Well, maybe there are some wats at a four-star hotel. With a happy meal. Seriously, meditation is giving up creature comforts, while opening the mind. (Simplistic, I know.) And, you may want to ask these people what it is they expected.

I first turned on to Buddhism when I read the story of the Buddha's life, which included his journey to spiritual enlightenment. I'm also familiar with biographies of many spiritually enlightened beings, including Ramakrisna and Milarepa. Sure, there are challenges for those on a spiritual quest, but it's also a process. They're not required to sit still for 11 hours in lotus position on their first day. More often than not, real spiritual meditation takes place outside of temples/houses, and in natural surroundings. I'm referring to real spiritual insights, not simply physically sitting still for many hours, looking serious - which orthodox Buddhists are adept at. Meditation is, among other things, aimed at gaining spiritual enlightenment. It is not designed for punishment or discomfort (mental or physical).

Ramakrisna once said: "See those monkeys sitting on top of that temple wall? They're all still and quiet with serious countenances, arms folded in their laps. People smile wisely, and say they're meditating. They're not. They're sitting there waiting for bits of food, and at first sight, off they rush to be the first to grab it.

I've found Thais to be fantastic hosts on almost every occasion for me personally.

They have bend over backwards to accommodate me in ways they really didn't need to.

Thanks for stating the obvious. It's like someone saying they saw a crooked cop accepting a bribe - someone like Metapod would pipe up and say; 'How can that be?! I know many cops who aren't corrupt.'

You posted your opinion and experiences and I posted mine. I guess you just wanted a circle-jerk rather than a proper discussion on hospitality in the country.

I'm not the one making sweeping generalizations like a moron, that is you.

  2. Scar, thanks for the honest and open posts on this topic. Takes a lot to write so openly on such things. Some of your knockers here wouldn't dare to while they live in denial and really probably believe their wives/gfs are with them for themselves and not the contents of the wallet/bank account.

Thanks pal. I've enjoyed your input....

You are just as delusional as he is. He is a 50+ old man dating a former prostitute 20+ years younger. Then has the gall to claim it isn't a relationship built around financial disparity and support. I bet he even pays her money every month.

Then he tries to be tell (a guy in his 20s) that girls my age think its perfectly fine to date old men like him? lol. it is like he is living in a completely different universe to the real world. sady, a universe many older foreigners find themselves inhabiting while in Thailand.

  3. got to laugh at these guys who are 50+ and think a 20 year age range isn't a big deal.

    you are all delusional.

I could ask any girl my age or a little older if they would want to be in a relationship with a guy that old and they will all say "fuc_k NO"

unless you look like george clooney, or you present an immense financial disparity, where they can benefit. Otherwise, they will find the idea revolting and their friends would make fun of them about it.

50/30 = financial based relationship in most cases considering there are not to many george clooneys running around....

not going to judge you, just giving the honest truth about it. if she is happy and you are happy, then i don't really give a fuc_k what you do. just don't delude yourself about it.

    Agree.100%..

Don't remember a lot of these girls running around with older farangs 25 years ago..Infact there were very few farangs around then and alot of the farangs were quite young!.seems a retirement /supply/poverty/ issarn scenario today.

And don't delude yourself of what others think..Thai or farang..

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

    The demographics were far different,

Was there a BTS and an MRT?

How many 30 year olds had cars back then?

    Fact: No matter your age,

if you look good, (not fat and unkempt) dont act like their parents,

can handle younger girls in bed, and in treat them well, both privately, and in public, they will be interested,

it's their nature, and if they are attracted, you know it, you also know it, if they aren't.

    or, maybe you wouldn't.

Being with younger women is nothing new to many of us.

you asked the wrong girls, period.

you are an old delusional man. you can only get a younger girl because you are in a significantly poorer country (Thailand). You know that and that is why you are here.

I asked the wrong girls? lol. The only girls who are my age and would show any interest in you are either hookers, or poor and uneducated.

  5. Update - I think I'm going to call it quits with the teacher.

    1) She is overly obsessed with maintaining her skin white, to the point she only walks outside if covers can be found.

    2) She has some kind of disorder that makes her sweat in buckets when she is hot. I can't accept this. She won't see a doctor about it.

    3) I love going to the gym and staying in shape. She sees no reason to maintain herself, and at 31 and already larger, its only going to get worse. I believe going to a gym regularly shows respect for your partner.

    4) The sex. She is happy with standard sex….I don't have the patience to persuade, teach….last one was 1 year before she would even consider a toy.

    5) I have no idea where her money goes but seeing her place, she's living like some third world rat. I always keep my place clean and tidy. Her place is a complete disaster; clothes piled, garbage in corners; completely disgusting. I could never live like that.

    6) She looks great but has no desire to look or dress sexy. I don't mean whorish but small, tight jean shorts or a tight skirt are just out of the question. Its just tiring.

Done…..Also, I don't think I can stop cold turkey with the bargirls as I slipped up last night with 1 from Spanky's. And it was great sex; way better than with the good girl.

I am probably doomed to hell living here...

Just read this after my last post...

So now you're seeing the catch 22 of dating good girls here: they're boring and have little sex appeal. The ones that are willing to date foreigners definitely are. Heck, the reason they choose to date foreigners is probably b/c Thai guys aren't interested in them.

Sadly, after three years here, I'd say the sexy, fun, attractive women that are drawn to foreigners usually have some kind of baggage. If you're young and/or have a lot going for ya, then it shouldn't be that difficult to meet an attractive level-headed girl. But even then, I suspect you'll eventually find she's immature in some way that seems unbearable.

there is no such thing as "good girls" . the misconception made by inadequate men who have very little real world experience with women is hilarious.

I guess if your only interaction with the opposite sex is hookers, and girls from the third world half your age it makes sense to you...

  6. I'm also in my 20s and unlike the TS, I have spent years in Thailand and met numerous girls from different walks of life.

The guy is 100% clueless and is either going to get hurt, or hurt her.

    Here are the red flags..

    1) No experience with Thailand, Thai girls, Thai language. Nothing wrong with this however...

    2) TS speaks like he knows what he is talking about and is trying to give others advice.... Naivety + False Confidence = Mistakes

    3) Nothing wrong with mistakes... If you can learn from them. Hence someone is going to get hurt. You or her. At 21 you are not looking to settle down and have kids and get married. On the chance that you are, do you really want to rush into it with a girl from another country and culture and language who you do not know (I don't care if you spent 3 weeks with her, you don't know someone in 3 weeks). Which brings me to what you will say in response to this and the next red flag.

    4) "but we talked for 6months on the internet" Guess what? Girls talk to A LOT of guys on the internet. I can bet you everything I own she is chatting to a minimum of 5 different guys just like you. Girls like to have options. They only discard options when you are "locked in" and you haven't made that commitment. You don't even live in the same side of the world or speak the same language, and you haven't broached the topic of marriage.

    5) Where did you meet her online? You said she just appeared on your fb list? Sounds like nonsense to me. Either you talk to so many thai girls you forget where you met them (meaning making the move with a girl like this for long term relationship is a bad move), or maybe you met her somewhere you do not want to disclose here. I'm going to guess you met her on a thai dating website. Something like thafriendly, dia, tagged, thaicupid, etc etc. List goes on.

I'm speaking purely out of experience here too. I was in Thailand when I was 21 too. I made similar mistakes. I've met girls and their family off the internet. I didn't speak Thai well back then. I didn't know Thailand well. I THOUGHT i knew more than I actually did. I'm still in my 20s and I have taken that experience and learned from it. The best thing you can do now is 2 things.

    1) Forget that you know anything and spend a lot more time reading forums, books, whatever, and take it all in with an open mind and outlook on life.

    2) Forget any feelings you have for this girl and objectively consider these questions for 1min. "Do I want to get married and started a family?" and "Where do I see myself in 5 years, 10 years, and 20 years time?" and "What do I want out of life"

Now think about that girl and if marrying her fits into your life goals and plans.

  7. If him serve four your country in the war why he most stay on the streets??And fore 27000b you think he can stay here in Thailand??No you need at last 50000b a mounth if you no hawe a home ore a wife here. But if you are putting up 800b fore him then ok fore him to stay. Why help him when him can make himself,Why him stay on the streets your newer think of that

50,000 baht? You are so wrong it isn't funny.

You can't even speak English. You talk like a third world prostitute. "Why him stay"

Guessing you can't live without 50,000 baht because you spend a lot of time at Soi Cowboy, Bangla Road, or Pattaya.....

  8. Suthep spurns talks with government

Ok, I think that even Suthep knows the way out of this ridiculous crisis.

Since he already lost, let him go to prison, and everything goes back to normal. Perfect smile.png

(What a very poor English, by the way. He should educate himself a bit)

    Sent from my iPhone...

I bet he speaks more English than you speak Thai.

Maybe you are the one who needs an education?

    "no hab"

  9. I met a gorgeous burmese girl in Yangoon working at a restaurant. She was studying engineering at university and her english was ok.

I agree with what someone else said earlier about burmese people being generally more inquisitive and open to learning. I think thais are happy being thai and doing things their way. The burmese people I have met have shown a lot of interest in learning english and learning about other cultures.

  10. And what about my snake? Is it dangerous? It still lives with us I meet it every 2 - 3 day.

    attachicon.gifSAM_0025.JPG

if a snake looked at me like that ,it would be the end of that snake and i would have a nice new belt ......

Or...... Maybe consider growing a set and educating yourself on the local flora and fauna? Rather than kill a harmless snake out of cowardice and ignorance.

its not "harmless" you fool ,it just may not be posionous but a snake bite still needs medical treatment

let it play in the garden with you and your kids

i would kill an angry snake 100 times out of 100

but you in your vast intelligence and giant testicles would be going to ER to seek treatment for a snake bite cheesy.gif

The only fool here is yourself. You can kill it off like a coward, sure. Just means the food source will still be there, and the potential for a deadly snake to move in rises...

    Copperhead racer.

Really cool snakes and nothing to worry about. They are harmless

They use these snakes a lot at snake shows as they can be quite fiesty if cornered and strike VERY fast. They also flex out their neck and body and open their mouths to look more intimidating, just like in your photo.

I had one of these chase me across a road outside Khon Kaen. Fun little guys. They can actually grow pretty big though.

Let him live around your place and he will take care of all the nasty mice and rats. smile.png

  13. How much are rents around that way, seems ok

There's a subway station around there now or not?

    Lad Phrao MRT Station.

I have a really nice one room. for 5000 baht/Month. if you need bigger space and want to live really good for 10000 Baht/Month you get a nice apartment here smile.png

Can you post pics of your 5k room? Just curious what you get for that price.

Think Away the TV, watches and all the small stuff. You see the fridge, bed, curtains, and furniture. notice the floor too. I'm living small but good life. my apartment before was really harsh, next to a main road, traffic all night, ants all over the place if i dropped a micro piece of sugar or food on the floor, noisy air-con. super-small room. hopefully my next apartment, or the one after that will be as nice as this one but bigger. I don't want to pay more than 10.000 Baht/Month.

Nothing wrong with that place. Looks pretty good for 5k. I've seen a lot worse.
