Yes why not, more quality with local manpower., but it would depend perhaps on which type of jobs? Some jobs not requiring qualifications were perfectly well fit with the migrants, but on the other hand people can be taught and learn fast. But if prices raise, it may not benefit the local community economies in populated areas, as customers would tend to either do the job themselves or to push the research for the cheapest labour, deeper into the country.

Nevertheless,  better have some good negotiating skills as a farang dealing with Thai contractors/sales persons etc......just my opinion from a bit of experience here and there!

That prices rises does not benefit the local community, but it fits the 'Elites" very well. Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only one who see it, it is going for many years. Put them all into consumers by granting them cheap (so they're told), buy sxxt they don't need, increase the household depts, until they got the last rai. Just wonder if they were thinking, who can buy something in Nokhon Nowhere, when they milked the cow already. In 20 years the Thais will not seek construction in Bahrain or Saudia Arabia, but in Cambodia or Myamar, and yes they deserve it because of their ignorance.

Whatever the new rules turn out, if...if  anybody is to be fined or punished,  it must be the employer and not the illegal migrant...

Then why hire illegal migrants? Why not take locals?....To reduce costs and pay them less, naturally, what else?...But in that case, it's unfair for the local manpower claiming higher wages?...Of course it is....but will you accept to pay a higher price for equivalent expertise, for your plumber or gardner for instance?...of course, I won't!!!!

Agree, and it seems this time they really focus on the employers what is correct, rather to but all the blame on the migrants. Wondering how all this schools want get away with this, probably tuitions will go up for your kids.

On the second note, why not hire local, it's probably more about reliability and/or quality than the wages.

  3. How many stops are supposed to be between, just wondering ?

Took the Bus yesterday from C. SAEN to BKK, shortly after Payao we hit already the 6th Roadblock incl. Passport/ID control, and that's not even 2/3 of the HS rail track. After all this is Thailand, so at the end you'll have several stops where the food vendors can roam through the waggons and your Passports are checked (by people who can't read them anyway). So the trip might be closer to 3-4 hours, or maybe I'm just sarcastic :sorry:

The thing is that when it unravels the current folks will be long gone, although new ones may be waiting in the wings and someone else will have to deal with it. In the end the taxpayers will bail them out, thats the way it usually works.

Would make me wonder if I see that ever running, and I didn't turn 50 yet.

As long money is flowing there will be progress.

I wish the Chinese would have build motorways in my homecountry, pretty sure it wouldn't have taken 30 years for just 8 km.

The prick in the Mercedes is to blame. THe other drive whilst should have moved into the left hand lane when not overtaking did move over for the Merc to come past. Another case of someone who, as the Germans put it, drives a butchers car thinking he or she owns the road.

With the dash cam they should have the cars registration and should go to the police and charge the guy with dangerous driving and make him pay for all the damage.

There again things dont work like that in Thailand

Well, I tried to read the cars registration, I don't see much at all, and I put it on 720HD. Either this guy bought a shitty dash cam, or they fogged it out because of the stupid defamation law, aka "I can drive like a moron, but if you say so I'll sue you" BS

  6. I did reservations for my METV last year on Agoda, which later I cancelled. I had bookings for 4-5 months in 2 week blocks. Worked for them, but I wonder if anyone in his clear mind (even in Thailand) believes that anyone books his hotels 5 months in advance.

BTW, let us know how it went. Do you go in person, or are you using a "Agent" from another place than Manila? I might be in the same position next year.

I have my Platinum Visa card where travel insurance is as a part of other insurance. So....it will cause me a trouble to get it on paper from my bank or insurer...for every time i will travel to Thailand? Otherwise how I can prove i have travel and health insurance.....??....Just pain in a bum.

I hope that they come to senses...If Thai hospitals struggle now how they will cope with probably more people...?

I used to have such card as well, the policy, I could download from my bank website. However, it was only valid for travels abroad 3 months at a time.

Business visa and Work Permit are both required. You may think you are under the radar, but you will be wanting to receive payment from someone, be it the commission from a factory or the payment for the goods. If the payments were made by cash then maybe you could fly under the radar, but I can tell you I have left money with factories rather than allow them to make a transfer into my bank account since I changed from biz visa and WP, to now be here on a Non RE extention

Yes, but the OP stated to "export" to the US and EU. I believe in that case he would have bank accounts in both locations, rather than get money transferred into a Thai bank account. Also a quite unclear definition about "export". Does the OP want to deal with Thai companies, or just picking some Shirts at the local market and sell them on Ebay.

  9. I did end up in a low cost carrier  (had to spend up my miles) which leaves 6:20am, did never leave around that time, so I expect mostly everything still closed around that time. Would be interested in the Asia book store in particular, as they were the only ones, to my knowledge, with some cans of soft drinks or beer for a decent price. Or if there are other ones let me know.

I guess it's maybe better to spend the time somewhere in the streets rather than in an empty airport, so getting a taxi somwhere between 3 and 4 should be within reason. Or are there any better recommodations?

The people I read about who were asked about the money were either Indians or farangs with many visa runs, over stays.......

When you fly from Europe, North America or Australia to BKK, they know that 20000 Baht would be for too many visitors a 2 day budget, sometimes a day budget, maybe 3 days..... they would not ask about the money at all.... They know that only your ticket costs probably that kind of money or more.....

    So no worries fellows

Until the day the quata has to be fullfilled.

Don't think the airline companies will agree with that. Too much paperwork. Checking a visa and onward flight is easy compared to reading insurance documents

And even with a simple task like visa checking they struggle quite often. How many countries you get 15 or 30 days visa exempt. But for example you going for work you'll need a visa, how the heck would check-in staff now. Happend to me more than once that I was asked for a visa when I didn't need one, and was not asked when I clearly (not for them) needed one.

  12. Well, latest reports say that a visa card or a bank book a.s.o. is not enough. In fact there were at least on case that entry was refused because of no funds, a walk to the Atm was not offered, Asfaik, not from India or thelike. Guess, a quota had to be fullfilled that day.

I find it utter nonsense to travel out of the country with +20K just to have them on you when returning. But then again, you have to deal with utter nonsense on a daily basis, so that might be alright.

What is actually the (legal) amount you can bring out of the country without declaring? Was that 50K?

Just thinking, I might take 20K for myself and 3x 10K for my visitors, and I hit already the limit.

The most dangerous part of visiting Thailand may be the Thai police! In addition, all of the efforts listed to make Thailand safer in this article are reactive, not preventive.

Come on, I just brought my dog to a policeman for the few days I'm in BKK

I have to grin when his wife struggles with the bills at the end of the month, complaining that every policeman but him take bribes. He might just be too lazy to step outside the office...:shock1:

BTW, they (goverment) just said, the survey is based on outdated data, so Thailand is safe, let's move on!

So no letter from employer, or co reg doc or Self assessment was required?

I put "retirement" in my last application, they did me change it to "unemployed" as I'm not receiving anything from my governement. As long you have enough into your account(s) for the last 6 months, you should be ok. Although I don't like the word "unemployed", at least in the western world it sounds always as you're a burden to your governement, which I'm not.......yet!

Yup, it's the luck of the draw with the police. I have met great cops that do their job and not trying to extort money out of you, but then I have met cops that will make things up to extort money out of you.   I do feel safe in Thailand. Some cities in the USA (Detroit, Chicago) are way more dangerous than Bangkok.

Yeah, the worst thing what could possibly happen in Chicago is running into the Bundys! :sleepy:

From those 2 pics that's a pretty shithouse looking hotel. Is the price like 600 baht a night?

    442 from Agoda

Besides that issue with the shower it's far better than the place I used to stay @ 890.

This is the other side of the river, (Thonburi) and all what matters that I'm within reasonable walking distance to my friends place(s), and public transport.

Unfortunately not lower Suk or KhaoSan Rd. Where you get a hotel every 50m.
