  1. Thanks for pointing that out, add the middle ring sign and a bit more, now how's that.post-131333-0-11895100-1330820092_thumb.

And I'd add that the road shown below Rimping is the Middle Ring Road. Also, taking that clearly shown left fork is important. (I find myself invited for some reason to forge right all the time.)

And the water tower, coming from the south, is a great signal.

as long as you note that the "water tower" is a tall structure with a lot of large blue barrels on top of it... not a single container type of tower...

the soi entrance into SK is small and right along side of some small business structures... so if you are not looking for the water tower you might miss it on your left...(opposite the water tower, coming from the south).

If you are coming from the north... not sure how to handle, it... i come from the laguna swimming pool along the back streets and i noticed a sign pointed to SK... so perhaps he has it well marked from that side also.

  2. Owner of Mei Jiang is Cantonese from Hongkong there's nothing Thai about the his food. Excellent food, don't forget another branch 'Yangsee Jiang' in Nimmanhaemin. Both provide Authentic Cantonese style food

Fujian at Dara Devi Oriental chef also from Hongkong excellent meal. I dare you to try it.

Jia Tong Heng is more like Thai interpretation of Chinese food but cheap. Owner attitude toward me was pretty rude and arrogant.

'Chow mein' is more like American Chinese food and there's no where in Thailand that I know of making them

The one near Teppanya Hospital also Jia Tong Heng.

There's no good Chinese food here. It's all Thai Chinese food or Thai food with a Chinese spin. I've tried all the places recommended except the large place off the Super Highway near Teppanya Hospital and didn't like any of them. Cantonese style is my favorite.

If you ask for chow mein anywhere, they look at you and have no idea what you are talking about.

  3. Will try this thanks

Royal India is my favorite too and inexpensive. Not a great atmosphere though. Also, the Kabab House right around the corner is in the same category and the family is related

There is also a new, (cleaner) place almost across from the Duangtawan hotel that is a little more expensive with smaller portions, but tasty.

  4. Royal India uses tandoor and Naan taste like those in India and food is just like India. They supply to big hotel so I've heard. Give it a try just ignore the decor and smell. (Been to India 3 times I've seen worst)

New Delhi was very very good too but heard some complaints, don't know the current status.

Bollywood, well.. the last time I had biryani it was like eating mexican rice but that's IMHO and Naan tasted like some pizza bread.

Hinlay, ... he don't make real Indian curry although beef randang which is Indonesian should be nice

Le Spice in the Night Bazaar does a Western style Indian food well decor

Chedi hotel, best curry in Chiang Mai similar to Rang Mahal in BKK but extremely pricey.

Still have not tried the one opposite the Duantawan hotel

If run out of options, try Sausage King Chicken Vindaloo, Rob sure knows how to make Curry, got me addicted!

This evening , found Royal india, but not feel to go inside. Outside the corner, saw 2 Indian place, Kabab house and one other, forget the name, was quite crowded. Tried vindaloo at kabab house, was not very spicy and nan bread they make on fry pan. They dnt have tandoor. But price was realy cheap. Will try other place.

  5. Malaysia is also a Muslim country.

We have some business with the rubber industry in the southern regions - it is still all corruption, nepotism, poverty, filth and impassable roads during the rainy season.

Myanmar won't be 'open' as we know it for a long while and - despite most people's prognoses on this thread - won't be a Chinese vassal state. There have been some excellent articles lately outlining China's worry that its allies are falling by the wayside and falling into the US' hands.

Those ten lane highways? clap2.gif They are all in the new capitol and end a few kilometres outside of town.

To those who profess to be so sick and tired of Thailand's corruption and whatnot, why not try the Malaysia My Second Home scheme? Malaysia has far more beautiful beaches, islands, better food, far more educated people - everyone speaks English - the road system is excellent, the infrastructure in general is fantastic . . . but then there's no cheap beer and whores.

dam_n, I knew there was a reason why Malaysia has more tourists but less western 'expats' of the non-working kind

  6. Many people I know have been to Burma and from what they said, the infrastructure is pretty much not ready yet and certainly not good to bring up family. I suggest you take the trip around SEA I personally think Vietnam rocks!

(Have you even been to Burma?)

    No, I have not.

  7. So you live in Nam Prae? You build your own or rent I discovered the area recently and it is nice with a few mins to town.

We live about 15 mins away from the town, but it is our main shopping centre. Fantastic fresh food market, a gem of a supermarket run by the SanPatong Agricultural Co-op ( with a juicy 3% divi on purchases!), some reasonable restaurants, etc. Not a bad choice of a place to live, and from the amount of new building going on, it can only get better.

  8. Do you use air con regularly?

I think a fair minimum price for food would be closer to 200B per day. Thai people can do cheaper than that because they live in big families or they live with friends or relatives and they cook themselves. If you live alone it's cheaper to buy food in stalls on the street than it is to cook yourself. If you're a farang (and especially and American) your average daily (food) intake will cost more than 120B per day (taking into account bigger people need more food).

I am American, and my household spends B120-150 per day on food - my two kids, the full-time live-in maid and her two daughters.

Supplemented by B1,200-1,500 for stuff like toiletries & cleaning supplies and the ex-wife's family sends up 10kg of rice whenever someone comes to BKK.

We buy from the Klong Toey market, just basic fruit and veg, small daily amounts of eggs/pork/chicken/fish and of course cook at home.

Spending on street food is an occasional luxury, and much less healthy.

  9. If you mean anchovies made in Thailand then I havn't seen it. I know Pla Raa is fish fermented with rice to rot and many Thai don't try one so you are more Thai than many Thai. clap2.gif

I've tried the Thai anchovies. They have a very different flavor from the European/North African variety. Also, be sure you buy them from the refrigerator case. I bought them off the shelf once and they had gone bad. Pla Raa is mild by comparison.
