And if I had wanted to make a post about Thai people in the US and if their expectations were to little or to much I might have used that example. Once again sorry you don't like my post ..... feel free to ignore it or make your own. They were used to make comparisons about peoples expectations as it relates to expectations in general. Sorry if 12 words in my post dissapointed you , feel free to ignore it if you like or make your own. Coke , Hilton , Malls , and Macdonalds can all be found in Thailand so really it's 8 words.
They were used to make comparisons about your expectations of a country which has had little historical western influence with what's commonplace in your own country. It's a bit like Thais in the US complaining that the pla ra is no good in Florida.
I think endure has a very good point and it is not about liking your post or not... it is the question about everybody's personal approach to Thailand... and I actually started with the "comparison mode" when I came here first... see whether McD is McD as they promise...
Only when I started to come here more regularly and got to know people living here (both Thai and expat), I started to realize that such a comparison mode is ok for tourists but wrong if you want to really live in LOS...
Just as one example, when I first did see all the street vendors (food), I thought "poor Thai, can not afford real restaurants" and started to invite them to "good places" and thought that I do them a favour treating them with a decent meal... only to know today, that street vendors is the normal way of living and started to try them out myself and today I accept that Thailand is Thailand and I stopped with all those comparisons.
Thailand is Thailand. If you want to live here and be happy, that is the only way to do. Of course, we don't like corruption, tea money, crime etc... some people like walking streets, some don't... some people can deal with the no-meter taxis, some don't...
But I think that people who live here and are still making comparisons about their home countries (or other countries they thought about living in), have not arrived in Thailand... you might not like many things that you have to endure here, but it's of absolutely no use to compare with your home and to ask "when do the Thai change it". Changes might eventually happen and some of us might eventually still be alive when changes happen. But in the mean time, try to arrive here with your heart and your soul and then, you automatically stop comparing with back home.

Thanks, if its the norm here then that's alright. I was only worried as I hadn't been informed before making the advance payment.
Sorry, but for a one month rent, i have never paid any security deposit...

Watch their traffic path for few hours to find out where they enter your bed room and then plant ant poison in front of the point of entry

Need to spend between 15-30k or so.
If you "need" to spend that money, you can find quality brand cams in most shops on third floor of Central Festival

And on that floor in Central he will certainly spend it, and probably a lot more, and get a lot less camera for his money.
And in tuk he might not be able to spend 30k for a cam... but he "needs" to spend it

Me personally, Ive had a fake Omega watch now for over 6.5 years and it looses perhaps 45minutes a year. Pretty good considering the Thai price tag. Looks wise, pretty good also, Im regularly asked about my watch, if only they knew it wasnt the real deal. Therefore, Id take Thai price over British quality anyday. How bout you?
Omega is NOT British, it is SWISS!!!!
but I agree that British has not mich of a quality, thus i would also choose Thai price

Yes... Asking advice for illegal activities on a public forum, obviously not knowing the laws and consequences in Thailand... Seems your brain is already heavily damaged...

58 and 22... now think 10 down the road and you will see the issues... and when she moves in, you WILL be paying... rent, food, some clothes, school fees... will happen slowly but steady...
And since you already have second thoughts about litigation, throwing here out etc... looks to me like you know the answers already...

It seems the OP has no jnderstanding of Ethics and is labouring under the misguided belief that he can control the personal and emotional aspects of a relationship with list of rules and caveats.
I suggest pressing restart and going back to the fundemental ethical questions surrounding the the transaction.
Completely agree with you. OP: you write
Both are aware, ... that this is ... primarily a transactional relationship.... They agree from the start that there is not an exclusive commitment on either side, and that either party may terminate the relationship at any time.Based on that, why do you think that you have ANY right at all to tell your “service provider” with whom she can sleep around or what kind of clothes she will wear when she goes out when you are not around? Does your “service provider” have the same right to tell YOU what to do and what not do do?
Why should your "service provider" not be allowed to offer the services to other "sponsors" in any way she likes, as you clearly told her that you will drop her in an eyes blink when you feel to do so...

How disappointing...
But as we now know that we can drive a thread over 100 without saying nothing, the OP has his answer
Am considering myself out of this thread and will head to celebrate Christmas with my Mom
Merry Christmas Everybody!!!

I am quite simply replying to this topic to help it get to 100 replies.
Highly appreciated!

99 lucky?
So you desire the closing to be ON #99 or before #100. Technically i need 100 posts to reach this insane goal. Didnt you figure that our by now?
Aaahhh... getting depressed... see you don't pay attention to my posts... clearly wrote before that the Mod should close with #99...
But you didnt set the rules. MrTywais did. Attention, please
I only said "should"... as in suggestion...

Steely joe is cool.

Post 65, 35 to go.
With most topics that go over the magically figure some people read the opening page and then post. They fail to read what has been already stated
Now post 67. 33 to go
This is a fair point. I'm sometimes guilty of that - but if a thread gets really long, are we obligated to read all of it before we respond to the OP...I know one can sometimes look like an ass by not doing so but is it wrong?
And I often don't agree with closing threads (tend to think they should die out due to lack of interest or a general feeling that it shouldn't be continued)...but I think it would be great if the Mods closed this thread at 99.

I feel misunderstood by you... all I'm doing is HELP the OP to get close to 100 as fast as possible... all the rest is out of my hands, as we all CLEARLY know that our so beloved and revered Mod's would never listen to any of us...
Chickening out? i thought you had some stamina...
Naaa, still holding on to my bet... but since I', currently the only one who paid into the pot (cash only bets...), I'll be the winner anyway
Only thing you paid is attention, fellow. I am grateful for that
Don't forget that 99 is considered to be a lucky number in Thailand, so the op should also be grateful for my idea
-
i still have no reason to believe this thread will close at 99. Many of the posters have been supportive. Only a few like yourself have been critical but surely not negative.

Naaa, it's Christmas... I consider the close at #99 a present for the Mod

And you post Christmas cards to yourself by mail as well?
Sure did! Together with my own Christmas present... my flight to celebrate Xmas and NewYear in Thailand

What are the odds this one getting to 100?
And here I was, fingers poised above keyboard ready to jump in and make the 100th post in this crucial thread .... providing it hadn't gone off topic by then of course.
What was the topic by the way????
Opening a thread. Discussing something. Closing the thread.
Thanks for your help... was about to loose track of what I'm writing about...

My bet is 99:1 that one of the sooooooo nice Mod will close this down with his 99th reply
I take that bet! More importantly i will know WHO pushed the red button if he does..
That would be worth another bet... which of the Mods will get the honour... maybe there is already a fight ongoing behind the scenes
Mr swiss1960, dont you think it would be inappropriate and show of low self esteem if you closed this topic at #99? In some strange way i feel you try to mean good.
Naaa, it's Christmas... I consider the close at #99 a present for the Mod

Tywais is a respectable person who always considers members' interests as a high priority.
I like Kahlua too.
Maybe we should start a poll... do we want this thread to reach 100 or not... so the mod knows more about the member's interests
I vote
on 99
How Much Do You Give To Your Girlfriend Each Month?
in General Topics
Posted
You should stop asking others "how much do you give" and think about "how much does she need".
Now you will live together, so I assume you will pay for rent and food and all other necessary spendings?
What will the situation of your GF be, will she have kids, will she have older parents?
Do you WANT her to continue work (6d /week, 12h out of home / day) or do you want her at your side more often?
What was her financial situation before you met her?
Based on all those answers, you will easy find out the right amount to give her with the goal to make her situation better than without you (that it basically what every woman in the whole world wants...):
- she continues to work, you take care of daily living => give her nothing, but she can keep her salary and is better off
- she stops to work, you take care of daily living => give her a monthly allowance for clothes/cosmetics, help her kids, parents etc, but max would be her previous salary
So for your question "what is normal" => anything from zero to 30K Baht / month can be "normal" in order to keep your GF happy with you.
P.S.: And if you really care about her (and depending on the age difference) you will give her some extra to safe for the time after you "left". This of course once you have really committed to each other.
