Most of you will be unaware that Thailand has been on a sanction watch list by the USA for years, based upon currency manipulation, protectionism and other factors. One reason why they haven't been sanctioned before now is the general US political consensus that they are a useful ally in SE Asia. If Thailand joins BRICS it's joining an organisation known to be hostile to US interests. That's a decision for Thailand. If they then suffer the consequences for declaring themselves allied with hostile nations they'll have brought it upon themselves.
