  1. Tailor on Ten.

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

This is the correct answer. Tailor On Ten is leaps and bounds above every other tailor in BKK.

I shudder to think about the workmanship and quality of materials most of you guys are getting at these other places. I guess chinese poly blends are all the rage for the Thai Visa brigade. :P

  2. If you have 8 months left on your work permit you can just go to immigration and get an extension for 8 months. That what I did. It costs 1900 baht

The issue is that extensive paperwork is needed, and for non-teachers, taxes paid for a minium salary of Bt 50,000.

Because not everyone is able to meet the above requirement, they have to go get multi-entry non-imm 'B' visa.

Not a teacher and I make over 50k. Got all my paperwork sorted out too.

Are you saying I can just extend my Single Non-B 3month Visa inside Thailand? If so, I am tempted to just do that. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind a short trip to a nearby country. Just curious as to what my options are. Penang seems to be the favorite choice.

  3. 48,000 a month? easy.

i rent a 40sqm condo in central BKK with pool/gym, hell it even has a bathtub and kitchen. 5min walk to MRT and even less for restaurants/bars/shopping mall/market etc

cost? 8,000 a month. electricity and water are at government rates, so my bills are about 10,000 baht a month all in (rent/water/elec/internet).

That leaves 40k for everything else.. childs play

  4. i've lived off 30k a month. you can do okay on it if you eat thai food and have some flexibility and initiative.

if you are a fat old sexpat set in your old ways, then yeah, not possible.

I make a lot more than 30k a month these days but I still really only spend about 30-40k a month (single, no family)

  5. Success by definition is achieving a goal or purpose. Expats are not a cohesive collection of people, they are individuals with different goals in life.

So i consider success to be subjective to the individual, and relative for those who derive their idea of success against their peers.

  6. You can get as many 30 day extensions as you want but you can only get one per entry. You have to leave and re-enter to get another one.

Getting any visa in Singapore can be difficult.

They have denied a tourist visa because a person had just left here.

A ED visa at the moment there is not possible unless are attending a school full time. Language studies wound not allow for one.

I got a non-b visa in Singapore last month and found the process and staff to be very welcoming and easy to work with. No difficulties at all.

  7. big reason? crime.

my mate was in PH for business last year. took a taxi and got jumped by some guys with guns. they made him take out all his money from ATM, drove him into the middle of nowhere, made him strip naked, then drove off.

he had to walk for 2hours butt naked until he could reach a road and find someone who could help them. this was like the 2nd or 3rd day he had arrived.

they even have armed guards at shopping malls in PH

i dont think anywhere else in SEA is as bad.

  8. most foreigners in bkk will be banging a prostitute

maybe just you and your 'llk'

not everyone in bkk is an aging sexpat.

Ilk? Yes, we will all be banging prostitutes on New Year's eve! LOL!

He meant a "Gig - Gik - Geeg" LINK here, http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/141908-the-tap-sap-gig-was-in-the-headlines-recently/?p=1537128#3585;&fromsearch=1

    As Mod. -Soundman- stated there,

""A กิ๊ก is best described (from a recent article in one of the Thai teenage weekly magazines, "Star" I believe) as:

"Not a one night stand, not boyfriend and girlfriend, but a relationship in between with no strings attached."" rolleyes.gif

ilk = a type of people or things similar to those already referred to.

  9. It's all about "perceived nationality". And this is racism.

If they think you're thai you'll pay thai price. If not, you'll have to provide evidence.

"Use of rosy lenses will damage your brains (if any)"

news for ya pal, thai is not a race for a start and any asian tour groups pay farang prices.

news for ya. you are wrong.

dual pricing is based on race / perceived race

    Example...

I went to Koh Samed with a philipino girl I was seeing at the time. I had to pay inflated farang price for entry while she kept her mouth shut and paid thai price, no questions asked.

  10. Nick was a friend of mine. Terrible what happened to him.

    Really nice guy.

    What did happen to him?

    Can you tell?

I have no idea what happened. I wasn't there at the time. He was a fairly wild guy and loved to party, but always extremely friendly. He had been around Thailand a while. I doubt he just drowned after a quiet booze session with his family, but who knows.

  11. There are subtle differences in the cutting and finishing style between most countries. London, Milan and New York are traditionally different ( and Bangkok! ). Be careful when interpreting other peoples preferences and well-meaning recommendations. There are few short cuts to finding a good tailor who will match your sartorial aspirations. You have to do the leg work. Try to talk to the tailor and not only the store salesman.

    Good luck with that....

99% of the 'tailors' in Bangkok are not tailors. They are merely fabric salesmen. They sell you the fabric (typically cheap polyester trash) and take your measurements, then send it off to a Thai sweatshop down a dinky old Soi to do all the work. There is no accountability for quality or consistency, as they will use multiple people and places.

If you are after quality at a price that that is still very reasonable, then there is only one tailor you should even consider, and that is Tailor On Ten.

    Why?

-No dodgy Indian guys trying to hard-sell you and no need for negotiations. All their prices are fixed. The issue with a lot of these Indian places is that they pay commissions out to hotel concierges or tuktuk drivers. Typically, these commissions will be around 40% of the cost. That is 40% of the cost of your suit that is NOT going into the fabric or labor.

    - Quality is leaps and bounds above the competition, it isn't even comparable. They do all their tailoring "yes they actually MAKE your clothes" at their shop. They will even take you out-back so you can watch the tailors work and have direct access to the person who is actually making your clothes. Try asking for the same at all the other places suggested here. The only other one i know who does it is Narin, and he charges 3x as much as Tailor On Ten and takes 5x as long.

    - Service. They have the most pimped out shop in Bangkok. It is an old Thai house that has been converted. You get your own private changing room. The staff are western and Thai, not indian (nothing against our indian friends here). It is a completely different experience.

    Check out their website www.tailoronten.com

If you want to go there, it is a bit difficult to find. It is right down the end of Soi 8, Sukhumvit. Maybe 10 or 15min walking distance from Sukhumvit Road. These guys are so good at what they do, they don't even need walk-in traffic for their business...
