Show the bodies with heads missing , brains splattered etc . This might WAKE  up Thai motorists to reality. In turn may stimulate the cops to pull their finger out!

Well, they do it on cigarette packages, and donno where else, you might just print those pics on front and back of you driving license.....if you got one after all.

Regretfully it does not give phone numbers and exact boarding locations of both ends. Another question is, if the routing is from Nan via Huay Khon/Muang Ngern, Hongsa to Xayabouly or Nan via Pudu, Pak Lay to Xayabouly.

Quite sure it's not PPudu, or got they meanwhile VoA ?

  3. Just in on my second METV, no questions asked @ immigration, had over 20K in cash on me, one bank statement from april, where I wired 4000€ to my BB account. Could have been used for crosschecking, a hotel booking and a cheap AA flight to PNH, but as mentioned already, no questions asked.

As the name says it already METV is designed for multiple entries. As I stay quite close to the Lao border, it would make sense to hopp over from time to time to get some nice Beer Lao. I wonder what'll happen when I'll go every 2 weeks or so? Would that not trigger very quickly their alarm screens in immigration database? Could be wiser to wait until I get close to my 2 months deadline instead?

If you have any long-stay history in Thailand in the last year or two, you might be questioned.  It is highly unlikely you would be rejected-entry with an METV and 20K Baht worth of cash or travelers checks.  Additional factors leading to being rejected-entry include the IO's mood, if they have already caught their quota of rejects for the shift, and other unknown factors.  You can mitigate the odds of rejection, if questioned at all, with additional paperwork.

I would not buy a throw-away ticket coming in with an METV, but I would have a ready-explanation of exactly what my plans were in Thailand (itinerary - printed even better) including how, where, and when I was planning to leave.  Also, good to have proof of where one plans to stay (hotel booking - free), and some printed bank-statements showing you have a bunch of money, so do not need to work illegally.

If avoiding the airports and the one bad land-border (Poipet/Aranyaprathet), all you would ever need is maybe the 20K Baht worth of cash or travelers checks.  But if flying in, even though you probably won't even be questioned at all, I would still carry all of that to be safe.

If detained, your luggage would also be detained.  If sent back where you flew from, your luggage will go with you.  Hopefully it was a short-hop from a neighboring country, so you could just come across by land and still enjoy your planned trip to Thailand.

Be sure to let the IO who takes you to your holding-cell at the airport know you have luggage - they may need the claim-tag to identify/fetch it.

Thanks mate, seems I'll print out at leasr those bank statements where I wired money inti my BB account, and on some other occasion withdraw money with a foreign CC on a Thai bank account.

The ticket I had to buy anyway because of the METV application.

I fly in with my Thai GF, in worst case I guess it's better for her to take care of any luggage.

  5. What makes me a bit wonder is that they had a departure stamp in their passports.

When I remember well, there were also discussions here on TV, that you could get denied entry.

So in this case it looks more like a deportation?? Or what I'm getting wrong here?

I'm flying in on Sunday, equipped with an METV, have a bit over 20K bath on me, should I bring any more papers like onward travel (AA flight to PNH, which I'll probably never use) hotel bookings, bank statements?

Assumed someone get's denied entry, he'll stay in the transit area. How to acess the luggage which is after immigration?

  6. Hi all, was a bit surprised that a search in the Forum didn't return any results nor did auntie google ( at least none of them helpful).

I'm looking for some massage shops that offer Ashiatsu massage (massage by feet) on their menu. I'm aware that you can inquire at any shop, and most if not all would offer it, but I would prefer if they offer it straight right away, as they might be better equipped for it. There are some shops in lower Suk, but they cater rather for foot fetishists with usually young and unskilled girls and highly overpriced. I was more after some more traditional venue.

You might not be allowed to board the flight if you have no visa and no onward flight out of Thailand within 30 days.

A single entry tourist visa could be applied for in Vientiane.

I guess I've been luck then in the past. My tickets always go out of BKk, means on the return trip I had no onward ticket, never was asked neither from an airline nor from immigration. Ok the climate has changed and at least for the METV you'll need a ticket anyway.

As for the OP, if still 50 days before the travel, I would wait b4 METV at least my visa started when I dropped the paperwork, which is utter nonsense, they require a ticket into Thailand, so why not put that date on?

  8. Maybe a bit off topic, but the hardcore Uber users might know.

First.I can't see a fixed rate. I took so far only two rides with Uber, and the app quotes a price from -to, so not sure what the price is.

My first ride was very very pleasant, I orderd the cheap ride from Thonburi to MoChit, and they send an SUV the fare was an incredibly low 222 bath, and the driver paid the toll. Hell, I was surprised. And might that have been a promotional rate ,for first timer ??

My second ride was over 300 to Mochit as wel, from Sala Daeng, much shorter distance, small car ( as ordered, clean) but I had to pay the toll myself.

Now I wonder what is policy ? Was the thirst driver ignorant and lost money, or the second one a ripp-off?

Btw, I came today from Mo Chit to Thonburi with a regular Taxi was close to 450, he drove off where he thought was the destination told by a Thai. But I don't blame him, Thais can speak for 10 min, and still don't know where to go.

  9. The thread has been deviated much towards the Digital Nomads, but as they live/work still in a grey zone let's leave them alone.

What I find shocking is actually what our Thai partners (not all, but a majority) know about all of this. How many times did I hear, you can do this or that, they are absolutely clueless. But what you expect from people who just finished primary school and call 9th grade university.

Jethro69, you are absolutely right. Digital nomads work everywhere where they are, mostly for companies in their home country. And they never ever will ask a government if they allow this. I worked always on my travels and I never asked a government for a work permit. I worked for companies in my home country, so this has not to care the country where I spend money as a tourist.

I was more referring to the Thai thinking arrived in the modern world raher than to DN, no worries...
