  1. And Halal menus. Pork is eaten everywhere here. A quick rinse of the wok ain't gonna cut it. Except for isolated pockets, and down south, virtually non Muslim, non Arabic speaking. The Saudis are just not interested. 30,000 visitors pa? That says everything.
  2. Yes, I've encountered that in decrypted (hacked) datasets eg a digitised list of UK phone codes.
  3. I think you've got a point. Unearthing the titles to the land on either side of it would I'm sure prove highly revealing. In fact, it should be possible to find out the owners (ie those named on the chanotes) from the land office if you have the title numbers. I wonder how many would step forward and claim ownership of some dodgy title?
  4. Well there you have it. If you get flattened in the process, som nam na. Separate pedestrians and traffic. Fines for jay walking. Problem solved.

  6. They might be more costly, and maybe more problematic access wise, but I don't think there is a single pedestrian bridge in Pattaya. Not even over Sukhumvit. A ramp would allow access to just about everybody. Ok, they wouldn't look too good on Beach Rd, but on 2, 3 and Nua, Klang and Tai? No need to police them either. And extra space for street vendors!
  7. I drove a cab in London for over 10 years, and believe me, pedestrian crossings really require you to look way up the street repeatedly. Your eyes get trained to pick out the orange beacons, but a lot now don't have them. It means driving with the utmost caution at all times, which, of course, is the only way. Plus, foreign pedestrians will step out looking in the opposite direction. First rule SLOW BLOODY DOWN!
  8. I've only just started with the diet, but the absence of my morning toast is the hardest part so far. I've found various breads online, using almond flour etc etc, but thought now might be a good time to do a spot of baking. Has anyone experience of baking keto bread in a bread baker? Tips, ingredients, advice, make and models etc etc much appreciated!
  9. If they had a Highway Code it might be a start. Overtaking on a pedestrian crossing is a definite nono in the UK. And teach people rights of way. Education, education, education. Anyone that has a licence must produce it at the centre that issues them. They will be issued with a copy of the Thai highway code, which they will sign for. After 30 days they will return for a test. Fail, and you lose your licence until you can pass the test.
  10. Had my Moderna booster today, actually shot no. 4, after 2 x Sinovac and an AstraZaneca. Booked it last July and postponed it twice to allow 3 months between 3rd and 4th. Given by Piyavet hospital in Makasan station, 2nd floor. As usual, well organised, no crowds, and the bonus ball was, they update Mor Prom for you while you wait, print out a new certificate, and update your vax passport, if you have one. Total cost 1650, 1200 to book and 450 in the day. Back in July there wasn't much around so grabbed it. If you bought the same deal, easiest route by public transport is Makasan station. I went to Ekkamai from Pattaya, then Asoke, Sukhumvit MRT, Petchaburi MRT. YMMV.
  11. So what if they said that? They can say whatever they like. What's your point?
  12. They said the same about the pavements on Tai and elsewhere. Did you read his comments about that complete fxxx up? I posted a link. You think their promises actually mean anything? Do you really have faith in these guys?
  13. I read it. Do you live there, or nearby? Take a look for yourself.
  14. The last batch I bought I left on my balcony in sunlight. After about a week they were still rock hard. Losing patience I attacked one with a meat cleaver only to find a putrid mess inside. It had totally duped me into thinking it wasn't ripe. I'm not going to throw good money after bad again. They're either slightly soft when I buy them or I won't get fooled again.
  15. Yes, I've almost hit it. I saw on some program that if you harvest them too early, they will never ripen, and that seems to be what's happening. They sit there in piles in the big supermarkets. Nobody goes near them. I suppose they all get chucked out. What a waste. Anyone got a take on this? I'm quite partial to a decent avocado, but hard to come buy here in Pattaya I've discovered. Even in the markets.
  16. So here's my proposal, a copy of which will be submitted to the Pattaya planning office, aka the "you what?" office. 1 rename it Walking Dead St. 2 open a zombie theme park. Shouldn't be difficult. It's already full of them! Minimal expenditure. Simple rebranding exercise. Job done.
  17. Here's a photo of the billboard at the Bali Hai end announcing works by PEA. It's been there since early November. You'll have to use Google lens to translate it. Seems it should have been completed earlier this month. There is nothing remotely resembling the idyllic scene portrayed. It's just a shambles from one end to the other.
  18. See this article re pavements and cables elsewhere in Pattaya: https://thepattayanews.com/2022/01/20/pattaya-mayor-apologizes-and-explains-the-problem-with-the-long-under-construction-sidewalks-on-central-and-south-pattaya-roads/
  19. The majority of overseas immigrants here are not us expats, who constitute only a very small percentage of the total, but the workforces from Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar, and disparate groups such as hill tribe people, who only get a pink card. From the 2018 UN document, there were nearly 5m all told. Probably shrunk significantly over the last 2 years. Now there's a chronic labour shortage here.
  20. Sure, that may have been the plan. But what's the point of doing it now? You don't start a major refurb by building pavements. 1 nobody can walk there while they're building in any case. 2 the pavements will all be dug up again in the process of surrounding work. It's a joke. Some of the clubs have made a half hearted attempt at reopening, but it just means a long tail back at chucking out/up time. It's dead, passed on, gone over to the other side. RIP. The mayor's avin a larf.
  21. Can't see anything being done there, but they do occasionally close parts of it off to do some digging. I drive up "Walking" St regularly in the wee hours. The road is completely broken up. You couldn't walk along it without twisting your ankles at every step, so calling it Walking St is a joke. There are no pavements. I can't see they've changed anything. Several buildings sea side have been demolished, the rest look like a bomb hit them. It's a total write off.
  22. How about introducing imagination into the equation! I mean, I can imagine, ie visualize, a journey across Mars terrain, probably because I've seen it on a NASA video at some time. But, I can't imagine a dinner in a 3 star Michelin restaurant consisting of lobster and champagne. Well, maybe I can, but is this what Sugar Mountain is going to offer me? The Matrix was an all encompassing existence for those inside it, although the only inhabitants we meet are the agents Smith. The other inhabitants weren't aware of their "non existence". They had no consciousness. They were software creations, as evidenced by the programmer who asks Neo about the lady in the red dress. Anyway, to return to imagination. Or dreams. Can these be captured and replayed? Developed, enhanced, realised? Will we all become part of somebody else's metaworld?
  23. A lot of the data is questionable I guess, given the current situation. Many migrant workers went home over the last 2 years. Many seem to be keen to come back to work but are finding it hard work just getting in to Thailand. Still no clear route.
  24. The data set they're using is from 2011. The Worldometer figure as of today is over 70m total living in Thailand. https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/thailand-population/ As for the migrant population, last UN figures were for 2018. Total just under 5m. https://thailand.un.org/en/50831-thailand-migration-report-2019 The above is a huge pdf file, but on page 11 you'll see the breakdown of the immigrant population back then.
  25. Yes, and from a point of total ignorance on my part, what about quantum states where you could be both dead and alive at the same time?
