  1. Thanks for that info 7by7. Yes, I am a British citizen. We want to go to Barcelona fist for a week, to a friends villa. Then returning to England. A few weeks later I want to take her to Paris on the Eurostar. After that weekend trips to Bruges, Amsterdam and where ever takes out fancy. If the ski season starts early maybe even the Alps. My wife is desperate to see snow! So I guess the Spanish Embassy will be where we need to get her Shengen visa as that's the first place on out itinerary.

Should we apply for the shengen visa before or after we apply for her UK visa? I have heard the Shengen visa can take a long time to get.

We will also have our daughter with us but she now has a UK passport so I assume no issues there.

  2. I am in the process of gathering info and preparing all the necessary to get my Thai wife (married in Thailand) a UK tourist Visa. All being well that should be done and dusted by mid August. Whilst in the UK, it’d be great if we could also visit mainland Europe; France, Spain, Belgium and Holland in particular. I understand she will require a Schengen visa. As I’m at busting point with visa research, can anybody give me a quick answer as to whether this is something we can do easily? Any advice will be welcome.

    Thanks

  3. I recently saw a TV documentary in the UK made by a well known UK TV chef, Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall, that opened my eyes. He discovered the huge trade in Thailand in what is termed "trash fish". Mostly illegally caught in nature reserves by unscrupulous trawler owners often using slave labour; trash fish is small juvenile creatures. The catch is made into feed by big companies like CP Foods to feed farmed shrimp. The end product is sold to British,European and American supermarkets as king prawns. Corruption from start to finish. Well done Greenpeace.

Good article in the Sunday Times.

  4. " Clubbed on his helmetted head ". LOL

What kind of writing style is this?

In the 20 years staying in Thailand, i have NEVER seen an Indian (or similar nationality...) wearing a helmet on the motorbike. Always have been wondering WHY. And i also have NEVER seen police fine them for that.... whistling.gif

Ahhhh, but if they were wearing a helmet how would you know they were Indian (or similar nationality)?

  5. Am I reading this right ? They carried out this robbery from the back of a police motorcycle !!!

Does this mean that the next time I see a blue flashing light in my rear view mirror it might not be the police racing to the scene of a robbery but instead could in fact be them racing from the scene of a robbery....do I still have to give way if this is the case ? huh.png

Either or, 200 baht will sort it out! clap2.gif

I am shocked deeply, by the thought that outside of LoS, readers can find that the Royal Thai Police could have had, among it's ranks, extortionists. What next? A BiB being found to have murdered someone? This, people, is completely wrong. I mean we all hold the BiB up to our children and give them a goal in life.. Whatever will we do now.. I suppose next, some politicians son, who happens to be a police officer - maybe a Sergeant, will be found to have killed someone in a bar because the victim pointed his foot at him.

Ahhhh Thailand. Where is the minister of culture standing on this?

We all know it was suicide

  6. I don't see what the big problem is. Spread the load between two (or more) airports. As a former resident of London where we 5 airports; Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton and City (6 if you count London Southend (only joking)) three of those as big as swampy, but we have good links both road (M25/M4/M3/M23/M1/M11 etc) and rail between these airports. Bangkok has a similar population to London. Get the long neglected BTS link finished between Swampy and DM, tart DM up a bit then everybody's happy. But putting in place a good rail link will be the key to the success of this scheme. Bangkok traffic is too congested to rely on road link be they bus or taxi. biggrin.png

  7. How will they deal with Cambodian buses having the wheel on the other side and who will be driving them?

Wonder which bus company paid for the rights

Personally i wouldn't trust Thai's or Cambodians driving on the wrong side ( which ever side that is)

so they will need to change buses and drivers at the border

Can't see the difference myself. Most Thai drivers I see are hurtling towards me on the wrong side of the road. But fortunately they flash their lights so that makes it OK.

  8. Cut the BS. I bought the good old wired antennae. Hooked it up to my LED TV.

I'm not paying GMM for a box to watch a football tournament. But then again I believe that they've got the NFL!!! hmmmmm.

Yeah me too. I watched the France England game on terrestrial TV with commentary from BBC radio 5 live. OK the sync was a bit out but I survived the experience and at least not held to ransom by True. Their product is way over priced.

  9. How did the first 2000 units fail the checks when tpday they are delivering the first 105 units? I hope there is a maths program on the tablet as they need to recalculate the delivery schedule. I have just informed my daughter she is likely to get hers when she is 87. I have still never worked out why such a valuable project was not given to a Thai company.

I hope these tablets are coming with a nice sturdy case. My kids would have destroyed our ipad 10 times over already had it not been for the case. I guess the young school kids will never drop them though will they.

And they certainly won't sell them like they do their school books!
