  1. Very possible but never from Phuket.

You are going to have to start all over again. Since you only got a 15 day entry you will not be able to do a conversion at immigration.

The best option is go out for a single entry non-o visa,

In Phuket anyone entering Thailand on a visa exemption extension (15 or 30 days)can apply for a 90 day Non O visa provided they have:

    1. 2 days left on the entry stamp

    2. Money in the bank with a letter from the bank (no more than 7 days old)

    3. Income with Embassy confirmation, good for six months

The money in the bank does not have to be 800,000 on application but it does have to be in the bank for either 2 months for a first time applicant  or 3 months for previous Retirees.

The Non O holder can apply for a Retirement extension in the last 30 days of the Non O.

This is a very common process these days. Dependents of intended retirees must apply for a Non O outside Thailand. e.g. KL or Penang

Immigration policy is 15 days remaining on an entry. What Phuket does is not true for all offices that can do the conversion.

There have been reports of people being told no because the had less than 15 days..

  3. Another new procedure, at least in Phuket, if not anywhere else in Thailand, is if you are successful getting the Non-Immigrant 'O' outside Thailand as a volunteer you must renew the extension every three months. That is the extension is treated like new application (TM7) and you will have to wait at least a month before you know whether it has been granted. Many of these new rules just appearing have been in the oven since late last year but only now are they being put on the kitchen table. The one above has been in force for nearly 8 months and to give an example many long term volunteer groups here providing services to the under privileged and orphans etc are not exempt from this new procedure.

  4. I agree with all the responses so far that question the response you got from the immigration officer as being unheard of are correct. The only time a criminal record is required is when an application is made outside Thailand for an O-A visa.

By the way all the front line officers I know do not make the final decision whether you can get the extension you have applied for. It's the senior officer, usually a captain close by somewhere that the FL officers (Sergeants/Sergeant Majors) pass the application to for final approval. If ever you want to appeal a decision or question what you have been told ask to see the OIC. They can not refuse.

  5. You should try Vientiane for another 2 entry. The worst that can happen is that they only do a single entry.

Taking a bank will help and proof of residence also.

In my recent experience you will almost certainly get another TR60 where ever you go. However the border posts are now ignoring the new TR 60 day visa pasted in the PP and only allowing a 7 day stay on the entry stamp with written comments that 'this person is living in Thailand on a tourist visa'. I have seen at least three people who have experienced this in the last two weeks.

That may may well depend upon nationality, the border crossing used.and a persons overall history of visas and visa exempt entries.

You cannot say it will be true for everybody that has a valid tourist visa.

Quite right. Consistency is not a habit followed by those who apply the rules here.. However the last person I saw who had this experience had only two TR60's ever. Prior to the first she was a new chum to Thailand.

  7. Good idea, I'm all for it, this way it will be easier to "deport" all the undesirables,

scheme artist, thieves and murderers and rug dealers to Phuket on a bus....

... what have you got against carpet salesmen...?!

Gosh, my Hash name is Rug-doctor. Should I be worried?

  8. Pattaya Beach empties as it does every year during low season.

Russian school holidays are starting, you will see them arrive again in the next days ... For these Russians having martial law, military interventions and curfews imposed feels even more like coming home :-)

We will soon see if you are right.rolleyes.gif

Don't forget their currency has been affected by sanctions imposed after the Ukraine crisis.

I wouldn't be surprised if far less come here this year because they don't have the money

A mystery for me is why the Thai/Australian dollar exchange rate remains almost constant regardless of the strife here in Thailand. Very disappointing.

  9. I think you are misreading it. I don't see that it says tourist visas in a Google translate of it.

    Change the Thai visa requirements
Thai immigration authority shall amend entry requirements for immediate re-entry.
According to a publication of the Thai immigration authority, the BIPs are instructed with immediate effect, and exits should be achieved by a continuing stay (so-called visa run) not to approve. Exceptions are therefore possible only for tourism purposes.

As of August this provision shall also apply to arrivals by

They though are calling visa exempt entries visas which is wrong.

With all respect Ubonjoe, we've been here before on this subject and you are correct that a visa exempt entry (on arrival) is not a visa but for ease of description it is just called a 'visa'. Most people I know including Thai immigration officials describe it as a visa. To be pedantic it could have been described as a VEEOA, or how about ....'we're going on a VEEOA run', but how many people would find that easy to pronounce.

  10. Getting the extension based upon having a Thai child at many immigration office will require the child to live with you. Not sure about Phuket.

Getting a work permit might also be a problem in Phuket might also be problem with a non-o visa or extension might not be possible.

You need to check with both offices.

Not having at least joint custody of your child also creates problems.

In Phuket, it is possible for a foreigner to get a 'dependent' extension, provided he has an O visa (without financial obligation i.e. 400,000 baht in the bank) and proof of his relationship (birth certificate) but he must have sole custody of the Thai child. That can be arranged with an agreement between the parents.

Whether the child lives with the mother or father is not a consideration as far as I know and I have not read or heard of any objection for the father to get employment to support the child.

If a foreigner wants to be the custodian of a foreign child he/she must have 500,000 baht in the bank (for one month first application, and three months on subsequent applications. Only one foreign parent of a couple can be a custodian of a child e.g. husband working ('B' visa) and mother with 'Dependent' extension'.

    • To keep it simple could the answer to the OP be given by one and only one person who is recognized an authority on Thai immigration laws, visa or extensions? I've yet to see better answers than UbonJoe. Many responses from well intentioned people are skewed'

    <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

Thank you for sll replies. To be clear, I am not asking about staying more than 90 days - I am asking about leaving Thailand and coming back a couple days later, all before my 30-day extension is up.

Ubonjoe, could you explain your second sentence to me? Will they let me back in if I leave and re-enter this weekend? I am scheduled to fly to and from Cambodia.

    Again, thanks for the help.

"To be clear, I am not asking about staying more than 90 days - I am asking about leaving Thailand and coming back a couple days later, all before my 30-day extension is up."

    To be clear ...

If you only want to stay a total of 90 days from your first entry and you are now into your 30 day extension, forget about the extension. You can go out for a few minutes or a few days and re-enter Thailand with a NEW 30 day permission to stay because you are an American and will be given a 30 day visa exempt entry.

Your original visa will no longer be of any use. Your 30 day extension will be dead and buried, but you'll still be allowed in the country for 30 more days just by crossing back into Thailand with an American passport. No need to fly in. By air or by land, you'll get 30 more days.

So if you were here for 60 days, got a 30 day extension and now you are in (for example) the 70th day but want to go out and come back in for 20 more days ... just go and come back. No worries. They'll give you, not your remaining days on the extension, but a whole new 30 days ... free of charge.

  11. Ignore the rest ... this forum is the best and most accurate source for Thai visa information ... HANDS DOWN.

Absolutely - even better and more than accurate than Thai Immigration themselves more often than not!!smile.png

True, and without contradiction until sadly you meet a Thai Immigration Officer who has the last word. Say what you like about the accuracy of the source but he, the Thai officer, has the last word right or wrong and there's no redress.

  12. He's not calling for peace and unity - he is questioning and undermining the rule of law.

This should not come as a surprise to anyone, he regards himself to be above the law, he established a political party to secure his position above the law and he now wants the actions of that party when in government to be above the law.

The man is a convicted criminal on the lam.

What is he doing being allowed to speak to the nation of TV?

It amazes me that your kind seem to know all the details of his crimes. Where do you get the inside information from to make such damning statements and if you have the low down on Thaksin why haven't you gone to the police? And if you're a farang it's even more surprising that you dare to get involved in matters none of your concern.

  13. You will need 15 days remaining on your entry to do it. I have heard of some offices doing them with only 10 days.

You will do an income affidavit at the embassy, Appointments are mandatory. Info here: http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/service.html

It can be done in Phuket with only two days remaining on the entry. As for the TM6 card only one side with the bar code or id number needs to be copied but sometimes the entry stamp is on the reverse side and that then needs to be copied.

  14. I can't comment on overall numbers re Phuket or Pattaya but I do see a big demand for Retirement extensions in Phuket and I believe it's the Baby Boomers (born 1945-1955) coming here. For example the Phuket Immigration Office opens at 8.30am, now closes at 10.30am (for applications) reopens at 1PM and closes at 2pm or 3.30pm, depending on the number of people waiting to be seen. I haven't seen anything like it for the past three years. It would be interesting to know if this is being repeated elsewhere in Thailand.
