Military experts say climate change poses 'significant risk' to security

A coalition of 25 military and national security experts, including former advisers to Ronald Reagan and George W Bush, has warned that climate change poses a “significant risk to US national security and international security” that requires more attention from the US federal government.

The prominent members of the US national security community warned that warming temperatures and rising seas will increasingly inundate military bases and fuel international conflict and mass migration, leading to “significant and direct risks to US military readiness, operations and strategy”.

Military Leaders Urge Trump to See Climate as a Security Threat

Stresses from climate change can increase the likelihood of international or civil conflict, state failure, mass migration and instability in strategically significant areas around the world, the defense experts argue.

Many military leaders say that considering climate change and renewable energy has made their branches more resilient fighting forces and bureaucracies, starting with reducing emissions and creating a nimble fighting culture that is less dependent on fossil fuels.

Thus one assumes Trump's too clever by half supporters who's main pillar is anti-refugee/immigrant etc would thrust their doors open if (or rather when) people start (or rather ramp-up) displacement,  fights over climate change affected areas, dwindling resources, fresh water, etc....

After all that, your point fails because it relies on a ubiquitous distortion.

  2. The 4 questions, while relevant and spot on, were rhetorical.  The PM must be annoyed with the intentionally obtuse cheeky monkeys who are pretending they were real questions, and an invitation to an impromptu national dialogue.   The annoying media is facilitating it too, like so many biting flies harassing the powerful buffalo.  PM is feeling the mounting pressure, but has got to be thinking, "Why couldn't I just keep my big mouth shut!".

The questions lay bare the loyalist and elite caste's contempt for the democratic experiment foisted upon Thailand many decades ago, thinking how many times will the peasant dopes insist on this failed, western system of government, expecting different results.

Thai Rak Thai but they also know the true, corrupt nature of themselves.  Takes one to know one, so Prayuth's questions address that elephant in the room. This is the point when explaining the current state of affairs to foreign diplomats.  Thailand and Thais need a firm hand and I think, deep down, most are fairly content with that kind of structure, as long as the firm hand doesn't get too carried away.

Maybe Thailand will eventually tell the "international community" to bugger off, and finish getting in line with the regional neighbors.  A Hybrid system with a burgeoning middle class.  Communism-Lite.

the log that was buried several meters underground about a kilometer from the temple.

The spirit had asked for his help to release her.

He found the log and dug it up and took it to the temple for the benefit of believers.

So a female Thai spirit lives in or on the log but has the typical Thai absence of foresight, apparently, as being covered with meters of Earth would take quite a long time.  So this daft, female Thai spirit waits, who knows how long, until she's completely buried, then decides to showcase her mystical powers by appearing in the town drunk's dream and asking for help.

So Somchai digs this ting tong lady spirit out of the ground, and she's apparently OK with being trapped again, this time as a cheesy attraction for dolts, in a shitty town just outside Sin City.

This Thai spirit doesn't sound like the sharpest knife in the drawer, certainly not one I would want to get lotto number from.

But the monks running the Wat are willing to go along with pretty much anything, long as the stream of idiots leave a few coins in the tray for them.  ฿   :ermm:

  4. Abhisit surfaced for air a few weeks back, along with Yingluck, to scold the Junta about squandering their opportunity to reform the country.    Apparently no attitude adjustments were given for their critical outbursts.  Now there are "rumors" that PDRC clan wanted to "take over" the Democrat Party.   And then bombs.

So to clear the political air about all this non-political stuff (wink wink), former PDRC and Dems had a public meeting at a coffee shop in excess of 5 people (7 counted in article yesterday).  A careful outline of the meeting's agenda, which included an updated assurance that Godfather Suthep was out of politics for good, that PDRC and Dems are of one mind, and another rousing promise to carry on wherever the Junta leaves off in the future.  And it all gets published in The Nation with happy photographs.  No fuss, no muss, and no reaction from the Junta.

  5. The Thai Met office warned of heavy storms last weekend, including where I live.  It drizzled a couple of times, that's all.  Now that the weekend's over, we got a short but good downpour last night.

Issuing warnings is good.  I get it.  I used to be a fan of the Thai Met website but at this point, I'm skeptical of their warnings, that seem to be more of a "cover your civil servant ass" tactic.  "The Boy Who Cried Wolf", until the one time they do get it right, and they will proudly defend their "face" and reputation with, "Well, we predicted it and warned you, didn't we?"

  6. IMO, Trump has lost his grip on the "fake news" tag line.  It's not fake if the leaks are eventually borne out and confirmed as facts.  Although I would prefer not having the banana boat spectacle of all these leaks, and let Mueller do his job and present the facts, updates, etc., as is appropriate.   That alone would restore some faith in government, and that there's a coherent, professional process going on, rather than feeding the DNC/Clinton, and MSM's lust for revenge.

So fake news not only means fabrications, but also the intent behind them (real or fabricated) is not really "news", rather part of this extended political hit job to bring Trump down.  Drip Drip.

But of course, you just can't argue that Trump, in large part, did it to himself, and all those scorned hens in the media, and various government departments he slagged off viciously and undermined so publicly, are coming home roost.  Hell, even Grandma Hillary is getting in on it.

It is not always easy being a Western woman in Thailand, I know: I’ve been here for over 10 years. On this Bangkok Diaries website alone, the amount of slander and hate-talk directed at Western women is a good representation of the larger anti-Western women dynamics in the country. In addition, I have seen innumerable Western women being broken as their relationship and family tears apart. It is a fact that very few Western couples can survive several years in the Land of Smiles.

Several years old, and just one perspective, and one you are likely aware of already.  You might try your Latin charm on that ^ website, but it could be an uphill slog at first, especially if you start calling them "morons" like you do on this forum.  Which begs the question, why would you seek advice about caucasion women in Thailand, from farangs on TVF who are losers and morons, shacked up with bargirls 1/2 their age?

    Buena suerte a ti'.

of course not young ladies ))  i hope to meet ladies 40 up maybe )

i am also not teen ager anymore )

I am happy to be proven wrong, but it is just my impression there are not great numbers of single, foreign women here, in the age/educational bracket you seek.  Some may have a "thing" for Asian men.

Keeping looking but same time, maybe also look on European dating site, from your country where you share common culture and language?   Maybe you can find some educated, middle aged women who suddenly find themselves single again after divorce or death of husband.  Perhaps children are adults now, and she has bit of money and time to think about having a new relationship.  If feeling is good, in time, maybe you can meet her there, or she is adventurous enough to fly to Thailand.

But of course you are aware that no matter what high opinion you have of yourself, now at 50+ years age, some Western women may form an unfair idea about you, and what you have been up to the past 16+ years living in Pattaya.  And so you must convince them your days of chasing Thai poontang are over, and now you seek a mature, educated woman of equal standing to have a 'real' relationship with.
