  1. Nice to drive my Nissan morning and night with the heater on. Lovely.

You have a heater in car? Must be import, Thai cars don't have it.

Don't know where you are getting your info but my Honda Civic does as do many other local built brands/models. Even my previous old Nissan did.

Our little Chevrolet Aveo has a heater. Not sure where it's built though.

  2. With thai teachers withholding information in lieu of tutoring fees that thai students need to truly comprehend what they are taught this number is surprisingly low. That and the fact that thai students are not taught to think, evaluate, or surmise will keep the thais education level at a low level! Ignorance is bliss Sent from my GT-S5310 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

From a brief experience of teaching I can see that thinking is not encouraged in LOS

  3. Personally I find anachronistic (and expensive!) the need of 3 different uniforms (gym, scout/army and normal day) with cleaned spare and the relative expensive and low quality shoes..

How a poor family can afford this expense?

And, IMHO, but just mine, uniforms at school are so much North Korea style...

I'm with you on the uniform. I have three sons and they can't

share gym or scout or school uniforms as they have their

names embroidered on the bloody things.

The Thai's do like a uniform. The more the merrier.

  4. This might be of interest to Farangs, contemplating to run with Thai GF into the deepest corner of rural Thailand , with the purpose to leading a live in harmony and happiness

Initial cost: 2.5 Mil Bht for house, 500'000 Bht for new pick-up = 3 Million bht as a start-up price. Start-up cost 3 million bht.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shock therapy: With this amount the humble Farang could enjoy nightly enjoyment and companionship for about 8,5 years. If reduced to 1 time per week enjoyment, it would probably surpass the live expectancy of the average Farang by far.

Will not sit well with 90% of Farangs here. They are here for the Temples and the Finnish-Sauna-Like Weather 9 months out of the year. AND: "How dare you, bringing "love" into a mathematical context". Well, I know a good number of Farangs, that wish they had looked at the "Thai-Love-Factor" beforehand, including the mathematics.smile.png

    Cheers.

You forgot to include the 1,000,000 Baht to rebuild mums house in the village

  5. Ouch. She reminds me of George W Bush. But wait, he was supposedly speaking in his native language. And he somehow got elected to two terms to lead the 'world's most powerful nation'. Stones and glass houses. [but yes, language aside, the thinking is not impressive].

That said, my understanding is that the individual capabilities of the leader in parliamentary democracies are less critical than in presidential democracies ... policy and direction (in theory) are supposed to be decided on more collectively. Of course, the personal style of the leader also shifts these a bit: prime ministers with strong personalities (Lee Kwan Yew, Thaksin, etc.) can 'drive' the party's direction, while some presidents may try to be more consultative in stye (Obama). Besides, she's hot. smile.png

In the words of Basil Fawlty: "not very bright". Goes for her and George W Bush

  6. I'm glad she fixed the war on drugs and poverty.......

Poverty reduction programs in Thailand have been very successful under Thaksin and associated govts. Of course many people aren't so keen on that , preferring to keep a source of slave labour and cheap goods. That genie is out of the bottle.

Please describe any of the poverty reduction policies of Thaksin and how successful they have been and also how they have been financed. It seems that all that Thaksin has succeeded in is getting the poor into a cycle of more and more relentless debt and their only escape now is to continue to vote for him and his policies of paying off some of that debt (all lies of course). Wait for part of their party election manifesto to be to cut the debt on the agri bank credit cards the farmers were all issued with which had to be used to buy more expensive fertiliser and chemicals. Remember where you heard it first wink.png

Go to any village in Isaan and there is plenty of poverty to view first hand. As for the drugs, she did a good job eradicating them in just 12 months. Oh no, that's right, Yabaa is at epidemic levels in Thailand. Coincidentally, it's most prevalent amongst the poor.

  7. Lil Kim can behave as he wishes solely because of China. Sad,

I think even China's patience will wear thin with his sabre rattling. Big problem is the nuclear weapons and a well trained, supposedly loyal army of over 1m people on active service plus several million reservists.

If anywhere on the world deserves a revolution it is N Korea. Fingers crossed. Be great to see Kim 3 publicly executed.

Better to have him skewered and barbecued.

He'd probably feed half of the country's starving for a week.

Maybe the USA could send in one of their drones in to wipe the nasty, inbred, fat maggot out. Think the whole world would be grateful, even China.

  9. My wife want's a gun ,,, Having real estate problems with locals,,,

She says to protect herself !!!

She is also a short tempered , hot headed and dare I say emotionally unstable ,,,

I am of the opinion that she is not the only Thai wife with that condition !!!

I am sure that after receiving the weaponery ,,,

There lies the possibility of a few extinguished persons in front of our house !!!

Also would fear for my own safety after an highly emotional day !!!

Unfortunately I have been witness to Thai emotions building up ,,, Then the silent treatment ,,, finally a violent rage of uncontrolable anger !!!

Maybe this incident has been brewing for a long time and ""BOOM""

I can visualise an emotional day in your house post gun purchase:

You: Tilak where is the gun?

Wife: I told you once! BANG!!!!!!

  11. PHUKET: -- A drunk Ukrainian man who urinated off a Patong bridge, fell asleep, then tumbled three metres down a ditch was taken to hospital with head injuries.

    This is news because?

    Who cares?

Alcohol is the devils brew and under its influence we do our most stupid things.

    Must be silly season.

  12. Bangkok's BTS and MRT are two fine mass transit systems. Clearly a great mass transit system is one that works and one that provides passenger security included in the price of a ticket. This breakdown of the BTS reflects poor management, security and safety. The delay in communications is a terrible management breakdown.
Fourteen years without a major problem, I think your post is a bit over the top. If disruption of the system becomes a regular occurrence then I might agree with you.

Agree with you there mate, 14 years without a major hitch is a fine achievement. Personally I think Thailand. Can be proud of the MRT system in Bangkok.

I bet TFL, the operators of the London underground, would like to make the same claim.

  13. You're talking about people who use toxic leaking plastic bags for incredibly hot food, and over spray (200%+ one report said) deadly pesticides all over their crops. Aluminum pots and pans are no different... Mai pen rai.

Yeah, kinda puts it into perspective. Not to mention they smoke huge quantities of cheap cigarettes and get blitzed in inferior quality booze. But as we say mai bpen rai!

  14. I got a bit worried reading this. I have been using a SHARP rice cooker, which has an aluminium pot, for cooking most things, though mainly porridge most days, does anyone think I have cause for worry?

Hmmmmm, good point, we use good quality stainless steel pans but of course the rice cooker is aluminium. It's a branded one so hopefully it will be good quality alli, not the alloy stuff being discussed here,
