Locals protest against dolomite mine near Thai national park

Dolomite mine? It's a long way from the Dolomites. Useful mineral for water filtration though. -
Confused by US banking system

Hmm maybe. I thought wire transfers were also costly? Anyway, the problem now is the limit his bank puts on transfers. $4,500 pm or $1,500 per day. I can't believe that's it. Maybe for online. This is the Community First Wise partner. The whole thing's a shambles. -
Confused by US banking system
bradiston replied to bradiston's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Seems I jumped the gun. His bank set up a direct debit on my Wise account without any notification or authorisation, and helped themselves to $1.37. So they've charged me an unannounced fee (my friend knows nothing about it), and managed to access my Wise account, set up a DD and take the money! Wise are "looking into it". I cancelled the DD immediately and asked Wise to block the bank from any access to my account. It just beggars belief. BTW, this is CFSB. He already had an account with them. -

Confused by US banking system

He figured it out and did a test transfer. Seems you have to link your US account to CFSB or Evolve. After that I think it's just a normal transfer. Thanks for your help, and everybody else. It means a lot when you can get help on this sometimes difficult forum! -
Confused by US banking system

Wow, that's pure genius! Thanks. I'd never have found that. My routing number begins with 026. My friend's packed it in for the night but I'll try and sort it out with him tomorrow. -
Debate Ramps Up: Is the Thai Senate Still Necessary?
bradiston replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The UK has an upper house, and it's a constitutional monarchy like Thailand, although I hasten to add, that's where the similarity ends. No lèse majesté there. You can say whatever you want about the monarchy. And everybody does if they so care. There is a movement to disband the House of Lords. On the face of it it's even more corrupt than the Thai senate, being partially inherited seats and partially appointed by successive governments. But it somehow does it's job. It doesn't interfere with parliament but does have a say in legislation, in as much as all bills are passed to it for review. If they want the lords can send a bill back with recommendations for revision, but the Commons doesn't have to take any notice. There are many highly respected , highly knowledgeable members who are definitely not corrupt. I think that's what Thailand was aiming for. But, TIT, and it all went pear shaped. A great shame really. Probably 90% of Thailand's problems stem from the position of .... End of transmission. They're at the door. -
Confused by US banking system

Thanks. I don't think that's the problem. Wise isn't a bank,so it wouldn't appear in avdrop down list of same However, it seems there's another online bank that operates alongside, or is part of, Wise, namely the Community Federal Savings Bank. I don't know why my friend has opted to, or has been forced to, use this entity, but it appears that's what he is doing. I don't get it. -
A friend in the US is trying to send me $ from his US bank account. I have a Wise $ account. It's in New York. Is it not possible to simply transfer account to account in the US? I have sent over all the account details provided by Wise. Because Wise isn't a bank it doesn't appear in the drop down list of available banks his bank insists on using. He says he had to create a Wise account. I'm lost. Surely it's a no brainer. Type in account no, routing no etc and that's it, right?

Chinese Couple in Pattaya Busted for Harboring Lions and Luxury Cars
bradiston replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Transporting a roller, a Ferrari and 2 lions completely unnoticed? I suppose in containers. But unloading the lions? Did they have a tamer on hand? What do they feed them on? The picture suggests they're free to roam around. All in all, a totally bizarre story. And not far from where I live. I'm probably lucky to be alivaaaaggggghhh -

What happened to one way Bua Khao? They got as far as Diana and Honey apparently and gave up. -
Well, somebody's got to do it.

I think there's a chronic shortage of properly qualified engineers here. I would assume they go abroad for much higher wages, more professional environment to work in, and much better experience. Looking at most roadworks in Pattaya for instance, it's hard to believe there's a fully qualified engineering mind behind the cracks and holes that appear within months of "completion". Mr Nampichet where are you? Can we please have a facility here in Pattaya such as they have in Bangkok for reporting problems with civic amenities?

Wise foreign currency accounts are opened in the country of that currency, Belgium in the case of their Euro account. So I'm not sure they'd be taxable here unless or until you transferred funds from them to a Thai bank account. I'm not sure I fully understand all the implications of this world wide tax law, so I'm going to spend less than 180 days a year here as an interim solution.

I never meet these people. I don't drink. Don't take drugs. Don't go to bars. Don't go to Bua Khao, or Soi 6. I choose my friends wisely. It's that simple.
