  1. This act by a muslin group may very well have secured Donald Trump the Presidency.

Soon Eu Russia England China and USA are going to Kill more than the Germans and Japanese dies in the 2nd World War

These Muslims even have declared war on Liberal Gays who through the will be overlook

ISIS and all Muslims Groups better stop this War at once

As Many of them shall Died

It is very possible the beginning of the 4th crusade is upon us. Every person in the west, vs. every man, woman and child of the Muslim persuasion. Anger is building. I do not want to see this happen, but the Islamic community needs to start making their voices heard, in a loud, and powerful manner, or else terrible things are going to start happening to them. A lot of my moderate minded friends are calling for this to happen, right now. Kind people, without one iota of racism.

    This is silly nonsense.

History does have an annoying habit of repeating itself. Ignoring that is silly, and nonsensical.

  2. <snip

I have W7 Build Date June 2015, installed on new laptop last year.

    <snip>

Where did you get that date from ? June 2015 I mean

    I bought a new laptop.

I bought an original boxed MS program and had it installed. It is Win Pro 7 SP1 x64 English. Manufacturing details on box.

I bought an original boxed MS Office Home & Student 2013 and had it installed.

OK, but my question was a fair one to ask, especially in Thailand. Dodgy windows could certainly be a factor with Windows Update issues.

As Chicog mentioned above, there was a whole gang of updates pushed out and I think I had missed some before as well, so took a while to get through them yesterday. Re-Start, then had several more queued up afterward.

FWIW, I had a shed load of those Microsoft NET Framework 4.6.1. updates, and I've noticed those seem to take a long time to process. The download progress window sat on 0% for a Loooong time, and the one by one installation process took a while as well.

  3. You can turn off Windows Defender as noted above and yes, you ought to seek out a paid AV suite with firewall, or alternative "free" versions.

My Win7 takes a long time when I manually search for updates, but I normally don't fiddle around with that.

Instead of uncontrolled Automatic Updates or manual checking, I prefer to use the "Check but Notify Only" setting in Windows Update.

I get a Windows Update pop up notification when weekly or random updates become available. I go through the list and un-tick/deselect the ones I don't want or need, such as the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tools, which is often 40+ megabytes.

Thanks 54Jay for all the info.

I have Kaspersky Internet Security installed, always use this never use a freebie. Found it works well and easy to use.

I use manual checking for all updates.

Left machine searching for updates today - not using laptop for anything - took nearly 5 hours to find updates. Installed all except the following:- do you know if this is ok with W7 ? I thought I read somewhere that this Tool can cause issues with W7 and MS efforts to enforce the use of W10.

one update is "Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x 64 June 2016 KB 890830. Is this ok do you know when using Windows 7 ?

After reading the article posted above by Chicog, the update you've mentioned isn't "really" necessary if you're running solid AV software, but it is considered one more tool in the tool box. Read a couple other articles and did not see any mention of specific problems with it in Windows 7. http://www.howtogeek.com/180773/what-is-the-malicious-software-removal-tool-and-do-i-need-it/

Spending hours watching Windows Update sit and spin isn't my idea of a good time but you know how to adjust your Windows Update settings. As they say, "Up to you".

Thanks again "55jay" got your name right this time.

The last question, which should of been the first one, is.... are you running Genuine Windows 7, or an unlicensed, boot leg copy?

At any rate, Windows Defender and/or Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, are not likely culprits in making Windows Update take a long time. If it's any consolation, I had a bunch of Windows Updates yesterday, took a long time to download and install, but I let it run its course while I did other things online, and eventually prompted a Re-Start to finish update installations.

In this day and age this is no such thing as "solid AV software"... with a few exceptions, they are all dependent on knowing about the malware and having the signatures for it.

VirusTotal currently registers half a million new variants EVERY DAY and it has peaked at a million. And that doesn't include what they don't see.

So I wouldn't just say it's harmless to use the MSRT, but recommended.

Right, I suppose AV software can result in a false sense of security.

Never heard of VirusTotal. Visited and bookmarked the site. Tx.

  5. I didn't care for how Toyota operates the 3-year "free" (labor) maintenance plan on the Fortuner we bought in 2013.

They run it on a "use it or lose it" method on set timing spread over the 3 year period, not how many KMs you actually have on the odometer. We got the notice in the post for our final check in the 3 year program, I presume they would of been using the 100,000km check list while, at the moment, we've only clocked up about 59-60,000km I think. Just let it go, done with Toyota.

Had the oil change done at PTT Fit. Had the tires balanced, rotated, alignment at B-quick, which was running a 50% off labor promo so the bill was only around 400 Baht, which I thought was pretty damn good.

  8. Our bill is normally 180-200. We've had little or mostly no city water in recent months with the drought but last month, the bill was 230! blink.png Wife was spitting nails at the bill delivery guy thinking we were being played. I shut the city valve last month and now it's past time to get this month's bill, but none has been delivered. The meter still reads the same as when I shut it off the month before.

Turned the water on few days ago, checked all direct city line valves around the property were closed and in that process, discovered the MIL's toilet tank did, in fact, have low pressure city water flowing in, but tank but wasn't filling up....... the flapper doesn't seat properly.

  9. When you say large purchase, what does "large" mean? Hundreds of thousands or millions of Baht?

    about 25k baht

Personally, I wouldn't got through too much trouble for that amount in the short term.

If, however, you've been bitten by the Thai bug and plan to spend more time here over the years, the suggestion above ^ about trying to open a Thai bank account, is a good one. If you manage to get one on a tourist entry (I presume), it'll be useful for the long term. Also try to arrange your affairs in Oz with the most favorable cards for living/ traveling abroad in addition to internet transfer links between the accounts.

I don't pay attention to or have any practical knowledge about these alternative FX dot com outfits for transferring money, reckon someone will be along shortly to provide info about them.

  10. According to this, the shooter was a "regular" at the gay club.

    jihadist camouflage:

Taqiya (تقیة taqiyyah/taqīyah, literally "fear, caution") is a form of Islamic dissimulation or a legal dispensation whereby a believing individual can deny their faith or commit otherwise illegal or blasphemous acts while they are in fear or at risk of significant persecution. (or for further growth of Islam or for commit actions about it or to cover themselves to commit a horrible action.) maybe that is why FBI did not get him in before. They might think him like gay and assumed that he cannot be a jihadist or ISIS sympathizer.

    Not the first one..

After Abdeslam was tied to the attacks, various newspapers visited bars in Brussels's gay village, and reported that some bartenders there identified him as a frequent patron.[20][21][22][23] The Sunday Times published a widely quoted comment from "Julien", a bartender who recognized Abdeslam as a patron; he said that he and his colleagues had speculated he was a "rent boy". Other reporters speculated that Abdeslam wasn't necessarily gay, and that his visits to the gay bars may have been to gauge when and where the bars were most vulnerable as potential targets for bombing attacks.[24][25] Other reporters speculated that his intent was to take advantage of a client's inebriation to surreptitiously steal their passports and other identity documents.[26]

This is always good to watch (or any other Christopher Hitchens clips on youtube):

Christopher Hitchens "Islam is Bullshit and I am Offended"

Oh and yes, I do enjoy listening to Hitchens, even now. I felt a real sense of loss when he died.

Could be, of course, sure we'll learn more as the hours and days go by.

Having read the characterizations by those who knew this shooter in the club well before this attack, IMO, doesn't sound like he was carrying out a well thought out, long-term gay subterfuge as ground work for this attack.

  12. So ISIS is employing gay fighters these days?

They've got to be biting their collective knuckles having claimed so quickly that this guy was one of theirs. They owned it and now can't walk it back. The US MSM is NOT going to let this gay thing go either, and it's amusing to imagine ISIS leaders squirming around on their carpets, screaming at the television screen as the world news networks use ISIS and Gay in the same sentence, over and over and over again for the next week or two.

Rather doubt that is the case here.

  14. The reports of the possible homosexuality or bi-sexuality of the killer adds a wierd new twist to this attack. I know when I look at his photos my gaydar reads in the green zone. It might also explain the quick failure of his marriage (the ex wife has speculated he might have been gay).

ISIS has claimed responsibility for this attack. This was one of "their boys".

As it emerges he's likely gay, I would love to be a fly on the wall in ISIS HQ right about now.

  15. Between my credit cards & the Rabbit card I don't use much cash.

Paid for the cars with checks and service and fuel with credit cards.

So you never eat chicken and yellow rice at the local shop ... well our local shop won't accept a cc for 50thb.

Did you know that you can pay at Starbucks from your phone ...

There are people in Thailand who actually pay for tasteless dishwater?

Always wondered how they made that rice turn yellow.

  16. Cyber,

You've got deep seeded issues from this. This person is still in your head after all these years. I recommend you fly to wherever this person is and confront him. Face to face. Mano y mano. The outcome is not important. Standing up to him, and for yourself, will have a net positive impact on your personality and character.

  17. Metro/developed areas sure.

We live outside metro area up north a bit, so I'm maybe 30% credit card, if that, 70% cash. Do our shopping in the city at Makro, which only accepts Citibank card. With the exception of infrequent, random trips to BigC/Tesco/Freshmart, the rest is cash at typical Thai local markets, and we hit the ATM on the way.

My cash back card returns are only $8-$10/mo here. In the US, $80-$100/mo.
