  1. So I am up here in floody Sukhothai. The water went away 2 days ago and now it has returned and looking like more days of reading thaivisa threads. This one has had me fixed for 5 days and I have enjoyed reading it all.

Originally I was thinking of the N then I seen the F and now I have been to my friends house and had a little look at the Versys, I'm stuck as what to choose?

I originally wanted finance with about 50% down but now I could be swayed to get a 2nd hand one and pay cash. Only problem is I don't see many in the classifieds or on any of the other websites.

    Decisions Decisions......

Any knowledge of bikes for sale or any other pearls of wisdom will be greatly received.

Take care and stay safe out there

  2. So Ex- PM Abhisit was here yesterday and the current PM is here today, pointing at things and looking concerned for the pictures. Channel 7 news are also here and they are giving out food and drinks to the affected.

In the 3 days I have been made prisoner by the floods I have seen one large truck with 20 sandbags come up the soi to help an old dear with no defences againgst the water and that was 20 minutes ago. Luckily my boss a local Thai big wig walked up the soi and shouted me out this morning with some food, water and a first aid kit for me and my wife.

People could be seriously screwed in many small streets and no-one has been delegated to go house to house and at least try and check on folk in these smaller soi's.

I just hope everyone is ok.

    jambco984

Appreciate the first hand account and maybe I missed something or you have just worded something wrong but why are you a prisoner if your boss can walk up your Soi?

Sorry my house isn't under water, it's knee deep outside but I have sandbags so no water indoors, the main road at the end is nipple deep and moving at quite a pace, my boss has a boat and a small team, rich folk helping out. I joked with him, you will be in the local paper for helping he just smiled as he knows publicity for a few hours graft will elevate his status even higher.

I hope things get better and return to normal quickly .... any word locally on when that might be expected?

Thanks a lot Apparently 2 more days before the water will considerably go down, its gone down a little at my end of town but Im talking maybe an inch or 2.

  4. Not sure about Kawasaki, but here at Sumet we usually provide finance for customers in the Bangkok area only. It makes it easier to repossess the bike in the event of non-payment. It might be best just to give them a call and ask.

Yeah I gues it makes sense for the repo if theres a problem. Thanks Sumet

Um... have you called Kawasaki and asked?! coffee1.gif

Gave them a call at Nakered Swan and I got a lot of phone passing around and giggles off some folk who don't speak much English, my Thai is getting better but I don't know how to ask these sorts of questions. I'm sure there are English speaking staff. I will get the wife on the job.

The only reason I am asking is I'm nipple deep in flood water in Sukhothai so off work for the week I'm halfway between Nakhon Sawan and CM.

I'm drooling over the pictures and videos on youtube and spent 2 and a bit days reading the Er-6n page which is brilliant banter and informative to boot. I'm only half way through so don't spoil the ending haha.

Yikes- sorry to hear you are affected by the floods!

I've never bought a bike on finance here so can't really give you any good info, but I should think your wife ought to be able to get a straight answer over the phone.

As far as finance is concerned, I think you will get much better terms if your Thai wife buys the bike.

I've heard, but again have no first hand experience, that foreigners are often required to place a larger down payment and pay a higher interest rate than Thais. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong smile.png

Good use of the word "YIKES", not heard that in any context in a long time biggrin.pngbiggrin.png

Thanks, the floods are only in the front yard and not in the house, I have got sand bags fortifying the house but not needed yet, I live in a small dead end soi off the main road which is nipple deep as I describer earlier and quite fast paced. I have brought my Phantom and Wave into the house and just twiddling my thiumbs.

Where are you posting about the Ninja 650R, do you have a page like the ER-6n on here?? I'd love to read it if there is as I'm swaying towards this bike.

I have also heard some of the stories of foreigners getting ripped off by several 10's of thousands of baht on finance, suppose we are a flight risk.

I will get the wifey to ring tomorrow morning to see what they say? Hopefully I will have something to look forward to and a nice bit of good news after all of this flood rubbish has cleared up.

    Take it easy

  7. Ok folks one more try before I let this thread die a death.

I am wanting either an ER-6n or a Ninja 650R but probably swaying more to the Ninja, what is the score with finance and buying them from a different province. I am in Sukhothai, the nearest is Nakhon Sawan then Chiang Mai.

I have WP, bank account with monthly income, a yellow house book.

    Thanks in advance

  8. Also as someone who lives and works in Sukhothai but much more handsome than that Robson fella. I have to agree with what he said, many people have complained about the cracks that were appearing all around the market and behind the schools but nothing was done. The maintenance of the roads near the river in the town was started approx 2 months ago and has just been completed. The actual upper walls that hold in all that water are no thicker than a concrete paving flag, I wish I had picture evidence.

I have 20 bottles of water between 2 of us. Dried noodles that never get eaten but now our new staple diet and a bit of cheese. Oh the joys. Yes I can wade out of the house at nipple height and Im 6 ft tall but nowhere has any stocks.

The army are doing a good job I was out with them yesterday filling sand bags and helping others, until the second surge of water came and its at my house now. The sand bags are holding which is a good thing.

Lets just hope for a lot of dry and quick pumping days.

Oh its just started raining.... SERIOUSLY.

Oh well enjoy your bit of paradise like I am enjoying mine, but to leave you with a short story......

Not that I'm a tittle tattle but I am about to tell a 100% fictional story about a town named Floodsville.

Ttake from it what you will.......

A certain big wig who we shall call Mr X is a prominent member of the community in Floodsville, told his foreign staff on a dinner outing that Floodsville gets approx 18 million baht per year for flood repairs and compensation. Now the PM and cronies all decide how much as a maximum each household shall receive in compensation, say the number is 5,000 per household. It is then upto Mr X to say, we will give you 2,000 each per household, businessess a little different but still pittence on actual damage caused. Mr X rather happy with himself pockets X amount, his minions pocket Y and the lowly servants of X and Y get whats left, lets call it Z amount. First hand experiences from a small town named Floodsville.

As I say take from it what you will.

    Night night

  9. Im looking for any information on getting finance from a big dealer but not having the big dealer in the province will they still do it. I live approx 200km from my nearest Kawasaki dealer in Nakhon Sawan and want to see what options are open.

Yes finance sucks but I will use salary and not savings and not really miss it anyway.

What will be required if I can get finance??

Has anyone done it and not lived in the province, can be nationwide and any bike dealer Kawa, Honda, Ducati etc..

I have WP, bank, yellow tabien baan probably some other stuff I dont remember now.

Thanks for any useful help, cheers

  10. I did some research on ATV's about a year ago. Not a lot of good quality ATV's around Thailand. Some of the Chinese ATV's are sturdy little machines for sure. The cheap end of the market is all chain drive. I foresaw problems with not only the chain and sprockets but accelerated wear on the tyres and rear suspension bushes. For our needs a 500cc engine and strong chassis was needed.

In the end we decided the extra money for a new tractor was worth it.

Yeah I am starting to think a little extra money will go a long way to ensuring I don't buy a scrap heap of metal.

I rented one of these on Koh Samit

    http://www.amornatv....TV M STORM.html

    post-57474-0-31330000-1345748251_thumb.j

it obviously has a hard life and the tires had seen better days but still got to the bottom of the island on some really bad tracks 2 up OK and was a lot of fun

If you go to Samit to try one I rented from the place behind Silver sands beach resort and think i paid around 600 baht for the afternoon

    cheers

Unfortunately no one rents where I live so I can't get a real feel for what I want, I am at the mercy of the TV members who comment. ;-)

I own a Chinese 250 jainshe puma and a 400 ho Polaris. My 250 set me back 135,000. And has had some small bugs but easily sorted. Polaris set me back 295,000. Very nice bike. You will get what you pay for. For on road use a 150cc will be ok. Off Road you will want a 250cc minimum.

Sent from my GT-I9300 using Thaivisa Connect App

I have started to realise that anything less than a 250cc is not going to make me too happy. I need power and strength so it will now be a minimum requirement to spend 100,000 baht that will include the 250cc Big Bear at 96,000 baht. I wont spend anymore than 130,000 though or I will find myself in a never ending search for greatness and spending 400,000 baht haha.

Thank you all for your input.

    Please keep the comments coming.

  11. http://www.thaiatvsales.com/atv.html

Security Guard in our Village has one of these, 42,000 baht used many times in 12 hours 7x week for the past 2 years..

Old Thai man in the next Village has one and can been seen all over the place, seen him 7km away in a Village the other day, his cost more somewhere around 66,000 I think he said, is a 150cc and had it 2+ years.

Good to know thanks a lot, restores a little faith in the cheaper end of the market so thats at least something.

I found thaiatvsales.com last night and I am impressed with the range, my local dealer has offered to buy the one I want and pay them a little extra, saves using the delivery method of every 100km its 1,500 baht, I live 400km from Bangkok, I'd rather give the money to someone else.

Still going to put some commitment time aside for more thinking to see if there are any other options to be had.

  12. I had a pitster pro called l 140 cc bike managed to get full refund after 3 days of phone calls to head office in Bangkok the shop near me where I bought it does not seem to sell them any more what does that tell you.

Sounds like you had a nightmare, very lucky to get your money back.

I hope to check the second hand market out but its difficult not knowing where to look. I have tried bahtsold.com but basically clueless.

    Thanks.

  13. I have had one of there bikes ,well 2 actually first one broke after 1 day so they gave me another and that 1 started leaking fuel from fuel tap same day, took it back and they wanted to take fuel tap of other returned bike and glue it onto my bike not the professional fix I was looking for.

These bikes are simple to fix but the whole point of buying something new is for reliability so if your stuck in the middle of no where you could have real problem.

I think you will only ever buy 1 Chinese bike then neither again once you have seen what they are like

Bit busy at the mo will say more later but which one did you have of theres?? Just interested to see, yeah reliability is the main thing your right, if they are pants then it will soon become an irritation.

Was it a bike or a quad you had??

    Thanks

  14. I not have any experience with the ATV's from them, but I bought an off-road motorcycle from a closely related company (maybe same company different department). And I have nothing to complain about there service – all I have to say that I basically only buy parts from them if I need them and ask them for advice if I not understand something...

An alternative source for good ATV's is Gemcar http://www.gemcar.co...oducts/atv.html, but my experience is that they're also a good amount more expensive.

The only official 'wellknown' ATVs available and officially distributed in Thailand are to my knowledge Polaris. Which are distributed by H20 Co., Ltd, Tel. 02-743 5151 ask for Khun Pinthanon (or Charles) email [email protected] (without the real need to say it, I guess you understand Polaris ATVs are not the cheapest)

Import your own ATV, ATV are in Thailand classified as farm equipment (not motorcycles), and if you have a family member who has a farm (and registered as so) you can import a ATV relatively cheap.

Thanks for being the first RichardBKK mucho appreciated.

Like I said I don't want to be spending a small fortune on something that is a novelty item and feel that these two I mention are quite solid. Just need backing up or shooting down. Maybe in the future if I like getting down and dirty then I would consider spending a bit more.

    Thanks

  15. These two ATV's can be found at atv.co.th

    At 66,000 baht (150cc) and 96,000 baht (250cc)

Has anyone owned one of these or tested one or even just looked at one. If anyone has any thoughts I would love to know.

Yes they are Chinese, yes they are loosely based knock offs of the Yamaha Big Bear 400cc but will they give me hours of enjoyment or one ride and be broken.

I have a dealer in my province who can get them and has mechanics who can fix them and can get hold of parts if there is a booboo. I know Thais who ride these and seem to have no problems and when I have asked they say all is ok so maybe all the hype about them being crap is unfounded (I HOPE).

Mostly I will be using it on the road (yes kind of illegal if you don't know the cops) and on gravel dirt tracks, no lagoons or real messy fun, unless people out there think that these can take some of the real action to be had in Thailand.

I am more interested in the 250cc but if the 150cc is a good contender and doesn't lag too much in power then I will save myself 30,000 baht.

If it is no good according to the thaivisa members who input on this then what is a suitable substitute and not costing the earth is a big plus as it is only for a bit of fun I am not a serious ATV head........ YET ;-)

Take care and looking forward to your help.

  16. IMHO, the bad sign is that you blinked first (asking her back), it would have been much more comfortable for you (in the long term) if you had waited for her to ask to come back.

Asking her to quit her job.

Another really bad idea, after a while having her hanging around the house 24/7 will become very tiresome, for both of you. Don't do it. How about her asking her employers to change her working days before she quits?

Thanks for this. Yeah I want compromise and so does she. Since I initiated the break up we have called each other everyday and we have remained on good terms then the next step was to get back together (I think).

I never wanted to break up in the first place but circumstances at the time were just too much and well that was that. Yes I am no saint but I have always been loyal and loving to my wife.

The time apart gave great thinking time and breathing space to see what we both wanted.

Background on wifeys job, she works at a supermarket as back office staff and loves it. Yes the freedom is great for her and I respect she wants independence its just I know what we had before she took this job and it was great. I get 8 weeks paid hols a year so either work more or sit around twiddling my thumbs waiting for her to come home. We had been all over South East Asia together but now we never get out of the province.

It's a tough one but we will see.

    Thank you

  17. Ok ok i deserve these comments i should be more open and im loving how i am now egocentric.... Nice.

Judge a book by its cover cock.

Im a teacher and have good time off. My wife works Tuesday-Sunday. Her day off is Monday. She goes to work before me and comes home at 9pm?? Time for bed do it all again. Is that a life any of you saints in wedded bliss would entertain. I dont think so.

Before wifey took this job we got on great and had lots of time for each other. Now we dont see each other and shes entitled to a whopping 6 days holiday a year. Yes shes thai you have to accept she isnt going to be entitled to farrang hols and benefits in this country.

I dont lord it over her. All i want is compromise to find a happy medium. Oh and by the way she hasnt finished work yet. I didnt pin her hands behind her back and force her to quit. Its just what i want. She tells me what she wants and then take it from there.

But as I have had s**tty replies from gobs**tes then i will reframe for asking for genuine help.

Faith in foreigners in Thailand restored. Yes a good bunch of you are not worth any words.

  18. it is hard to make a marriage work when your in the situation of both of you working, especially if the wife works much longer hours. My marriage broke up mainly due to our time off not coinciding and we ended up leading separate lives. It's something i regret and should have tried harder for a solution.

If you want to make it work you are going to have to work hard at it and that will mean BOTH of you making compromises.

    I wish you luck

Quitting jobs to be together never works because the person who quits their job always feels they are the loser. Make some compromise yes, but quitting jobs to be together is a recipe for a big problem,

Thanks chaps both useful and worthy of a good think ;-)
