How long were you in hospital? How much were you out of pocket? If the insurance company accepted your claim..then no problem...All good.

    A. 1 night, not 100% necessary, but would get out at midnight to check into a cheap hotel if you don't have transport available? I doubt, insurance covered the room. They wouln't have let me out anyway without leaving a hefty deposit.

    B. 350 bath, the bill quoted "others" ???

    C. Yes an no, the pricing is even higher than in the west, what happens if you need to go a second time in, and your policy is used up because, the charged you 5 times what would have been normal.

TiT, whatever way they'll do it, it will be a <deleted>, there will be many profiteers along the way, but it will not be the one who bought the insurance.

Sure, but they (?) want to make it compulsary for Thailand. How are they going to check the fine print (what are the exeptions)?

I can't even understand the fine print in MY language....

If this would be enforced, it would only be a money maker for immigration officials and / or Thai insurance companies.

The hospitals checking that for you b4 they do any move, and once they learn your covered, they gonna milk the insurance company like there is no tomorrow.

After a scooter crash last year, I got first patched up in the local governement hospital, 730 bath, including 2 x-rays.

The same bill in the insuranced covered hospital run into 22000, they did nothing more than redo the patches, and put an displaced finger back in place. And on the top they put a to tight cast on which gets only better after almost a year.

  3. Well, I stay far away from any gogo in general, that's why I was asking if the twins were still around. The only other place in Cowboy I show up is the Country road, and that's usually only during their happy hours. Usually the stuff askes me if I want some more shortly b4 HH ends and I oblige, but around 10 I'm out.

the twins bars are still there.  crazy house is closer to soi cowboy than the twins bars.

Thanks mate, I guess the larger one of the two has become anyway something like an billard hall open to the street when I remember well. Maybe jump in next month, b4 they've gone too.

  5. Haven't been in Cowboy for at least 2 years now. I just saw on google maps a gogo called crazy house. Look the reviews there, and decide if it's for you.

It looks to me like it's on the same place where the 2 "Siamese twin" bars were located. Have both of the Siamese twin bars gone, or is the shabby smaller one still there?

  6. I'm not a big friend of caves generally, so I don't know exactly where the mouth of that cave is, but I know where Doi Phamee is. Given that the whole cave system is over 10 Km, it could reach even far into Burma territory, however, from the maps I saw, I couldn't figure in which directions the cave is spreading.

If relations are so good why doesnt Thailand return the emerald buddha to Laos  and  stop throwing Burmese

fisherman off Thai trawlers miles from land.

Can't think of many stable leaders in the world nowadays! :saai:

The other is a money issue, who would pay entry fees for see an empty temple.

  8. Took that ride from Talat Phlu to Morchit bus station yesterday. Quote of 231 bath, same as with Uber b4. The big difference is the toll fees, which were included with Uber. Grab you'll pay them yourself, I just checked that on the Grab website,  as I was thinking the driver might pull a trick here.

So the fare is actually 50 more than Uber, and I need to deal with a substandard app.

Conclusion: Uninstall app, take normal taxi, about same fare, without the Grab monkey business.

  9. Just downloaded the app, and I can just agree the positioning is fishy. In thiscase it was about 100m into a death end soi and would not have caused a problem, but just imagine it would have moved into a soi which could only be reached from a paralell street, the car would have been 15min away. However, as soon you got the app installed, you can open GoogleMaps and you get a new icon, like hail taxi, public transport, or something alike. Positioning on GoogleMaps is accurate, and also much easier to choose the destination.

From there you just click open app, and there you go. Note that GoogleMaps give you wrong price estimations. A fare from around TalatPhlu / Thonburi is below 100 on Google, the Grab price is about 232, wich is pretty much the same like I had with Uber.

How it works out I'll test tomorrow.

My understanding now is that Grab has Taxis, wich are a bit more expensive than Grab cars. Did the Thai gov came already out with a statement wherever those are legal or illegal? Not that it would bother me much.

Are the tolls paid by the driver same as with Uber?

  10. Went a couple of times. Have seen the bridge b4 the floods and after. And while the contractor was not able and/or willing to repair, the villagers in between builded a floating bamboo bridge next to the other one, went during that time as well.

And better give Sankhlaburi a miss on weekends and holidays, unless your into an all night karaoke session with Bangkonian teens who do the trips on their 110cc Waves, you have been warned. ?
