    Implementation on a non-work day

Positioning traffic assist personnel well in advance of changeover

Enforcement with warnings at first/fines to follow/towingwhen appropriate

This doesn't seem to happen in Thailand from my experience. Very little publicity, very little input and then implementation. The end result is chaos, frustration and back peddling.

That's because the Thai mentality is 'Well, I know about it, so why don't you too'.

They think we are all 'maw doo' and should be able to read what passes for their minds ...

  7. I think you'll find NAPLES is the place where pizza originated - you know, in Italy ...

I have a New Yorker acquaintance who swears black is white that pizza was invented there, and now we have Chicagoans muscling in.

Who cares, as long as it tastes good. The Thai stuff is muck, that's for sure.

  8. Prison for a long time, a hefty fine and financial restitution to the deceased's family, especially the disabled brother. That's the least that should happen and it would in the UK.

However, TiT, and as people have said, a long holiday in Singapore will probably be all that comes off.

But to be more worried about your car (aka penis length) than the person you killed ... Throw the book at him.
