  1. When my best friend died when we were traveling here 3 years back, everyone was more than helpful. I was just a friend nothing more, but the body was sent and handled just how I wanted and everything was very easy.

I would assume is one is really married to a Thai, the spouse would have little trouble and getting things done as I have seem before.

If it's just some bar girl, or other rented girl you call your girl friend, yes, they may want to contact family or your Embassy.

  2. Tried out the Rosso II's on my favorite tight twisty hill today.

Took longer to get them but they got installed this morning.

What a transformation they made to this bike ! Really way beyond my expectations.

I Have had good tires on other bikes but I guess the difference from stock on those

compared to stock on this N250 was much wider.

Right from the beginning riding I could tell they would be nice. The bike just turned in better even on my way to

the hills. Also where I had originally thought that maybe I would need to lower the shock setting/stiffness on the rear to a softer setting

    all is fine now.

Before if I had to brake hard before a turn or even using high RPM engine braking the back would skittle/chatter & loose contact.

Now it is just planted solid. I guess the stock tires really had a hard long wear compound with little carcass give.

But the best is the full leans. You can go as far as you like now & I had no problems getting to the edge.

So sure footed! Exiting turns while accelerating now also extremely sure footed.

I am really impressed / blown away actually by the difference these made on this bike.

Sizes you installed on the bike ?

  3. The Lifan Ares 110 has a 3.7 liter tank. (So they say) Gas gauge shows empty at about half a tank so today I waited. I figured about 170 - 180km per tank full range. At just over 150km it died on me. Lucky for me it was just after lunch and about 30m from my home. On another bike I went to the local PTT station and filled a little gas can with 3.7 liters exactly, (another story in itself) thinking it would fill it 100%. On it's center stand I could only put 3.2 liters in the tank. On it's side stand and with much shaking of the tank I could put up to 3.5 liters.

So something is a little off here or the tank is of poor design and 100% of it's capacity is unavalable

  4. And jeffrey, thanks for your reports and courage

But people ride their bikes in different ways. I might like to ride it hard and another ride it soft. So if you ride your lifan on 40 kmh and stop for all potholes, it might last longer.

How will you measure this factor?

Some times I ride hard and some times just an easy cruise. Just like my Ninja. I am sure in 20,000 km it will be some of everything and more than most people would do in years on their bikes. In this year I will take it to Mae Sail, Mae Hong Son loop. Bangkok, Pattaya. etc. And so far it has been up Highway 1 @ 110 kph and Highway 11 at 100 Kph so I think if anything I will be harder than most on it. And if you really knew me, ex racer, I'm more Kamikaze than anything on a bike

  5. 10 hours solid on scooter, why would you not buy something bigger?

Do you ever ride 10 hours solid ? is your tank big enough ? Could you even do that in a car with no potty break or something to eat ?

I drive, that's what I like, and if I can share with others what I find out so be it. Good and bad. The Lifan Ares 110 is my smallest bike, I do have others, and I like riding all kinds. If I had dozens of errands around town I would not take a big bike like a GS1150, or even my Ninja. However some times I do like doing back roads on the little bikes too. In my years of riding here, I find I get better reactions from the locals when I am on a small bike of the masses than a huge bike that cost more than they will make in their life time.

So twice a month my work has me down to Bangkok, Pattaya, or beyond, and nearly weekly up north to the boarder. Not always on a small bike, but not always on a large one either. My goal is 20,000 on this one to see how it stands up over time. Just taking my daughter to school and back each day is 50 km. That's 12,500 km alone just taking her to school and back. So it should be easy to do . . . bike willing

  6. It is actually against the law for you to be without it

What law is that ? Please state the exact law word for word or give the number of it to look up ?

For years, as most people I didn't even have one. Many times in my life here in Thailand I have given it to immigration who held it for weeks some times, The police have too. But I know of no law that says I must have it with me at all times,

  7. Not sure where your from, nor did you say where your going here or what your doing.

If $2500 is everything for your whole trip, You will need to be a miser with your funds and quickly get a low cost apartment and rent a low cost motorbike or scooter

As for getting robbed, much more likely where your coming from then here. Be smart, don't flash a lot of cash, and stay away from the bar girls, they go to special schools to learn how to make you want to part with your money.

ATM's are everywhere, even out in the sticks.

First few trips here I budgeted $100 a day. got that down to $50 and now live family of 3 on less than $1000 a month

But I have friends who can burn through $1000 in a day

  8. First tank 50 klp

Wife says the seat feels higher than the Wave

    Second tank 57 kpl

Highest speed noted so far 110 kph

On the way taking my daughter to school a PCX 150 smoked us. Yes we are on the humble Ares 110 and about 160 kilos of weight and moving along at 100 kph

The Aries failed the Egg test. Purchased 10 eggs at the fresh market, put them in the basket, then drove the long way home, 50 km, over the bumpiest roads I could find. Half were broken half not. Had scrambled eggs for breakfast.

This morning went up to Doi Sethep. 20 km up winding hills. The bike did 60 – 80 all the way up without complaint and down the brakes worked as they should and the handling was confidence inspiring. Better than the Wave

Third tank 50 kpl but was all hill work. Gas gauge is pessimistic. Shows empty when it is half full

Every morning the bike starts right up with no choke. Mornings are cool too at 12c with sitting all night

Did some unofficial drag races with a friend on a Honda Wave 110. I am heavier but the Lifan was faster off the line and only on the very top end near 100 kph did the Honda seem to have more oomph !

1 thing that could be a safety issue is the bike will start in any gear. The Honda only starts in neutral

  9. I will wait for my dealer to get one in then ask him how much to order the complete wheel and tyre set ready to swap onto my 250l as and when needed.

Good plan...will wait and see if they're running the same engine first...or could do the reverse...buy an M and get the L's wheels and tyres thumbsup.gif

Honda already has stated that the Engine is just the same . . . .

  10. The Ares 110

The Lifan Ares 110 looks much like a Honda Wave 100 I had a few years back, with extras. I picked a red one. Blue as well as black were other choices of colors. The Red has both Painted shiny Black trim as well as flat black plastic trim parts. The Engine, swing arm, frame and most components are powder coat black. A nice touch with a few chrome pieces here and there that are not to my liking but look OK.

The Single cylinder 109cc 2 valve motor Is just like most Wave 110’s. This one comes with an electric as well as kick starter, which I really like. Yet where Honda Has moved on to fuel injection, the Lifan still is using a carburetor. Time will tell how that effects fuel economy. The motor quickly stated with no help form the manual choke. The engine was very quiet and almost sounded like it was an electric motor. Durability, time will tell . . .

Front brake is a 2 piston disk. The rotor itself looks exactly like the Hondas unit. Initially it seems weaker to me than my last wave, but again, I am writing this with only 2 km showing on the bike, and the rear drum brake feels stronger.

Body panels have good fit and finish. Paint quality is top notch. Stickers tasteful, yet I may take the Lifan stickers off just to see what people say about the bike.

All the switches seem of good quality and in the usual places. A nice extra is the light switch options of on, parking, or off for those times you want a dim light on when your next to the road on a busy street at night. (Kick starter is there if you stay too long)

The shutter key ignition lock seems directly sourced from the same supplier as Honda, and a feature not on their lowest price bikes.

Wheels are a high quality cast alloy units. Tires are 70/90 front and 80/90 rear Duro brand. And I must say the smaller tires stock on my Wave I pitched in a few days because they left me feeling unstable. The Duros seem of higher quality and so far seem very stable and up to the job. I had thought I would quickly change them out but after a few km I am thinking maybe I will hold off.

The bike has the usual center stand as well as side kick stand. The kick stand does not have a safety shut switch. And initially the center stand feels not quite as smooth in operation as the wave does.

The bike has a standard front basket that has a lid and a clasp. It is smaller than the optional extra cost Wave basket but a helmet will not fit in it as it does on the Wave. It also comes with a spring closing rack mid bike between the steering and the seat. Maybe for a purse or hand bag ? I have seen helmet here too. Under seat storage is licked with a the same key as the ignition, but needs to be unlocked on the side of the bike. Under the seat is the tool kit, battery, and owner’s manual. Not much more than gloves, a map, rain gear, and spare tub will fit here.

  11. 20,000km/year on a dirt bike, you have a hard ass.. If I did that I would fall to bits

Re Chinese Honda Wave it is a no brainer Honda is 34,000 baht new, 70km/litre, last forever, sells for shed loads, why would you bother?

The Lifan Ares is not a dirt bike, though I have taken it off road . . .

The last Honda I got last year was 2000 Bt shy of 60,000 Bt. lowest price at this time is 38,000 Bt for drum brake kick start. and is rated at 57 (no Honda is rated at 70 kpl)
