  1. I use a "3G' AIS dongle when using the internet , I don't think it 3G at all, however when using an iPad will that work in the same way...slow?

I would say that it would be the same as its basically still using the internet. Welcome to living/visiting in the sticks

  2. Hello,

To try and reduce my monthly expenditure I am trying to find out if there are alternatives or generics for the following three medications:

    Micardis 80 mg

    Nexium 20 mg

    Crestor 20 mg

I have been to several pharmacies up our way in Ubon Ratchathani and they basically say there is nothing available. One pharmacy sold me a very cheap cholesterol medication. I showed it to my cardiologist and he basically said its very cheap and not very potent.

Is there also a way that this medicine can be purchased online and shipped to Thailand cheaply and if so, what tax/duty implications are there. My country of origin is Australia where I can buy these medications cheaper than here on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Ring road end of Sappasit road. Not surprised going by the amount of rain we've had. 178mm yesterday and last night according to the weather dept. And more to come apparently.

  4. It took us about 6 months to get the plates and then another 6 months to get the rego book. We kept a photocopy of the initial rego paper from the dealer with us to ensure proof of registration in case wifey was pulled over by the police.

  5. We had to do it all last Oct when we moved into the newly built house near the ring road. Just asked the wife and we paid 2000 baht deposit to start the elec and after a few weeks we got notification to come back and get the deposit back. With the water we paid some sort of transfer of about 100 baht to be taken from the Moo Bahn owner/developer name to our name. Electricity was done at the office near Chinatown and the water was done at the water authority office on Sappasiht road.

  6. Going back a few years but it only took a couple of weeks and we did have ALL the documentation, including Police checks etc., completed. Maybe it also helped that my wife had visited Australia on a Visitor's Visa with me previously.

All in all, we had great service from the folk at the Australian Embassy in BKK and later in Perth. And this was all before I worked for Immigration prior to us retiring in Thailand where we also get excellent service from Thai Immigration here in Chiang Mai.

Just a tip, when dealing with Immigration either Australian or Thai, be polite and dress accordingly. The "Ugly, loud, abusive Ocker" one way or another finds his/her way to the bottom of the heap.

My sentiments exactly in relation to dealings with immigration/embassy staff. Like I stated before my wifes application was approved within 7 days of lodging but I spent about 2 or 3 months preparing it in Oz and here in Thailand. Prior preparation prevents piss poor performance.

I believe the processing times are much slower now. I wonder if this is because of SE Asia being a high risk area or because of those wonderful boat people flooding into Oz now.

  7. Hello,

I am helping out a friend who is looking at applying for a spouse visa for his thai wife. I have searched on this forum for similar topics and found one which hasn't been updated since Oct 12 so I thought I would start a new topic. As this friend is only at the start of the process of preparing the application I would like to be able to inform him of what timeframe he may be expected to wait for notification.

Back in 2008 when I applied for a spouse visa for my wife to go to Australia, we received positive notification of visa grant within 7 days but I believe this has all changed in the past few years.

Thanks for any information or advice in advance

  8. I just spoke with John who met the owner on Sunday who said it is now open to the public as is the new coffee shop out the front.

I actually noticed the coffee shop and the sign for the golf course today when doing a U turn at the medium strip after leaving the TSF shop. I might point out this was after a very nice iced capaucino at Peppers café inside the TSF shop.

  9. Does CTH show any rugby?

The only thing I now like about True is it has Santanta with loads of rugby but gonna miss the footie so in 2 minds wether to chabge.

After some deliberation I got rid of True Vision at the beginning of the year. I had reservations about cancelling due to the fact that, to me, the only channel worthwhile watching was Setanta for the rugby union and league. I chose to buy a years subscription to Setanta online instead and therefore can watch all the games that I want online. Heaps cheaper and can watch the games when I want.

  10. I have been with 3BB in Ubon now for 18 months in 2 different houses and their service has been great. One time the internet was dropping out all the time and we called the call centre. Same day the problem was fixed and never a problem since. I have some friends who are forced to use TOT due to the location of their houses and they have had nothing but problems with slow speed and drop in speed.

  11. Just got back from my 90 day reporting at Phibun. Arrived there at 0820 and walked in. Another farang being served so got the ticket in the machine and sat down to wait. I was called up and 90 day reporting completed. Exited the building at 0830. New fitout looks good with positions for 6 people to be served at any one time. There seemed to be a lot more staff there than before and many new faces than I have seen before.

Get there early, be courteous and no problems encountered.

  12. How many eyes do you have? You can't do better than "Rutnin Eye Hospital" in Bangkok, in my opinion. I had both eyes done (not concurrently of course), cataract surgery, with Dr. "Roy" (first name). Perfect English, I think he did his med school in America. They only do eyes. On or near Asoke. Like 40 doctors. Patients obviously came from many other countries, by their dress, in the waiting area. I would not have expected the high level of EVERYTHING, even in America, hygene included. All the latest, greatest equipment, super high tech pre-op test equipment to find the perfect lens replacement. I told Dr. Roy after the surgery that if my vision was any better I would have X-ray vision. They're on the net. (I obviously feel strongly.)

I also have used Dr Roy at Rutnin quite a few times over the past 4 years. I have had a retinal detachment operation and a detached IOL lens operation with him as well as at least 10 check ups. His English is perfect and he explains everything in clear simple terms to you with the aid of powerpoint presentation from his consulting room.

    Would recommend him to anyone

  13. There is a paper shop on the road that borders the southern side of the big park where the candle festival is held. I cant tell you the name of the street but if you drive down the main road in Ubon towards the bridge over the river, turn left at the river end of the park and the paper shop is about 300 metres along on the right side of the road opposite the Tourist office. A friend of mine used to buy the Bangkok Post there everyday until he went online.

    Hope this helps

  14. But it's utter twoddle about not being able to post your 90 day report?

Can anyone confirn if this is a 100% sure service or an extra thing offered?

I have an English friend who has been posting his 90 day reporting from Khemarat (130 kms away) for the past 5 or 6 years. He has had no problems at all with the reports being accepted and receipts returned.
