Many Aussies, Americans and Europeans have been caught for more than 15 years of overstay in Thailand but it didn't elicit such profiling and condemnation from you and your ilks. What do you have against Africans? What about those who are working tirelessly as teachers, lecturers, businessmen etc. contributing to the growth of Thai economy in their little space? Don't they have good reputations of being law abiding visitors and stayers too? Have you ever wondered how they were able to stay that long without being caught for such a long period of time? I think honest answers to these question will go a long way in addressing the problems by the authorities concerned. We are in 21st century and rise above your petty hatred and racism.
that’s a great post. I find the lack of reaction to it rather telling tho.just shows how ignorant people are. There has been a large West African business community here for years, lots of long established shipping companies etc
mind you, if you walk into any expat bar in Thailand you never have to wait long before and Ignorant bigot starts loudly mouthing off

If you read the article he was the ring leader and one of his runners was arrested and led the police back to the ring leader.
Of course people didn’t read the article. Just saw the word “Nigerian” in the headline and decided Jump in feet first. -

such an ignorant comment, there are a lot of long established and respected Nigerian and West African businesses in Thailand.

I’ll tick Samui of the list then. Looks like
Pattaya is the only place one can still sit in a restaurant (at a healthy and respectful distance)

Did you not read about the curfew?
Why do you think I’m asking a question about the situation on the ground?

To how it was on Saturday?
i was in Pattaya last week and although quiet. You could still sit in a restaurant and have a meal etc. Central was open and there was a few things to do to pass the time

You read some tripe on here, but this really takes the biscuit.

Lockdown. Nothing open. Some restaurants open for takeaways and deliveries only. No bars open.
Not strictly true. One beer bar in a famous red light area was operating in plane sight last night (bizarrly) and another non red light pub in another district is open but with customers sat outside in a spot difficult to observe from the street.
im sure there are lots more

It seems inevitable that the economic/social costs are going to be far higher than the medical/social ones.
The Thai government is displaying all those qualities we have come to expect; inability to make critical assessments; taking advice from people they know best rather than from people who know best; following the mantram of "We must do something. This is something. Therefore we must do it."
How long do they think they can lock this country down, even if Covid were nearly as deadly as is being claimed?
Thai people have been scared by official announcements so far, but I'll bet by the middle of April, pressure to open up again will prevail.
I well remember Sir Arnold explaining that to Sir Humphrey- 1

There was also a time in my life in Bangkok when I lived like that. I know it's possible.
But I also know that many farangs spend a lot more than that - and then they "complain" when Thais need more than 10k per month...
yeah I know what you meanive known a few blokes who can’t understand why their Tilac isn’t happy about living off 10k
it’s almost like they want to do something more than eat 3 times a day and watch basic cable

Amazed to see a beer bar open and operating in plain sight last night...

There was a few beer bars operating “under cover” as off last Sat night.
Is this still the case? -

I think it's funny that many farangs here pretend 30k is a fortune.
How many of us want to live with only 30k per month?
How many of us would be able to live from 30k if they tried?
I know some farangs live with less but there are many farangs who will struggle with only 30k.
Obviously many Thais live with less. But most of us know the concept that we adjust our spending to our income. If we are used to a "high" income we have expensive rent, food, transport, etc. and those pretty bargirl also know how to make life better - and more expensive.
I lived off less than that 15 years ago when i first came here
5,000 rent
800 electric
1,000 p/w food and the rest was on booze and women
not a creed to live your life by, but it was fun at the time- 1
