  1. Just a heads-up—Kasikorn Bank (K-Bank) has started charging ฿100–฿150 per incoming international transfer. Most transactions have come via BahtNet, not SWIFT, and they’re still charging this fee per transaction. The amount isn’t massive, but it adds up quickly if you’re receiving small and frequent payments, as many freelancers or remote workers do. Receiving larger lump sums is one option, but not always feasible or ideal. I’ve looked into alternatives, but many Thai banks—especially smaller ones—don’t have SWIFT codes or simply don’t support international payments at all. Anyone here using: * A Thai bank with lower fees for BahtNet or international transfers? * Fintech platforms like Wise, Revolut, or Payoneer to sidestep this? * A foreign bank account or digital wallet that converts and forwards money to Thailand with fewer fees? Would love to hear what’s worked for others dealing with similar payment structures. Cheers.
  2. Very nice where is that in Chiang Mai? I’ve never found anything that cheap, not even at Kad Muang Mai. Coconuts you grate yourself have shot up used to be 30 baht, now 50 or more. A lot of the usual coconut scraper shops don’t even bother selling freshly scraped coconut anymore. TGF mentioned somtam prices going up too. And you’re absolutely right about the peppers the ones grown in poly tunnels by the hill tribes go off fast. Years ago I used to go hiking with a group and farmers would offer free peppers and veg. I was amazed people would just descend and clear it all out in minutes. Can’t say much about the taste or freshness I didn’t usually take any. I get mine from Rimping or Tops most of the time.
  3. Thanks a lot for that — really helpful to see all the options side by side. Appreciate you taking the time to pull those together, especially with the links and price points. Much appreciated
  4. Thanks so much for sharing — that’s genuinely helpful. Really appreciate the adjusted recipe and the breakdown, it’s all very clear and useful. Very kind of you to take the time, much appreciated!
  5. Are bread machines available in Thailand? I’m specifically looking for something similar to the Panasonic model I use in the UK, but I haven’t had any luck finding one here. Been to a few shops and searched a bit but no dice.
  6. Bit of a side-track from the main thread — sorry for the thread f 😞 — but I don’t suppose anyone here has a reliable cookie recipe using almond flour or some other less-damaging flour? Ideally looking for something low in sugar or at least on the healthier side, but still tastes good enough to actually want to eat. Would be great if it’s not full of weird ingredients or protein powder etc. Just a solid, simple recipe that works.
  7. Thank you very much 🙂from THailand?
  8. Ta, very useful. So just to confirm — a lease with the owner's house registration and ID is enough, right?
  9. Current passport expires in 2029. I plan to return to the UK next year. I’m renewing now because I’ve run out of pages — many countries require at least two empty pages for entry stamps and visas, and I’d like to travel a bit more before heading back.
  10. Hi all, A few questions, especially for anyone who’s done this recently: 1. Will they take my old passport during processing, or can I keep it while waiting for the new one? 2. I’m currently on a 60-day visa exemption + 30-day extension (so a 90-day stay overall). – Is this visa status enough to apply for a passport renewal? – Has anyone done it with just a 60+30 setup? 3. How do I prove residency in Thailand for the passport application? – Are the immigration entry and extension stamps enough? – Or do I need to get a residency confirmation letter from immigration? Appreciate any first-hand experiences or recent info. Thanks!
  11. Do you have contact details for this service? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
  12. Thanks for the detailed reply. Yes, my charger cable is USB-C, and it connects to a regular adapter (I’ll double-check the voltage range). Makes sense to just get a cheap USB charger in Panama to be safe — especially if it avoids any risk to the phone. Appreciate the tip!
  13. Thanks. Just to clarify: 1. I’m thinking of buying a travel adapter in Thailand — is that okay, or better to wait till Panama? 2. Planning to carry a chargeable power bank — will there be any issues taking it through Chiang Mai Airport? Appreciate any tips from anyone who’s done a similar route.
  14. Immigration problems 😐 Strong baht Security issues/Kidnapping incidents BIB
  15. Hi all, I’m currently in Thailand and planning a trip to Panama. My phone charger says "Input: 230V, 50Hz" only. Panama uses 110V, 60Hz. Can I use this charger safely in Panama with just a plug adapter? Or do I need a step-up transformer? Anyone with experience using Thai appliances or chargers in Panama (or other 110V countries) — I’d really appreciate your advice. Thanks!
  16. Hi everyone, Does anyone know where I can buy Royal Dansk Danish Butter Cookies (https://www.royal-dansk.com/) here in Thailand? I’m looking for the classic ones in the blue tin — ideally somewhere in Chiang Mai, but Bangkok or online options are fine too. I’ve checked a few local supermarkets but no luck so far. Would appreciate any tips on which stores usually stock them or any reliable Thai online shops that deliver. Failing that — has anyone tried making a DIY version at home that comes close? Would love to hear if it’s worth the effort or just a disaster. Thanks in advance!
  17. Hi all, I’m looking to buy a 2TB external hard drive, preferably an SSD, to use with my MacBook for Time Machine backups. Any suggestions on where to buy one—online or in-store in Thailand—would be really appreciated. Looking for something reliable at a decent price. Thanks in advance!
  18. What's a good place to buy a 1-2 TB external HDD (preferably SSD) for MacBook backups? Looking for something reliable and decently priced. Recommendations for stores or online options ?. Thanks 🙂
  19. Replaced all my Otto stuff with Tefal ages ago—still going strong, unlike the Ottos I had to chuck out constantly. Thinking of giving this a shot, thanks a lot.
  20. Hi everyone, I’ve been stuck in a draining, dysfunctional relationship for almost 13 years, and I don’t know how to get out without feeling guilty—mainly because of the 14 dogs we live with. The truth is, I’m the only one who actually cares for them. I cook for them, clean up after them, prep their food daily, and do all the real work. She just lives in the same space. This partner of mine is lazy, uneducated, irresponsible with money, and emotionally checked out. I’ve sponsored multiple things over the years—guesthouses, her spending, daily expenses—and she’s managed to run everything into the ground. She hoards clothes, handbags, and dogs while expecting me to keep everything afloat. The place is filthy, rat-infested, chaotic—and I’ve tolerated it far too long. While I’m at home scrubbing floors and feeding dogs, she’s out with her friends 8 to 10 hours a day—BBQs, parties, hikes, shopping—then comes home late. When she is home, she’s glued to her phone, scrolling YouTube and Facebook while the TV blasts Thai soap operas in the background. It’s mind-numbing. She contributes nothing meaningful and expects everything. There’s no real communication. When I’m sick, she doesn’t even notice—no help, no care, nothing. But if *she* needs something? I’m expected to drop everything and pay, fix, or sort it. I know I sound like a real mug—and that’s probably because I am. I’ve been holding this mess together out of guilt and attachment to the dogs. Now that I’ve finally refused to sponsor her anymore, she’s suddenly “looking for jobs”—or at least pretending to. The reality is, she’s extremely unlikely to get anything. She doesn’t even have the most basic qualifications, and even a waitress job is a long shot. And even if she does land something, it’s not going to sustain her lifestyle of parties, outings, and hoarding. I know this is a self-created trap. I could walk away and have a more peaceful life elsewhere, but the dogs keep me rooted here. Has anyone else gone through something similar? How do you leave a situation like this without abandoning the animals? How do you stop being the caretaker for someone who offers nothing in return? Any insights or hard-earned advice would really help. Thanks in advance.
