  1. Calm down. It might get interesting, but it isn't going to get any more restrictive

The immigration and investment laws are about as restrictive as they could be and no one got seriously put off yet.

You have to give away 51% of your company and get treated like a pariah by immigration already. How bad could it get?

Give away 75% and have to employ 20 thais to get your work.permit?

I am confused now. I thought you could only own 49% of the company. How is it you came to own all of it. You had to in order to give 51% away.

It must be a very lucrative thing for you or you would not have brought it to this country.facepalm.gif

  2. So who is a "farmer"

This media thing would have you believe there is an angry rice farmer uprising in their ongoing anti/UDD/RS/PTP campaign.

This magnification of Kitirat running for his life from so-called rice farmers obscures the fact these were coup-monger protesters, some of whom are probably rice farmers, whose actions would be predictable.

Trying to make out that coup-monger elements are generic rice farmers is media agenda, pure and simple, out to embarras the Govt. and its' millions of voter-support.

It stands to reason that the majority electorate behind the Govt. are not about to attack in the manner described in this article.

According to what I am hearing from the other side...namely the UDD/RS/PTP.

Always good to hear both sides, right!

Are you saying the farmers are fake, and utimately the real farmers have no cause to be upset?

In this case the other side being the Bangkok Post are saying the same thing.

It is unanimous the rice farmers were attacking the finance minister by throwing things at him. These articles were printed by eye witnesses not people sitting in a room theorizing. Or trying to save face by lying Which the Prime Minister OKed when she reappointed the lying Finance Minister.

  3. Wanting a government to resign is not a Coup d'Etat.

In many cases of governments resigning early in parliamentary style democracies,

it has been the public or ' the street ' telling a government their policies and actions are a failure.

This happens in many parliamentary democracies, and has for hundreds of years when the governments have dropped the ball so badly, or mismanaged fundamentals so badly, or blatantly stolen from the people so greatly, that the people, or a suitably large segment of "The People" rises up to dismiss them. How large and how enraged that segment maybe is dependent on the individual national or regional situation.

A Coup d'Etat is when and army, or armed group, physically removes, arrests, and/or executes the countries leader, whether they be elected or not. Throwing out the supposed epitaph " Coup-Monger " is counter productive to actually getting a dialog between parties in disagreement. One can assume that coming to an agreement is not the goal, but to incite further division and create us against them partisanship and hopefully a winning position.

In this case baldfaced lying to the people you are sent to negotiate with, and doing so when they KNOW it is stonewalling and lies, will illicit a very negative response, as Khun Kitty rat has just encountered. When people are down to their last baht they will be more than a little intolerant of being bullshitted by those that owe them, whether a government functionary, policy maker of Somchai at the local market who borrowed 100 baht last month and refuses to pay it back.

No doubt telling them a NEW registration process, for vouchers already registered and having a value unredeemable was a final straw and a truly stupid move to attempt.

I might add that in Canada they had a pattern of seeing the end coming and calling for a reelection while they still had the power to win and start over again. I believe they have now made it illegal to do that. the Prime Minister may step down but there will not be a new election. Parliament will just elect a new Prime Minister. Not sure if it is every 4 or 5 years that the elections are held.

  4. 'Wet-wash' instead of 'white-wash' ? whistling.gif

And just imagine the conversation, inside their hideout, between the caretaker-PM & her caretaker-Finance Minister, beforehand,

"I'm not going out there, they're revolting !"

    "Who's Prime Minister ? I say you go !"

"But I haven't got any money to give them !"

"Tough luck, and put on your water-proofs, before you go !" laugh.png

I don't see why he had such a problem he had plenty of time to make up a lie so they would feel good.

I think it is time to give Thaksin a free pass back into the country so he can personally tell them all that if they give him six months he will make them rich.

He will make them so rich that designer water will flow like Niagara falls. His paid army of red shirts will believe him but the farmers and the rest of the nation will just laugh at him.tongue.png

On the serious side when this is all over and done with does any one think the PTP members who have openly supported this with their silence will be able to walk with there heads held high?

The best chance they have now to save face is to openly denounce the Shinawatra clan and support the protestors.wai.gif

  5. Angry farmers want caretaker PM to explain rice payment delay

    13926192572131-640x390x2.jpg

BANGKOK, Feb 17 – Disgruntled farmers stormed into the compound of Thailand's defence headquarters on Chaeng Wattana Road this morning, demanding that caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra tell them directly when they would receive their overdue payments from the rice pledging scheme.

Ms Yingluck has been working at the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Defence since Government House was seized by anti-government protesters.

At the Commerce Ministry, another group of farmers continued demonstrating for almost 10 days after failed negotiations with caretaker Deputy Prime Minister/Commerce Minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisarn and senior ministry officials.

At the Defence headquarters, farmers broke through wire and cement barricades into the premise at around midday, calling on the prime minister to personally meet and talk to them instead of assigning Cabinet members to the negotiation table.

Prasit Boonchouy, leader of the Thai Rice Farmers Association, said he was promised by a high-level official that the government would pay farmers within 45 days.

Farmers said they would immediately return home after receiving their money, said Mr Prasit, who represents farmers from Ratchaburi, Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Pathom and Phetchaburi.

However, another group of farmers said they would not wait that long and decided to move to the Defence HQ. The group was led by Rawee Rungruang, leader of the Western Rice Farmers Centre, and Kittisak Rattanavaraha, leader of the Northern Farmers Group.

Meanwhile, employee union leaders of the Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) met with the bank's management this morning, demanding that the Finance Ministry guarantees borrowing from the Government Savings Bank to pay farmers.

The labour union called on the Commerce Ministry to urgently sell rice in the state stockpiles and the BAAC to refrain from using people’s deposits for the rice payments.

In the rice-producing province of Phichit, farmers crowded all 14 BAAC branches to receive payments after money was transferred from the Finance Ministry to the bank today.

In Lop Buri province, only 12 out of the more than 1,000 farmers received their payments, totalling Bt1.25 million, this morning. (MCOT online news)

At the Defence headquarters, farmers broke through wire and cement barricades into the premise at around midday, calling on the prime minister to personally meet and talk to them instead of assigning Cabinet members to the negotiation table.

things are bad enough now. But by herself at a negotiating table things would get a lot worse.

Dear farmers, you don't need an explanation from Poo and her brother's cronies because the answer is simple why your payments have been delayed. You've been lied to again. Simple as that. How many more times are you going to allow this corrupt government lie to you?

Won't be long and they will be telling them their checks are in Dubai and can be picked up there just as soon as Thaksin goes to Hong Kong.

One of these days Chalerm is going to come charging in on his ear medicine cloud and proudly announce to the farmers he will have it all cleared up in 90 days. Then he will proceed to tell them of his success in cleaning up the mess in the south.

    Edit

Sorry about the comedy in my posts or attempt at it. But it is just so funny to watch them and listen to them as the country starts to unite in one body opposing them. Still they think they are the savior's of the nation.

  6. PM Yingluck arrives at Office of Defense Permanent Secretary

BANGKOK, 17 February 2014 (NNT) – Prime Minister and Defense Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has arrived at the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Defense amid tight security.

As soon as she arrived at the office in Chaeng Wattana, Miss Yingluck went straight into the building without giving any comments. The Premier was previously scheduled to carry out her duty at the Government House, but as it was surrounded by a number of protesters, she had to change her plan and hold a meeting in Chaeng Wattana instead.

Meanwhile, it is reported that a group of farmers led by President of the Western Rice Community Association Rawee Roongrueng is heading towards the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Defense, demanding to see the prime minister and asking for clarification on the rice payments.

The police are, however, securing the building to prevent invasion and unexpected incidents.

Just a complete disregard for the people she is supposed to Govern for. The Skype bill is probably starting to add up. this government is just one big comedy show. I see where the protesters were throwing things at Kittiratt as he tried to explain why they weren't paid yet. He should have told them a little white lie to make them feel good. It is an action that Yingluck sanctioned. He could have said I have good news for you all your check's are in the mail.

I wonder how long before members of the PTP start resigning and joining other parties.wai.gif

  7. Riiiiight! Wasn't it supposed to be last weekend? Come on, stop making promises you can't keep, you'll just up with more egg in your face.

I'm surprised it isn't Chalerm making this empty threat. clap2.gif

He may have wrote it just had trouble standing up to deliver it.

Headlines say by Feb.19 article says by the end of the week that is the 22.

This is a tough one normally you could just brush it off as standard operating procedure for the Nation.

But with Chalerm involved it is a whole new ball game.

A three ring circus being reported by the Nation. Would be nice if they were both traveling shows.guitar.gif

  8. The Democrat Party is not part of the government. Why are they owed an explanation about the rice scheme? The rice farmers are the party to this dispute and it is the farmers to whom the government owes an explanation.

Well it is like this. the government is supposed to be open with all their dealings and bee accountable to all citizens be they Democrats poor farmers or dumb posters. It is there responsibility. I understand it is not red shirt democracy but that is just to bad live with it.

The Democrat Party is not part of the government. Why are they owed an explanation about the rice scheme? The rice farmers are the party to this dispute and it is the farmers to whom the government owes an explanation.

They are Thai citizens, they, like every other citizen are entitled to an explanation from these rip-off artists, that have no regard for any law.

Ah, so they are just asking as concerned citizens, nothing to do with exploiting the political situation at all.

I'm glad they have at last embraced the rice farmers interests as their own.

Why, it doesn't seem all that long ago they regarded them as illiterate peasants and red buffalos.

    Plus ca change.

You obviously have no idea of what went on in the house sessions. So I thought I would reply to you along with another poster who thinks like you. Birds of a feather and all that.

How low does the Shinawatra's have to take Thailand before you decide they are not good for Thailand?

  9. What run? almost as much money was deposited from what was withdrawn, as 80 withdrawal were fairly large as the rich playing with their money but the little man made up for the money the rich withdrew.

Why would the government want that dirty money in their bank anyway.

    Cheers

If it was in your pocket you would be running right down the street to give it to Yingluck?

  10. Isn't this the same one who stated she didn't believe in "one person, one vote"?

Interesting view if she wants to be PM someday - hope she grows out of it.

I can understand her perspective. For democracy to work there has to be a reasonably educated and informed population.

The kind of people who won't sell their vote, or vote for someone who is clearly not interested in the needs of the people, with policies which will totally destroy the economy.

This is clearly not the case in Thailand and if you give every adult a vote, you may as well let children vote too because they are probably just as educated and possibly as informed.

Education is needed on democracy before it can be implemented effectively.

Her comment about Issan is harsh but true, and sometimes the truth hurts. Maybe there is hope after all.

This sort of reasoning was once (shamefully) used in the UK to suppress supposed "inferior women" (who could not think for themselves), when women were not allowed to vote fully until 1928 (resisted by the "superior" Men).

From 1918-1928, women could vote if they were 30 years old and if they met "property qualifications" or if they were graduates of UK universities.

In 1928, when all adult women were allowed to vote (without nonsensical age restrictions nor "property qualifications" nor educational hurdles), was the UK thrown into chaos?

Similarly, in South Africa, Blacks were not able to vote until 1994 (resisted by the "superior" Whites). After that, it can be argued that S.A. suffered in some areas, but universal equality for all of its citizens was achieved.

And the poor blacks (the majority) finally got the attention that they deserved from their representatives.

Not letting women (resisted by the "superior" Men) or Blacks (resisted by the "superior" Whites) or poor Thai farmers (resisted by the "superior" HiSo Elites) participate in Democracy is patently morally wrong, wrong, wrong.

Tenuous connections. The people you mention fought for their votes, deserved them, and didn't abuse or sell them once they had them.

Anyway, what's your big idea to get Thailand out of this mess?

Bring Thaksin back, he'd surely eradicate poverty in 6 months, and we'd all live happily ever after?

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

It's like having your cake and eating it can't happen in the foreseeable future.

To have a democracy every one should have a vote. coffee1.gif

To make it a viable democracy every one should know what it is all about.sad.png

  11. This takes delusional to a whole new level. Stunning arrogance. She is better suited to her previous role: handing out free calendars featuring nude women promoting Singha beer. An RP accent does not substitute for a brain

Well what you say may be true.

The really sad part about the whole thing is she is more qualified than any one in the PTP.

  12. But he said he found it unacceptable that Suthep had broken his promise by holding a rally at the Government House

and Suthep said he found it unacceptable that Chalerm had broken his promise to have his own head cut off

Now that is funny. Unfortunately for Thailand he didn't do it.

On the other hand the free entertainment is worth a little bit.

    Happened before.

    Police - Army

The people stood aside and applauded.......the army

few soft in the head bkk people applauded. the north rose up and eventually got back into power... as they would again.

    BKK is not Thailand.

and look at the wonderful job they are doing. A group of them have been trying to break in to see the Prime Minister and Secretary of Defense and explain to her that when she buys some thing she is supposed to pay for it. Maybe they should have taken a pad from the school in so they could show her how commerce works at the very elementary basis. Not sure if the pads could do such a complicated thing. Or for that matter if she could under stand it.

  13. Probably a tourist on a rented scooter, probably already gone.

I hope the cars were undamaged paint/panel wise. I hate to see completely innocent people out of pocket due to a hit and run.

The victim should have been going slow enough to be able to stop. The number one rule of lane splitting/filtering, especially when there are lane splitters in the lane parallel to you too.

That said the lunatic was greatly in the wrong.

It didn't look like the drivers of the two vehicles even got out to have a look at the cars.

  14. When my first marriage was annulled, the inlaws made sure my exwife did not get the kids, They looked after them like their own, it was a hard time for me, the first 2 years with no id card or british passport so I was confined to Germany , I corresponded with the inlaws and children by snail mail through a teacher at a nearbye school, they never asked for a single satang, that was from 66 to 68, the marvellous relationship continues today 45 years later, my children have grandchildren, most of them earn more than me , when my 3rd wife and I visit the village we are both treated like celebrities, for my 65th birthday I was given a 5baht gold chain by my thai family, goes to showit isn't all sick buffaloes and atms!!wai.gif

Glad thing worked out for you.

But for OP, thing has not been kind to him in that regard. My advice to OP is be a bigger person, forgive and forget what was done in the past, move forward, and make nice with his in laws so that he can have peace and be at ease with himself. Karma is big in Thailand. What you give out is what you will get.

That is exactly what I have been asking through this whole thread. What did he do to get this?

It was like going out and talking to a telephone pole.

All he gives is how smart he is and how children should have their father.

Not one single reason why he should be the provider if in deed he is giving them any money. For all we know he is not and the mother is sending money back to the sister in law to help defer the expenses. He has not mentioned that either. Until one knows the whole story both sides one can not make a judgement but the flat out refusal to give any reason for him to have them just because he is the father. Not buying it.

I have seen to many cases just like his where the children where better off with the father on the other side of the planet. Also the same goes for mothers. They can be just as bad a parent as a father. I even knew one fellow personally who had a mother that sexually abused him by making him sleep with her when he was just coming into puberty. 20 years later he was still having problems with it.

I am not accusing him of any thing but I notice the son has no problem with him it is just the girls.

I will not post here again as I know a dead end when I see it. He gives no facts and people feel sorry for him. When if the truth was really known they might feel he doesn't deserve them. As I said in my earlier post I was man enough to look art my part in it and regain the love of my children by me doing the changing.

  15. Chalerm's buttons have most definitely been pushed. This is an enormous embarrassment for him, as he guaranteed since last week that Government House would be open today. And with Suthep's call for Chalerm personally to come out and oversee it has clearly rustled Chalerm's sense of pride, showing him to be a man with more bluster than bravado. Indeed, if Chalerm loses it, the army will step in. There is no way that an attack on the protesters is going to look anything other than terrible for this administration. And any violent move on them will only inspire stronger resistance in other parts of the city and country. In a way, it's a moot point, because Government House is not going to give Yingluck her administration back. She has no parliamentary backing and is stripped of legislative power. There is nothing for her to do there apart from playing Solitaire. But what this is about now is symbolism. To Chalerm, to Surapong, to Pheu Thai, to Thaksin - appearances are everything at this point. And without the appearance of power, they lose the optics and the spin.

She might have borrowed a disguise from Chalerm and be out shopping.wai.gifsorry.gif

  16. Chalerm cannot do anything against the protesters as a few tanks move from Chiang Wattana to government house. The army will protect the protesters if police attack them. Yet another blooper by the guy. He's an embarrassement.

"The army will protect the protesters if police attack them"

Thus bringing about a civil war in Thailand, hope that makes you happy!!!!

Democratically elected Police State or Army control. Take your pick.

Well looking in on it from the outside the same as most Farongs that are not involved in business with the government I would take the Army.

the last time they had it they made some improvements in the constitution. Not as clear as they could be and with out teeth in some of the law breaking but over all not a bad constitution. Then they had an election.

With the Democratically elected Police State Thailand will just continue to slide down hill.

  17. I'll donate a bottle of whiskey to the first Thaivisa member to post an original video of Chalerm pouncing on protesters.

It'll be a cheap bottle, of course.

    Make that 2 bottles

Cheapskates I will add 750 baht to each bottle.tongue.png

some one better tell him to hurry up according to News Asia. The farmers are climbing over the barricades to get in to Yingluck and make her faces them and explain why she took all their rice and said she would give them money for it and then didn't.

Maybe they are carrying farm tools for weapons. Chalerm could always put on his disguise that he was going to wear when he was going to arrest Suthep.

I am beginning to think he is a bigger buffoon than Jutuporn.

Not sure on the spelling but my spellchecker says stupor. Good description for both of them. 600 years ago they would have been highly prized as court jester's.burp.gif

  18. The DOWNUNDER PUB is a very good bar/sports bar that shows racing/matches etc, and serves good "pub grub".On the right hand side of Loi Kroh road just before the "Iron Bridge"/Ping River. Always a friendly welcome and a good mix of people.Owner = Stewart.

Never been in it but walked by it often. Not a bit unusual for some one sitting by the window or outside smoking to say hello as I walk by. Seems very friendly to me. But I am not a European sports fan as most of them seem to be. If there is a match on they will have it playing. Also has a pool table. Can't say as to the condition of it.

  19. Sounds reasonable.

Would you be upset if instead they asked you to provide references and a credit check.

My tenants have to do that and when an agent is involved that particular fee is for exactly that.

People don't work for free you know....its 1000bt for god sake, go with the flow.

I wouldn't be upset, I'd leave and find another place, there's plenty to choose from.

I don't understand your point, work for free? Who are we talking about here, the girl in reception?

It's the principle, 1,000 baht for what exactly?

It could be a holding deposit... let's hope that's all it is.... and again, it's not about the money, I just don't like being scammed, who does?

    I don't

But then again if it had what I want and the location was right with a decent monthly rate. I would have 1,000 baht on the table so fast it would make your head spin.

Of course I am more concerned with my comfort a lot of the time. To old to suffer standing up for my rights on such a petty matter.

If I didn't like it I would just walk away and find what I do like.smile.png

  20. The last line is

"This is not politically inspired in any way"

Hog wash if it wasn't for the current political situation you wouldn't have posted it.

As far as I am concerned it will make no difference to me. I am a retiree which means I am bringing in over 65,000 baht a month and I have the papers to prove it. It works out to ballpark $26,000 a year and that is just the minimum. My papers show a lot more than that. I have been here for 8 years.

The government will not be that concerned with me. How ever at $20,000 a year they may as they do pick up on medical bills from some in that category. I would look for a tightening up in that area no matter who wins and rightly so.

Of course there are those who don't want us here. But I do not believe it makes a rat's ass difference to most of the Thai's.

Kind of like when they build a huge Mosque here in Chiang Mai area. A friend of mine went and watched therm every day for about three hours. He had a walker that he could sit in. A lot of the workers were Muslims and I asked him if they excepted him and he said about two or three didn't but the rest either didn't care or became friends with him. He knew about some of the problems they had at home and they gladly explained what they were doing as he had been a white collar worker all his life.

What do I see for the future Higher prices the same as in the rest of the world and a tightening up on medical. The rest same same. Maybe in ten years they may ask for proof of more income. Hopefully eliminate the 90 day reporting in order to streamline immigration.

Reminds me of when I was living in Vancouver Canada and we had a large influx of Chinese and Indians. We used to complain about them why don't they learn English and the way they drive and other things about their culture. Yet we never said they should go back to where they came from. In that point we accepted them.

What would happen if we pulled out all are investments in the country and the day to day living expenses. No big deal they would go back to there old Thai culture which worked very well for them. It is only are influence telling them it is wrong they should all have a house, a car, a fancy phone and TV', computers and all the rest of the things we consider part of the western culture. That we who live here in Thailand have turned are back on and rather than go back to it we change them to be like us. I will be long dead before it is done and in the mean time I am going to enjoy the difference.

I guess you have figured out now that I do not suffer under a persecution complex.

  21. Does anyone know if to do an over the counter withdrawal with my Canadian ATM card if the card needs to be a visa/debit card? Tried to do one yesterday and the teller said they could not contact my bank….sad.png That was at SCB in Central Fes.

They have never taken my ATM card inside the bank just my Visa card. I use SCB also. I can foresee it being different at different banks.

All so it might just depend on the teller.
