  1. When I fly from Bangkok to the USA via Tokyo most on the plane are from Japan. But that's OK -- I would recommend that persons not fly from Bangkok to London via Cleveland anyway.

Based on my encounters with Europeans mostly from UK on ThaiVisa I generally limit my encounter with those from Europe and UK to that on ThaiVisa. ... whether they same the same of those from US really makes no difference to me. The question on here is whether you would want to spend 20 or more hours on an aircraft with them and I choose when flying out of BKK to go the opposite direction and out over the Pacific.

Have you ever flown one of the mainland China airlines to the west coast? I haven't but I've heard/read a few stories.

  2. PM ought to take a ride across town in his armed to the teeth motorcade with a representative from the state-owned oil company, and see how they process and store a valuable resource.

Water? Not worth the trouble. A matter of priorities and profit. The sheeple can be pacified with double-speak bullshit, stalling until the rains come and then all is forgotten. Until the next dry season and it all starts again, like it's the very first time.

BKK oil storage facility. Probably costs less than a high speed train to nowhere.

  3. Arab Gulf countries had security guard requirements in place but nobody gave a toss about it until the last 10 years or so, which saw many governments taking steps to improve the sector. Once the teeth started to sink in, this drove many of the fly by night "security" companies and some dodgy manpower suppliers who couldn't cope, out of business.

Many GCC countries now have similar HR hiring standards and mandatory basic training courses tied in with City & Guilds.

It all started like a fart in church just like Thailand's current effort. As with many good ideas in Thailand though, many fall apart with a lack of serious resolve, enforcement and follow through.

  4. Singapore would almost certainly give them a Touch or three of the Rattan Cane. We should do the same here, might wipe the smiles off their Backsides.

Then release their Photographs and identities to the SINGAPORE News Media....the shame their families would face might also pull the kids into line.

The story has made Singapore news now.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but the article seems to indicate the shop owners and security basically strong armed these two girls into buying "the entire stock" of the the type of blouses they stole?

  5. They must be insane after the US shafted them over the sanctions. Why not buy Airbus? Just as good and no sanctions.

It seems like a calculated decision by the leadership in Tehran to buy Boeing instead of Airbus.

More to do with politics than economics.

Am I the only one who reads in the OP that they ordered 118 Airbus a few months earlier?

They did. According to PressTV last month, they are doing both Airbus and Boeing.

  6. One can only interpret the legal limitations as fait accompli Prime Minister , the government should have no legal limitations on a natural resource ,wherever that resource maybe, when it comes down to water management the Government has a responsibility to their people to ensure that there is sufficient supplies, for some reason or another this has not been forthcoming with successive administrations and it seems the Junta is no exception , to pull a legal limitations excuse, you either explain further or don't refer to this problem at all , I understand the inference of legal limitations and what it refers to , but not everyone does...........................coffee1.gif

I do not understand what the legal limitations are. Could you explain briefly?

Thought maybe it was a reference to land issues wrt building more dams. Maybe China's hording of water upstream.

  7. My local reservoirs are still virtually empty. The smallest of the 3 had major work done to increase holding capacity. .It's going to take some serious, constant rain to fill them, and I'm hoping the predicted heavy rains in August/September, come to pass.

I suspect we'll get to about 50% capacity in my area, people will get complacent and, by the end of next dry season, we'll be in the same boat we are in now.

  8. I hope the number of responses to this survey on something as dear to expat hearts as 'beer' is not an accurate reflection on the 'traffic' enjoyed by this forum.

Mod Scott has got this down to a science.

I imagine him in a windowless room in the bowels of Thai Visa HQ, his finger poised over the left click mouse button on yet another Poll thread..... turns to Mod Metisdead and says, "Dude, hold my beer, watch this shit!" ~ Click. laugh.png

  9. I had a case of the giggles once, got caught for speeding and dangerous driving, The cops read me the riot act and I couldn't stop laughing, but now that I come to think of it, I may have been buzzing from a four paper joint at the time.

On a more serious note, I have spoken with some Thais about certain serious news stories, e.g the cabbie jumping on the Honda jazz in a mad rage and similar stories and there reaction is to laugh, I ask them why they think its funny and they say, I don't know it just is.....Zip Boing!!

Zip, Boing noises played while showing a video of them being caned on a Thai TV chat show with the white skinned Thai ladies nodding their nose jobs and pointy chin implants, "Ka, Ka, Ka, OooooooHo, Ka, Ka..... That would go viral fer sure.

Finally! someone who see's Thailand through the same window as me.

We are not alone. Hell, even my wife is highly annoyed by inane, brainless Thai TV content.

  11. When you say large purchase, what does "large" mean? Hundreds of thousands or millions of Baht?

    about 25k baht

honestly, if you are worrying about 25k and exchange rate .........do not cancel your flight, go home

lol.. you serious? if i am losing $160 aud in the exchange and i can just as easily not, why wouldnt i ask about it? you think even someone who is more well off than me would want to just be like "well, i am losing $400 a month in the exchange but eh i wont bother trying to do it cheaper"

seriously, should i just burn 200 dollars and be like "well, if i couldnt afford to burn 200 dollars for no reason i shouldnt be in thailand"

    thanks for contributing

for everyone else, anyone know, would there be higher penalties trying to use my debit card directly which contains AUD, to make my purchase, versus withdrawing the money

Yes, I was. Obviously you took away a cavalier tone from my post, but I honestly did not intend it that way. I did not suggest you should leave Thailand, that was someone else. I was hoping someone would offer an alternative FX transfer method, as they often do on these types of questions. that would meet your short term need. Good luck going forward.

  12. Were the other mice new out of the box and still same problem?

New Mose released from box Has fixed it why is that , when te other mice were ok on other comps.[emoji232]

Dunno. I was looking at some YT videos about fixing dodgy mooses, sometimes the switch on the board inside the case goes tits up, but doesn't splain why it works alright on other 'puters. Anyway, new one a cheap solution, no more aggro.

  13. Guys, really??

Holding all Muslims accountable for one so-called 'Jihadi's' actions is like holding every German accountable for Hitlers madness.

People who are still on their Muslim 'kristallnacht' really need a reality check. It's as if you are just sitting behind your computer all day and night waiting until someone reacts to this topic so that you can spin it or twist it again, just to suit your anti-Muslim crusade. It's so surreal that I'm stepping out of it(talking about disturbed) Please leave it up to the security services to hunt these guys down.....it's not as if you are getting paid for it, are you? clap2.gif

DaveinAsia, this is a video you need to watch. It gives you a reply to "Holding all Muslims accountable"

Brigitte Gabriel gives FANTASTIC answer to Muslim woman claiming all Muslims are portrayed badly
    Watch it.

    I watched it. Wow!

  14. That's one bad ass mamma bear right there. thumbsup.gif

When I was a kid, my Aunt and Uncle had a mountain lion (and 2 bobcats, horses, dogs, cat, etc) on their ranch, in massive enclosures attached to the house. The ML was named "Chirp" due to the sound they make. I was about 6, maybe 7 years old at the time, and went to the chain link fence gate on the outside of the enclosure. Soon as that cat saw me, he crouched down, motionless, staring at me from behind the logs and big rocks, I could just see his eyes and ears. In one powerful, silent leap like a coiled spring, covered the distance and slammed into the gate right in front of me. Up on its hind legs, was taller than me. The speed and power was impressive and needless to say, scared the shit out of me.

  15. I didn't care for how Toyota operates the 3-year "free" (labor) maintenance plan on the Fortuner we bought in 2013.

They run it on a "use it or lose it" method on set timing spread over the 3 year period, not how many KMs you actually have on the odometer. We got the notice in the post for our final check in the 3 year program, I presume they would of been using the 100,000km check list while, at the moment, we've only clocked up about 59-60,000km I think. Just let it go, done with Toyota.

Had the oil change done at PTT Fit. Had the tires balanced, rotated, alignment at B-quick, which was running a 50% off labor promo so the bill was only around 400 Baht, which I thought was pretty damn good.

I think many manufactures employ a similar 'use it or lose it method' with regards to maintenance...

I just found this out with my BMW - 18 months old, 9000km - we put it in for a service to be told that if we didn't we risked loosing the warranty.

I think this is fair enough, after all why should the manufacture have to pay for repairs *(under warranty) to a vehicle that has not undergone any servicing or maintenance?

I'm not sure which manufactures insist on meeting the maintenance schedule on a 'use it or loose' it basis, but perhaps the manufacturer needs to do a better job of informing the customer.

Agreed. I didn't understand the program and after the 20,000 KM service visit, I contacted Toyota Thailand with my thoughts on how it was being carried out. They explained it. I 'get' it. Still, it just wrankled my sense of order and logic to be so far advanced on the maintenance checklists, apart from reality.

  16. A poll has just put Trump ahead of Clinton and the rot with the economy will be far more pronounced come election time which will favour Trump. I only wish a video could be made of the exploding heads and coronaries which would result from a Trump win. I'd have great fun playing it forwards and backwards in slow motion for years to come.

As far as I am concerned..

It would be fine to see...on both sides. If pushing Trump on can prevent Hillary from gaining office....then fine.

Democrats should not be so fearful....as Trump does not hide his wishes and desires, and (according to them) is not very smart. He can be controlled, once in office.

Hillary...on the other hand...is a lying, conniving, untrustworthy devil, who hide behinds Bill's corrupt pals on the beltway. You cannot control what she hides from you. She works without your knowledge, for her own selfish interests...and those of her corrupt pals.

Trump cannot be bought...Hillary already has been purchased, shelved, corrupted, and tested. She is part of the problem.

Let things happen. Hillary won't make it. Not because Trump is such a great person...(he is not), but because she is a known flaw in government.

Kick back and watch the show. Politics have been screwing us (and the world) for so long......it is time we screwed them back.

    Go Trump (fist pump)

Remember when Trump said he was going to finance his own campaign? What happened to that? Now he's out looking for rich right-wing donors. And his campaign promises show it. He's for a massive tax cut on the wealthy, removing controls on the big banks and financial institutions against raising the federal minimum wage, and for appointing right-wing judges to the supreme court. He's giving the wealthy and powerful everything they could reasonably hope for.

And how do you reconcile this? "Trump can be controlled". "Trump cannot be bought." So who's going to do the controlling? On foreign affairs I think it will be Vladimir Putin. On domestic affairs I'd say hedge fund managers and the big banks.

I have to side with many of the pundits who said, early on, that Trump never expected to get as far as he did, and certainly not to the point he is now.

He needs a face/ego saving way to exit the mess he's gotten himself into. I think he will be very relieved when Hillary Clinton wins. That's not an endorsement for the bitch on roller skates bah.gif but I think that's how this circus act will play out.
