  1. And Bill. Microsoft are buying Activision for $69 billion. Seems virtualization is the way forward, now that the weaknesses of globalisation have been exposed by Covid.
  2. No. I mean all of us being held in a state of suspended animation somewhere, stacked 10,000 high and 1,000,000 across, would either die or wake up. Not what Sugarhill wants. With 99% of the population living in a virtual world, which takes up no actual space, apart from that occupied by the 10 billion bodies whose brains are generating their very own virtual world, the other 1% have the whole planet to themselves. Jeff and Mark and Elon, and selected chums, that is.
  3. That's what I meant. Getting hospitalised is going to be costly one-way or another. I thought it was possible to isolate at home now.
  4. That's what occurred to me. I know very little of what Zuckerberg has in mind, but it seemed there were parallels with the Matrix virtual world, if it can be described as such. Even now, I'm plugged in most of my waking life, via my phone. Unplugging even from the current level of virtuality would be difficult for me, and I'm not even into VR or gaming. I know how addictive gaming is. I know how addictive coding can be. And just FB, online forums, such as this, soak up a lot of hours. Seems my brain was custom made for a Metaverse/Matrix that controls my life.
  5. Don't quite get how "ending up in a Bangkok Hospital with very light symptoms" is good news, especially after 2 shots of Moderna.
  6. The sil was given fair warning at the time. He was perceived as a dangerous threat, causing fear and alarm. This was by no means the first time. He's a public nuisance. It's self defense. Murder won't stand up in court. Who says the old man intended to whack him? But let's wait and see how this thing pans out. Probably the last we'll hear of it though.
  7. Can you quote me Thai law on what maybe constitutes legitimate force? In fact, quote me the Thai law on trespass? Precedents? I'm happy to go down any legal avenues open to me, if I'm still alive. It's what I did last time.
  8. So here's the thing. He's kicking your door in, and you politely enquire if he's armed? The cxxxx got no business being on your property trying to force an entry, threatening violence, in the first place. Actions have consequences. Self defense. You have to assume the worst. I think your instincts would tell you the same. Self preservation mode. Humans at their most lethal. Everything's fair game at that point. Him or me.
  9. A misunderstanding. What I intended to convey was that my understanding is that in Thailand it is acceptable to defend yourself against trespass, not that it was my personal belief. However, I pretty much feel that, either way, if some guy comes to your property with devilry mind, your intervention is quite legitimate. I'm not going to argue the legalities because what would be the point?
  10. I had somebody break a window in my place in a steroid rage. He was off his trolley. Would I had had the length of bamboo stick I keep now, to whack him round the ear at the time. I don't think he would have had a case against me. This isn't nannyville. It's what most Thais would have done IMHO. And it's a very strange invocation not to practice what you preach, or stand up for yourself, or your beliefs. You think the police will?
  11. I believe any trespass is defendable by whatever means comes to hand.
  12. ตีนผี or "dheen pee" I think means a speeding driver, not necessarily one that flees the scene of an accident.
  13. They actually waited for their tests on day 5 or 6, after which they were told they could leave, and they would be contacted if necessary. That's it. Nobody did a runner. It was all media misinformation. Big drama. But here on ASEAN now, it was kangaroo court in full session. Hang 'em! Castration's too good for these bxxxxxxx, etc etc. Now it's rinse and repeat.
  14. At immigration on entry, they probably have access to databases the visa issuing authorities don't. Maybe they don't like the look of the guy, they need to do a customs search, he's not carrying enough funds etc etc. Last line of defense is the entry point. It's face to face.
  15. "Mass flooding late last year and ASF outbreaks have killed millions of pigs in Thailand, especially breeders, resulting in a shortage of live pigs. Compounded by the rising prices of animal feed and medication, pork prices in the domestic market have jumped sharply, affecting both vendors and consumers." He seems to be saying ASF outbreaks have been a contributary factor in the deaths of millions of pigs in Thailand, which surely contradicts the "No ASF here" line.
  16. Seen it. But that's just for gaming. I don't believe that's what they have in mind.
  17. Yes, of course, the conditions could have a major bearing. But the spa I use is always well attended, and it's not unusual to have 5 or 6 people in the sauna at one time. It seems crazy, but I've only heard of one infection, and that was a staff member who never went near it.
  18. They were closed for several months when the general lockdown and curfew was in force, but prior to that and since, they have been open. I've even met off duty cops in one (not as a date, you understand). They're open here in Pattaya and have been for several months. Hotels can't be arsed with the maintenance etc so lock them up. But the public ones are doing great business. Many ethnicities/nationalities are used to having them back home, Finns, Norwegians, Swedes, Russians (who are amongst the friendliest IMHO) etc.
  19. I was wondering, not for a definitive answer, but from casual observance, whether the temperatures in a sauna or steam room are enough to destroy the SARS-COV-2 virus. I spend a lot of time in both, and hot and cold plunge pools. I haven't caught it after 12 months or so, though they were closed for much of that period, when you might think a spa would be an ideal place to do so. Wet surfaces, close contact, enclosed spaces, water vapour - it's most people's idea of hell if trying to avoid the little critters. But, seems they're not very partial to it. I've not seen a spa listed as a hotspot ever, where bars often are. Seems odd somehow. What are other people's experiences?
  20. The Meta. Is this the Matrix in all but name?
