20,000 sacks... can some poor TV farmer please translate that into baht?
Certainly ... it's now worth NIL Baht, because it's unsaleable, even to the Middle-east or Africa, and then there's the cost of transporting/disposing of it, so it actually has negative-value.
Way to go ... PTP and the Great Thinker !
This is what happens when politicians think they can out wit the market

I think it best to avoid Thai rice for a while. Maybe the next few years, in fact.
We're lucky enough to get all or rice straight off the family farm.

I can see Yingluck popping down to her favourite travel agent for a one-way ticket to Dubai very soon. Family reunion time!

Sitting at the back of my home enjoying a coffee in the shade, I spot a small bird flying around and settling on the fence. But just the one. I live in the far NE of Thailand on the edge of town close to a big lake, surrounded by farmland and trees. Yet hardly a bird in the sky and none in the trees. Where did the all go?

Guys! When you travel in Thailand " keep off the roads " and start using the " Trains " so much safer and cheaper! and most of the time much quicker than using a bus!!!
I have been living in Thailand for 3 years now and with me it's " Walk & Train " ....easy!
You have clearly not been keeping up to date with Thai Railways frequent derailment club. IMHO the only safe way to travel in Thailand is to fly. Even that involves a drive to and from Bangkok airports.

It seems that the safest way to travel in Thailand is to walk,
just as long as you DONT try and cross the road!
I thought all buses now where supposed to be fitted with
safety belts, that would have saved some lives for sure,
until these transport companies can be sued for a fair
amount for loss of life, not the few 1000's of bhat that
is the norm now, nothing will change,as it cheaper for
them to risk passengers lives than take responsibility.
RIP for those that lost there lives, just hope those responsible
receive what is due to them.
regards Worgeordie
Walking is out of the question too due to ubiquitous skanky soi dogs.
Even if buses were fitted with seat belts I'm sure they would command the same respect as straps on crash helmets.

Someone fell asleep at the wheel again ...
How many of these accidents have to happen before they learn ?
They will never learn while the Thai/Buddhist belief system tells them these accidents are preordained and cannot be avoided. Better education might be the answer. A long road to travel there.
RIP the unfortunate soles of yet another avoidable tragedy.

please excuse my mirth...
"a journalist from Hertford, England"
“ not aware of any other problems faced by British tourists regarding jet-skis"
Yeah, but he'll know exactly how many cats get rescued from trees every year in Hertfordshire.

Why is insurance not included in the rental? Full coverage, how much more could it cost?
It probably is insured. This way they get £4,000 cash too. Not bad for a days work in Thailand.

Better than a drug taker that's for sureWow , so many stupid comment one more time , I will start to believe this Thai visa blog is made for frustrated foreigners who have no other option than bashing day after day . For Christ sake , this is pot .... I prefer to see a guy like this than a fat European or Yankee totally drunk walking in pattaya walking street . I am so ashame about some people here but not those you are bashing about. Do you really think to be better than anyone else ????
I disagree 100%......unless of course the drug is Ice or Crack or Yaba or some dangerous crap like that...... as for just weed, I would take a mellow, non-dangerous stoner over the loser alcoholic scumbags I see virtually every night walking around Pattaya and starting fights and being loud and obnoxious. Alcohol turns a lot of people into instant a-holes.
Agree, the worst thing you are likely to get off someone smoking puff or taking LSD or E is a nasty hug. Alcohol, we all know that can make even the most mild mannered people grow horns and a tail!

Take a chill pill Mr Angry, it's you who is coming across as frustrated. This man has created a look for himself that sets him apart from your average sexpat. Then is stupid enough to be carrying ganja when the BiB are out looking for tea Money. Case closed. If u can't do the time don't do the crime.

Putting it in a shipping container. That's a brilliant idea. Keep it locked and tell em it's farm machinery and you will only pay 3% import duty and 7% sales tax.
And keep fingers crossed those pesky kids at import office don't open the container to take a look at contents

Perhaps before DTAC kicks off this service they could kick out the door forcibly with a boot up the arse the IDIOT who designed their web site with the ridiculous hard to read fonts! Almost built to drive people to other service companies. Just saying.
Couldn't agree more. Their website is a mess. But then so are most Thai websites.

AC is good and there is a good food courtWhy the Airport?
Not that these poor folks could afford to eat in the Airport! Well, at least not until the government pay then for their rice.

I used to get people flashing their headlights at me in very poor conditions of visibility in the UK many moons ago, because I had turned my lights on. This is done to be seen, not to see, and as such is deemed unnecessary by the average Thai. Driving with sidelights is equally useless but they started mounting these flashing LED lights a few years ago, so go and think about that one.
I nearly had a collision with a police car without lights last year, and have seen police cars with defective lights a few times.
Probably wouldn't get flashed in UK now for lighting up too early. Standard practice to use dipped headlamps as soon as visibility reduces. Side lights are just for parking. Will be great is the folk of LOS adopt same policy soon.

I'm sure this topic has been covered before, but I feel the need to vent my spleen. After a couple of scary incidents recently with unseen vehicles while driving around dusk. I am at a loss to understand the psyche of Thais and switching on vehicle lights when the sun goes down. They appear very reluctant to switch lights on until it is completely dark. Perhaps putting lights on too soon will be seen as an admission of failure, thus causing loss of face? And we all know how serious that would be. Then when they do put lights on they put fog lights on too. Why? I have never seen fog here. A bit of early morning mist on the rare occasions I driving at dawn. Maybe it's to big-up their already huge pickup trucks? Then, to compound the stupidity they want to keep lights on constant full beam and only reluctantly dip them.
OK, spleen vented. Hope this rant doesn't come across as Thai bashing, certainly not intended that way.

" after they had been assured by the government that they would be paid for their pledged rice."
Wonder if they've heard that before?
The government also promised the cheque was in the post, they would still respect the protesters in the morning and not to cum in their mouth!

Where I live the are just now planting a new crop of rice while these farmers and protesting who planting the rice? No wonder their poor.
In my wife's village, which is 100% red shirt, most have not been paid and have no money to buy supplies for a new crop. Many owe money to illegal money lenders and are in dire straights.
Same for my wife's family. The whole village is in financial dire straights. Nobody there has any money. But STILL they vote for the Shinawatra clan. In the Sunday election a couple of weeks ago my wife was intimidated into voting. She said there would be "problems" if she didn't go back to the village to cast her vote.

Same same. I use the wire rack out of our Otto flying saucer oven to lift pans a few cm above the fierce heat.

Just put some money in a Thai bank. Easy.
Yes, find a cheap exchange service. Still pay charges and have to allow 4 days to get money

Driving lessons in Thailand. That's a new one on me. Never heard of anyone taking lessons up here is the boonies. Here is Isaan they ride a motorbike from about 10 years old then graduate to a 3 litre turbo charged pickup without the merest hint if a lesson.
