  1. What other reason is there to call someone a troll? You must be wrong but unable to admit it. Or you just don't like someone. There must be another logical reason the other person should not be allowed to disagree with you.

If he is lying call him a liar. If he posts a lunatic accusation ask him for a link. If he is off topic tell him he is off topic.

There is simply no definition for troll that has any value over the root cause for calling him a troll. Troll is a made up word for wanting to censor a person for disagreeing with you.

So by your logic, the term "Troll" doesn't exist simply because there is always a better/more accurate synonym to use instead? Pretty much every noun and verb in the English language has a synonym; they'd save an awful lot of paper printing dictionaries in your world.

A troll is someone who's intent is to raise ire without concern for the topic at hand. Someone can be wrong, off-topic or inaccurate without being a troll. An example of a troll post: A few years back on this forum there was a post about Thai's going to Finland to pick Blueberries - and the question was as to whether this was some kind of slave labour. I posted during the thread that my sister-in-law did it each year and actually closed her Bangkok business down for the two months she was out there, as she earned more money in those two months picking than she did the other ten months running a small business in Bangkok. A new poster replied that she must be a prostitute and earns more on her back in Finland that she can earn in Bangkok because she is an ugly prostitute - a second new poster concurred and off they went slagging her off and all Thai females basically. I did try to explain this was not the case, but in usual troll-like manor, they just started to attack me personally too (even though they knew me from Adam - and having never read my posts from before or even bothered to look at my profile - were incredibly way off mark). Now, these people were both wrong, inaccurate and off-topic, but they were more than that, they were Trolls (and yes I did report them - and after they did likewise to others on other posts - they were eventually banned - far too slowly IMO and I told TV support that in the correct offline manor too).

Personally, I detest Trolls, but some posters are correct, the term is used far too much and incorrectly here. The Mods to a much better job of killing off real trolls these days than once was the case - and I personally applaud that. A bigger problem here right now, as was in 2010 too, is extremists that spam extorted and vastly inaccurate rhetoric, propaganda and hyperbole on each and every news thread that in anyway is political. These muppets do nothing for any of the threads they post in - no one believes them, and they are merely patted on the back ('liked' and agreed with) by others of their ilk - the same people each time of course. Indeed, these people are worse than trolls as trolls always come across as 12 year old boys that have just discovered expletives, these muppets off-topic every thread and simply entice their equal members in whatever opposite camp there be to post equal and opposite BS. It is easy to ignore trolls for what they are, and being as their IQs equate with chimps, get quickly bored and go and attack Ask.com instead. Muppets, on the other hand, thrive repeating themselves, and patting anyone body else that in any way seems to follow their line, and do not seem to even have a high enough IQ to get bored - like automatons. Threads become unreadable or just to annoying/difficult to read and the topic is killed and viable, relevant, intelligent discourse lost amongst the muppet posts.

At long last someone has had the patience and then taken the time to explain that a troll is something OTHER than a poster who disagrees with you or posts facts that contradict your information.

BTW, why is so much attention being paid to us mere posters these days ;-?

    (just askin', is all ;-))

  2. To those who are questioning the competence of Dr Panpimol Wipulakorn, please note that she is the director of the Ranjanukol Institute. The Foundation for Ranjanukul is under the Royal patronage of HRH Princess Niwattana, so I suggest those offering criticism of the competence of the doctor and the supporting staff who reviewed the data, to exercise some sober second thought before attacking the woman.

Dr. Wipulakorn is not a spokesman for the PTP political party. She is apolitical. Not that it matters, but she is part of the "elite" and holds high social status. Her education and background puts her well above those spewing malicious comments on this thread. What matters is that she went into public service because she is a decent and caring person. She accepted a pay scale that is a fraction of what she could make running a private practice catering to the neurotic families of hi-sos. I do not agree with some of her views, but I certainly respect her dedication, her compassion and her work ethic. I am aghast, that so many people who have no idea who she is, are insulting and denigrating her. She is one health professional who has tried to help the intellectually challenged and those suffering with serious genetic illnesses, and she has made a personal sacrifice to help. Have some bloody respect.

Again, I will state, the data she is basing her comparison on in respect to historical data is published and peer reviewed. It is used by Mahidol and other respected medical teaching institutions. In respect to the alleged suicides that she has reviewed, it is based upon the existing post mortems and other supporting information. She is not inventing the debilitating illness that caused one of the deceased to not be in control of his bowels or his bladder. Due to patient privacy rules, she's not allowed to provide the full post mortem data. If she did, I'd expect the same lot criticizing her, would say she violated patient privacy. The financial characteristics that she described, are part and parcel of other characteristics. Multiple factors may have influenced the suicide. To those who wish to claim that the causative factor for the cited suicides was debt in the rice pledging program, I defy you to prove the allegation. You can't. In any given year, there are dozens of people classified as "farmers" who commit suicide. They had health issues, alcoholism and debt before there was a rice pledging program, and they will be committing suicide long after the rice program is binned. General financial status is a contributing factor in some of the suicides and she has stated that. The debt was longstanding and not serviced in some of the cases. It did not suddenly appear in conjunction with the rice pledging program. She hasn't covered anything up.

Dr. Wipulakorn is not a spokesman for the PTP political party

and neither are you but it would be hard to see that given the tone of your posts.

  3. I just thought of a perfect example of a troll. He how evedr does not post on Thai Visa but if he did Chalerm would be a perfect example. With all his I am going to do such and such a thing in three months and the one I liked was the one where he said he was going to cut of his head.

That would be Thai Visa trolism at it's best.

  4. Here is an example why every western country does not recognise anything from Thailand to do with medical, mental health or any other educational institutions... probably one of the most epic failures, to go with a host of others, in coming out with a factual investigation. Absolute garbage... and the blind trying to manipulate a fast awaking and seeing public.

Why is it that UC Berkley, Stanford, UCLA & USC medical schools send their eye doctors to Thailand to study Lasik surgery?

Because Thailand is using technology that won't be introduced into the US for a few more years...... they are one of the world leaders.

Oh, Thailand also has a fantastic reputation with Plastic surgeons....... they have done some amazing work.

I second that! Plus, most good doctors at hospitals, albeit in Bangkok where they are better paid (and that's what they studied for), have studied in the US or the UK.

In addition, the current scientific investigations occuring at Chula, Mahidol, Khon Kaen and King Monkut's Uni are way ahead of what's happening in many places deemed the best in the world. Marstar, your opinion is garbage..... and manipulates only your own perception.

Well there is no getting around it Thailand does have some excellent doctors.

As for studying the lasic surgery could it be that the equipment is far more efficient here rather than the doctor. The States are not exactly quick on picking up new ideas that they did not think of themselves.

Will be looking at it myself in about three years the doctor tells me any recommendations for Chiang Mai or else where if the price difference isn't to big a difference.

  5. I would seem to me that the roots of the words are misunderstood. I don't bleive it comes from the mythical animal that lives under bridges but the method of fishing. Though now it would seem the former is used as a subtext.

so those who use the word actually often don't understand the meaning and think it silly means "someone who disagrees with them"

I disagree with you how ever I do not consider you a troll just some one with a different opinion than mine. This is a subject unlike politics where we have definite facts to work with. Such as we know the Government owes rice farmers a lot of money.

Now a troll would say the money has all been paid.

I consider a troll some one putting up inane post to merely get responses that are directly opposite to their statement. They are not looking for confirmation of it.

  6. ""We found that the main risk factors for committing suicide were mental-health problems, physical ailments and family problems. Economic problems caused by large informal debts was also a main factor leading them to commit suicide," Panpimol said."

Thank you for your diagnosis, Dr. Panpimol. I also have a mental problem that will make me suicide because of the crap that you mentioned. A typical, familiar, suspicious Pheu Thai comment to save face...

The statement is consistent with the data collected on Thai suicides. I made this point several days ago when people were making false statements.

Do you know which province has the highest rate of suicide is in Thailand? Brace yourself because it is contrary to every myth that foreigners have. It is Lumphon province. It's where fruit is grown, and where there are several industrial estates and cogeneration power plants. It is not a province known for its rice. In fact, rice is grown for domestic consumption. Maize is the primary grain crop.

The reality is that suicide rates in Thailand started their significant reduction in 2001, plateauing in 2006. Do you know what period that coincides with? Had the rates instead increased, I would expect you and others would blame Thaksin. However, as the numbers were reduced, I suppose you should be singing the praises of Thaksin. What actually happened, was that mental health services became more accessible and the government embarked on a national strategy to deal with alcohol and illegal drug use. Coincidentally, there was an increase in suicide rates for males, especially adolescent males during the Aids crisis. It decreased as HIV treatment programs came into force. The suicide rate of Thailand has been fairly constant since 2006.

Thais were killing themselves long before the rice program, and they will continue to kill themselves long after it is dismantled. Farmers have been killing themselves for the past century without anyone playing the blame game. Suicide is a manifestation of mental illness. You and the other people who have not read the data, want to offer a simplistic explanation for what is historically a complex problem, because it serves as an opportunity to criticize the current government. Well if you want to criticize, ask why mental health budgets were not buttressed during the governments after 2005-2006.

Have you got a point in all that rambling. it is rice farmers committing suicide. Not fruit growers.

Well if you want to criticize, ask why mental health budgets were not buttressed during the governments after 2005-2006.

For the most part they were Thaksin led governments. The Abhist led government was a week coalition government. Hence not able to do a lot. Yet it was able to stop the rise in corruption and given the time Thaksin has had could maybe have done some thing about the mental health issue in Thailand. We will never know.

How ever we might wonder about the mental health of the people he hired in an ill thought out coupe attempt. Perhaps he wanted the mental health issue to stay stagnate. I don't know and neither do you.

But it gives us a big insight as to who has been responsible. If you have been keeping up you will know that the current government has done nothing to improve the regular medical situation. They have had the Doctors and the Nurses telling them this.

  7. It's always useful when state agencies release rubbish like this. Shows you who's payroll they're on.

There's probably the odd numpty out there that will believe it but overall such statements just undermine the credibility of the agency.

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Unfortunately given the Thai level of education which does not include the ability to reason just accept many of them will accept the report.

Case in point look at the picture of the rice farmer there to support the PTP.

  8. Ahhhh, after re-reading the article I could be mistaken for an April fool. They demagogued us.

    Arguments unrelated to a discussion

Unrelated facts — bringing unrelated facts that sound in favor of the speaker's agenda. For example, marking a vegetable or cereal product as "cholesterol free". Since cholesterol is only found in animal products, such labeling does not actually distinguish this product from similar competitors.

In this case looking at this article and keep in mind that there have been 9 suicides directly related to the rice scheme; Notice the bits underlined.

Department deputy director-general Dr Panpimol Wipulakorn said the investigation found that nine of them had committed suicide because they owed a large number of informal debts. Three committed suicide as they had been suffering from congenital diseases. The remaining farmer's suicide could not be linked to the rice-pledging scheme.

The underlined bit is the bit we are interested in. This is the nine farmers that have committed suicide due to debts. All 9 suicides in the links above and after interviews with the families show they refer to the rice scheme and having no money as the reason for suicide. We all know they borrowed off loan sharks (informal debt) so this is truth. The other bits are for the gullible trying to get us off the root truth and bewilder us with UNRELATED FACTS.

Three committed suicide as they had been suffering from congenital diseases. I am sure they are correct. We knew this had nothing to do with the rice scheme.

The remaining farmer's suicide could not be linked to the rice-pledging scheme. Remaining? What 10, 50, 100? Either way you are still correct. We knew this had nothing to do with the rice scheme.

This allows the govt dept to shift the blame away from them while still slipping the truth in there.

They nearly got me on this one.

Sorry Dr Panpimol Wipulakorn, I'm not that gullible. clap2.gif

Well you may be right but

Three committed suicide as they had been suffering from congenital diseases. I am sure they are correct. We knew this had nothing to do with the rice scheme.

Those three if they had been paid could have maybe received the medical attention to resolve the congenital diseases problem. We can not say they were not linked to the rice scamwai.gif

  9. These were not suicides, the government murdered these farmers by proxy. The Mental Health Department's report's purpose is to absolve the government from guilt, but they fail utterly because the "expert" is an idiot.

Have you even bothered to read the data on suicide and its incidence in Thailand?

You call the doctor an idiot. Why? Because you didn't bother to read the data, or the WHO review?

Nothing that the doctor stated was contrary to the published reviews. Why don't you and the other self anointed epidemiologists go and read the data.

    from the article:

total of 13 suicides: 9 because of debt. 3 because of disease. 1 no clue at all.

The "expert" said (paraphrasing}: main factors for suicide are mental Health problems, disease and family problems. Economic problems also.

Obviously, in the cases of the farmers, the absolute main reason is debt, no money. And not mental health or disease. The "expert" is whitewashing the government by trying to obscure and minimize the effect of debt.

as for being a self anointed epidemiologist, I take that, and I think it is better than what the government did by creating this epidemic. And it is also better than having been adopted as Dr. Thaksin's geriatric kid.

Well they got one right. No clue at all. About 7 1/2% right.

Or should I make that 7 1/2% honest.

  10. Lets see! Large informal debts have absolutely nothing to do with their inability to repay due to the rice scheme. Flailing health means excessive medical bills so their inability to pay those are not a factor as well. What a joke this mental health report is making.

Sent from my GT-S5310 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

If the mental health field in Thailand had any credibility it just lost it.

But the important thing is Yingluck is innocent. She can sleep good at night.

  11. The 'news' forum is a cesspit of idiots repeating the same 5 clichéd arguments. Half the time im not sure if someone is being serious, or satirical in their post.

I might fall into that category. But I like to repeat ones that are based in fact. There are people who on many threads there will make the most outlandish statements continually. They never vary or give any source. They are the type I think who would argue with you over what time it is both using the same clock. They do it to get attention. I have noticed some of them disappearing only to come up again under another name. I think it is the moderators giving them a certain amount of rope and then pulling the chair out from under them.

Then again there are the ones who will start a topic similar to this one where there can be no clear definition and if they come up with one it is useless any way.

  12. News Flash

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has just read their verdict and found Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra guilty of corruption in the rice-pledging scheme.

    http://thainews.prd.go.th/centerweb/newsen/NewsDetail?NT01_NewsID=WNPOL5702180010010

    Its about time.

There is one suspicious part in that article.

Mr Vicha elaborated that Ms Yingluck had been warned in advance by the commission as well as the Office of the Auditor General about irregularities in the rice pledging scheme. She was also well aware of the problems after having listened to House debates over the matter but still pushed forward with the scheme.

When did she stick around the house long enough to hear any thing.

She spends more time in her own house trying to decide which outfit to wear.

  13. I'd like to say "Take em down, arrest everyone, stop all this nonsense". But it would be better to continue as before. Find a way to continue "care-taking" despite the protest annoyances and let his numbers continue to dwindle on their own as people get tired and leave from the lack of effectiveness that they are having and the fact that they have no real clearly formulated goal in sight anyway.

Stop all this nonsense and what then?

You are probably as new to Thailand as you are to Thai Visa. and have not been given the correct information. Yes the people are dwindling. They unlike the red shirts of 2010 have to work for a living. They are not getting paid for the protests. the people will tire and eventually disappear frown the streets but they still want a honest government and will return if the Shinawatra's continue to rape and plunder the nation.

At this very moment the rice farmers one of there basic supporters are protesting. Why is the police not dispersing them? According to the way the PTP government interpreted the 2010 clash that was started by armed red shirts Abhist and Suthep are guilty of murder. They have been charged with it. Now we have the very same thing the government has murdered a protestor so they should also be charging Yingluck and Chalerm.

Fat Chance of that happening this government does not operate under the same rules they try to impose on every one else.

That alone should call for their resignation. If you had been here for the last two and a half years you would have witnessed things that would just make you shake your head. To name one a Minister of Finance lying and when found out saying it is OK if it makes people feel good. Then when the Cabinet is reshuffled he is still there and chosen to stay in the Finance Ministry. He lied about the money the government had and now the government is saying they have not paid the farmers because of the protestors who started two months after the money was due to the farmers. Simply unbelievable. They are like an inept three ring circus with a ring master who is deaf blind and can't speak.

That is just one of the small things this government is guilty of. In the last year alone they have raised the corruption level by 2%.

  14. The man is ranting, totally lost it.

"I'll pounce on any rally site when there is small number of protesters"

That's exactly their plan - classic Guerrilla tactics, draw in the "enemy" with their superior force to "oppose" you then simply fade away and disappear into the local environment.

Where this will end - with that Buffoon in charge - is anyones' guess.

    Patrick

I think that is a tactic he picked up when he was solving the problem in the south.

BANGKOK: -- Chalerm Yoobamrung, the director of the Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order, Monday threatened to crack down on rally sites where there are only a few protesters.

Can't put my finger on it but some thing sounds contradictory in that statement. Sounds more like a bullying statement. When you get small enough I will crack down on you. Right now I am just the representative for the whole government of Thailand.clap2.gif

  15. Just bring out the army already, do the traditional massacre on Ratchadamri or some other key point in central Bangkok and get it over with. Everyone knows this cycle will end that way. it always does.

    No way Briggsy,

    I have another cunning plan..............................................

    original.jpg

Why not have an early Songkran to get rind of "The Mob".

    original.jpg

    Win thumbsup.gif

I would go along with that idea if the leader would come out of hiding.

Instead she sends the court jester.cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

  16. Those vicious, wicked, mean and nasty PCAD fascist thugs at it again.

Its the fake PCAD facist thugs, quite obviously this ambush was undertaken by PTP forces to stir things up, and I wouldnt be suprised if Charlem ordered it..

Well I thought it was a good post but not good enough for an I like short supply of them.

But when you said you would not be surprised if Chalerm ordered it.

I knew you had hit gold. so I used an I like also.

With all the good posts coming out we should be allowed more I likes.wai.gif

  17. Keep strong PM good luck Yingluck

My heart goes out to her.

@ Yingluck; If I we ever meet, then I'll buy you a drink.

I am suspicious of your intentions.

When some body offers to buy a drink for a person with less than average intelligence that is good looking I get suspicious. Now if she had stopped the rice scam or raised the quality of education in the country or found a way to cut back on the traffic and related contamination to the atmosphere I would also offer her a drink.

  18. I have been here for over 20 years and was on the front line on the night of May 17 1992 when Thai security troops under the Suchinda government opened fire at protesters gathering at Sanam Luang.

I am so proud (then and now) to see the heart of the Thai people out on the streets farmers and all.

Expats....do your homework. Do just a little research and you will find a history of a man (Thaksin) who has been a hugely corrupt and an unscrupulous and greedy parasitic megalomaniac who will NEVER be able to steal enough money from this great country.

He is a convicted criminal who has siphoned billions upon billions of baht from the Thai people and now under his own sister has completely ruined the best quality and best producing rice industry in the world!

It is gone with Cambodia winning last years Best Jasmine rice in the world award and India and Vietnam's rice harvests both out producing Thailand.

They have ruined the country and totally divided the Thai people.

For God's sake! These poor rice farmers are the very people the Shinawatra's convinced to vote for them.

Yingluck doesn't even have the integrity or consideration to even show up to appease these poor farmers and Chalerm is running scared and half mad as he knows that if the Shinawatra Regime crashes his career and life is over and that includes his alleged murdering son.

The alleged murdering son comment is simply information taken from public domain (Google it!) and should not be omitted.

Wikipedia: Chalerm Yubamrung: In 2001 Duangchalerm was arraigned for the murder of a police officer. After deserting from the Army and fleeing to Malaysia, he returned and handed himself in. He was released from jail on bail terms in 2003, and finally acquitted as the court considered the evidence insufficient and the witnesses accounts contradictory.[

Notation: In Thailand the word contradictory is often a synonym for purchasable.

Yes, it does seem that you have to organize a band of corrupt thugs to become Prime Minister in Thailand but plundering the nations funds, ruining the country while turning Thai citizen against Thai citizen and then spitting on our King is just NOT in the cards folks.......it ain't gunna happen!

Yes, Suthep has his own allegations of a corrupt history......but which one of you would walk in his shoes today....for even a minute!

The man is and will go down historically as a super hero and servant to our King and the people of Siam......want to bet?

Stand up Khun Thai! Stand up every Thai farmer that gave their rice harvest and received nothing in return!

Fight this insanely evil piece of dung and through every generation of his family out with him as they have disgraced our King, our country and the very souls of our people.

Yes, I'm white but I'm no expat!

This is my home, my King and my brothers and sisters.

Fight on and drive the snakes out of the land!

A great piece of reality. It should be on the front page of every forign and Thai newspaper in thailand.

    I really liked

Yes, Suthep has his own allegations of a corrupt history......but which one of you would walk in his shoes today....for even a minute!

I was wondering which of us would even admit to some of the places are own shoes have walked. I know there are some dark spots in my life and they are real not allegations.

  19. Somebody should buy Yingluck a calender asap. She probably doesn't realize that October(when the money was due) is a few months before January(beginning of the protest). Can't really blame the pupet PM, it's a shocking failure of Kentucky State Uni to not teach the kids about months of the year.

I wonder what they would have to say about her if people started judging the quality of their institution by Yingluck.

What was her Major? I know it was not common sense.

Would not be a bit surprised if they could not find any reference to her in their records.wai.gif

  20. While i do not like Suthep all that much, I give him credit - he is out on the front lines, risking assassination, for his cause. He is not a coward running from water bottles, or cowering in his palace in Dubai. I hope he wins, on shear moxy alone...

You forgot he is also surrounded by 10-20 armed guards and a freverent devoted crowd of followers who have shown they will turn to violence even when it came to blocking civilian voters from polling places.
You can rant all you like, cause I don't have a dog in this fight - he's got more balls than Thaksin though

Sent from my iPhone using ThaiVisa app

Also 20 or 30 guards would be nothing for a black shirt. You might say he has brass balls. A quantity completely lacking in this country when it comes to standing up and facing corruption and it's practitioners.

    Where is the Prime Minister?

She seems to be pretty busy hiding from farmers and appointing the national laughing stock not sure what you call an ear medicine addict Chalerm to take care of things.

any one seen or heard from Thaksin lately. last I heard he and his ex were in Myanmar suck holing at temples for Buddha to get them out of this. wai.gif

  21. Why wasn't Suthep agitating for anti-corruption democratic reform when the Democrat party was buying votes in Hat Yai? Why wasn't Suthep agitating for anti-corruption democratic reform after the Democrat government was brought down when Suthep himself handed out prime land to Democrat supporters on Phuket? Why wasn't Suthep agitating for anti-corruption democratic reform after he was disqualified from office for, well, corruption?

Why wasn't Suthep agitating for anti-corruption democratic reform when the Electoral Commission recommended that the Democrat party be dissolved for egregious and continual corruption?

Could it be Suthep cares less about corruption and a pristine state of democracy and more about getting around that tricky problem of losing election after election after election. If democracy gives you the wrong result, the answer seems to be get rid of democracy. Very high-minded.

Fill in your own answers your not interested in the truth any how.

The point is he is doing it now.

What are you doing about it except trying to denigrate him?facepalm.gif
