  1. Most Thai women married to older farang men have serious younger thai or farang bfs, which makes the farang husband in some ways the minor/noi husband i suppose.

and where do you derive that more than 50% of Thai women married to older farang have "serious" relationships with younger Thai or farang men? (and no, by definition the younger men would be the "pua noi")

    Personal experience?

Yes- i am an average (frankly nerdy glasses type) looking bloke but i had two of my friends wives approach me just in the last 4 months- one just for a shag the other wanted a 'secret bf'- both 10-20 yrs younger than their farang husbands.

In the years i have lived in Asia almost every young asia/older farang couple i have met - the younger wife has been playing around behind the husbands back (not with me i should add:) . Im talking about maybe 20 couples i have known well or somewhat well and about 18 of of these the wife had other bf (s).

But honestly, if you are 40-50 years old ++ and you marry a thai girl 10-20 years younger than you, you have to be extremely naive to think she wont be cheating on you i would have thought.

Utter rubbish. Either that or you mix with real <deleted>.

  2. Not happy in Thailand? Time to go home. There are already too many people here who don't like it but insist that Thailand must change to suit them. Ain't gonna happen.

It is not advice for this fellow but as has been said many times don't cut ties with your "home" country. We have the house in Thailand and a place in Oz. It is understood that the Thai house is hers and the Oz one mine if it all goes tits up.

Write off every cent you invest in Thailand as you do it. This is wise financial advice but also makes it easier to go if or when the time comes.

  3. And the front door should not be in line with the back door as all your money will flow out of the house.

I've heard that one before, but our house, which was built by Thai people for Thai people, has exactly that arrangement.

I've also heard that beds shouldn't face east (not sure exactly how a bed can actually 'face' in one direction or another) but my brother-in-law and my nephew (+ wife and baby) all have beds in that direction, as does their front door.

Anyway, can't you just say that the house faces the other way round? Call the front the back, job done wink.png

Hadn't heard about the bathrooms but ours are all away from the front.

And I heard it is the head of the bed that can't face west ...

Head of the bed....ok, I'm calculating it in my head now......and we're fine laugh.png phew, that was close!

What about the doors? Ours faces East, those on the opposite side of the road......are they in trouble?

Ha ha. We have doors on all sides of our place. Not heard anything. Apparently the head of the bed can't face west because that's where all the spirits of the dead people go. It's all a bit of fun.

  5. I have two friends who own and run 3 salons on Soi Rang Nam. I was friends with them when they only had one around 2 years ago.

They both worked for Toni and Guy in Siam or Silom, forget which, for years and years, then as husband and wife set up by themselves.

From visiting their place for a chat almost daily while I lived there I would estimate a profit of about 15-20k a day. Working long long hours. They bought a 9m condo on Soi Ari, she has a mini cooper and him a 3 series, so they can't be doing too bad out of it.

Not sure what your friends are charging here, but Tony & Guy in BKK, in MBK about 6 years ago i paid 2700 baht for a hair cut, no wonder they can buy condo's and BMW's biggrin.png

Two weeks ago missus and I had our hair cut (shampoo, cut, blow dry) in MBK. Same level as the BTS walkway. 200 for me 300 for her ... 2,700? What did you have done?

Did you have it done at tony& guy in mbk? Or just a salon in mbk?

I was talking about tony& guy senior stylist is 2700 baht just for men's hair cut

Obviously not. It was right down the end. Good setup and twice what I normally pay at the barber in Silom. 2.700 is nearly AUD 100. For a hair cut?

  7. I had the same thing happen in Australia recently . My Thai girlfriend has a one year multiple entry Tourist Visa & they said that she has been to Au to often to use a tourist Visa and they could refuse her entry .i am puzzled that why would they give a multiple entry Tourist Visa to anyone if you can't use it . Multiple means two or more and she had used it three times for a couple of months at a time because we have commitments in both countries and can't stay too long at each .

My missus gets asked what she's doing when she enters Oz without me sometimes. Long stays and short exits bother them. With airfares the way they are now people can stay three months, leave for the weekend then come back for another three months. And so on. I don't know about Thailand but Australia calls that "residence by stealth" and will eventually refuse to allow another entry saying you should make application for residency.

And Australia have more problem with my numerous trips to Thailand than Thailand has. They told me once my travel profile made me look like a drug courier ...

  8. In my first marriage I paid for everything. My wife was the homemaker and we had children to raise. I earned enough to allow her to be a full time mother and I think the kids benefited. I work as an expat and apart from the fact that my Thai wife is on a dependent visa ("Work Prohibited") she would only be able to earn a small fraction of what I can. So I pay for everything and she is the homemaker.

Truth be known she is much better with money than I am. When I divorced the white missus I walked away from our assets in Australia and basically had to start again. We're doing well now and it is in large part due to my wife's frugal (read major tight arse) ways. We live well but don't piss much money away.

Her friends ask all the time, "How much does your husband give you?" She says, "He doesn't give me anything, but I have these cards and can take what I need but I ask him if it is something big."

Marry a sensible chick. Treat her nicely. Life is grand.

  9. Half the replies here sound like advertisements.

We live near Nong Khai and it is really easy. There are loads of people at the Friendship (not Freedom) Bridge and if you don't have photos they have cameras. We did everything outside immigration and it was a piece of cake. If missus is from Isaan she doesn't need a visa. Yours will take a whole page in your passport. Don't buy Kip everywhere takes baht. Consulate is the same as consulates everywhere, have your shit together, be polite and you'll be fine. Don't be in a hurry.

Enjoy the little bit of France that is Vientiane, right down to the Arc de Triomphe. Read the plaque inside, it's a hoot. "Concrete monstrosity" it calls itself.

  10. Immigration has improved dramatically in the last two years. But with all international flights in a big airport like Suvarnabhumi I'd be there three hours before. Something strange might happen. A few years ago some rock or movie star was there and the place was a madhouse. Last January we were 5 minutes in the Thai check in queue (to Brisbane, the 23:59 flight, nearly always full) and 10 minutes in security/immigration. This new upstairs/downstairs system seems to work really well.

  11. Were you paying yourself? I'd assume "work" means paid employment. The objective of the law is to stop you taking a job from a Thai. As someone pointed out, if it extended to every task you could possibly outsource (like wiping your arse or shagging your missus) it would be ridiculous.

The legal definition of work in Thai also includes non-paid work. That is why the situation is a lot more vague and tricky.

    Here is the official definition..

"to engage in work by exerting energy or using knowledge whether or not in consideration of wages or other benefits"

Thanks for that. So, yes, it is ridiculous as it could technically include me shagging my missus. How bizarre.

Just don't put any energy or knowledge into it and you should be right.

They'd need a high speed camera to catch me in the act!

  13. The biggest DANGER with regards to overstay is that IF, for some reason, you are asked for ID, between home < - > border, you will be in VERY BIG trouble and are likely to get arrested and unceremoniously thrown in some unpleasant Immigration Detention Cells.

Please Be Aware of this !

That's funny because the only time I overstayed by two days we went to Immigration (or whatever it's called) at Udon Thani and told them we were booked to fly out two days late and they told us not to worry and just pay the 1,000 baht and also that my daughter would be free.
