What a loathsome, slimy, lizard-like individual!

The up-coming election, whenever it may occur, will clearly be a mini referendum on whether Thailand continues under the military or returns to civilian rule. And if you do not have a position on that question, then one has to ask whether you have any principles at all.

If your political philosophy is to wait and see who has the most to offer you, then you are simply a whore waiting for the highest bidder. No wonder the Thai people get disgusted with their politicians.

Thailand is facing one of the most important questions of its existence and the answer will determine its course for generations; 'who has the most to give me' is an unacceptable reply.

I think your "loathsome" response is based on no knowledge of Anutin. He is a friend of mine and an outstanding individual who gives up his free time to fly anywhere in Thailand at his own expense, to help doctors collect organs such as hearts etc and has helped save a lot of lives. He is down to earth and does not flaunt his wealth I.E. he only wears one watch.

Looks like it is discontinued for now. As I recall there are a number of Airports that are under reconstruction and /or runway repairs/extensions.

Air Asia has a habit of trying new routes and cancelling without explanation. Suggest you telephone their help line.

  3. Yes... If you are buying a new car. Dealer will often help you with negotiations with your existing finance company or you speak to your existing finance company yourself. Providing they agree that you are good for the increased monthly payments you can go ahead. Effectively you pay off your existing debt and immediately replace it with the new loan.

  4. The Airport Link express trains have not worked for a year and only the City Link is running. Tried to get on the train at Hua Mark at 07.00hrs on Wednesday but it is impossible, as the trains arrive jam packed. Instead I used the old SRT railway from Hua Mark to Makasan, time 20 minutes, cost B2.00! No wonder the SRT has no money when the fare is only B2 compared with the Bus fare for the same route

  5. I have worked as a consultant for Boliden Batteries here in Thailand as well  as writing specifications for a number of standby battery installations. We usually design consumer grade batteries for a minimum life of 5 years based on the ambient temperature and cycle life(stop/starts). For commercial installations we are usually designing for a minimum 10 year life. I have experienced similar problems with Honda Batteries (Yuasa), as I recall they had a 2 year warranty but seem to conveniently last 2 years and a few months. Not much we can do about it under Thai consumer protection as it is.

  6. The British Embassy do not handle much these days. All the details for applying online for a passport for your son is available at www.gov.uk:

Since 2006, the UK Government do not automatically grant British citizenship. You will need your wife's written permission to take your son abroad. You will also need the original Thai Birth Certificate with a certified translation.

I was told this happened on soi 33 Sukhumvit a couple of months ago. Only the victim was a passerby crushed by a falling heavy gate

Be careful out there. I try to give construction projects a very wide berth, although there's so many they're hard to skirt around without bumping into another.

It was a friend's 23 year old son that was killed on Sukhumvit, when a gate was dropped on him from a condo construction. The owner has been threatening his family not to seek compensation "or else".

  8. I am retired and have been investing here for 24 years through Maybank Kim Eng brokers. There is no capital gains tax on investments in equities, but there is a 10% withholding tax on dividends. As you are retired here, from personal experience, the Thai Tax office are not interested in taxing your investment earnings, pension or other income. However, if you want to claim back the 10% withholding tax on your dividends, then you have to make a full declaration. Personally I do not bother to do this as it is a hassle and I do believe that I should contribute towards the cost of public services and infrastructure.

£ is 9% up against $ in 2017. level against THB

The Pound is not up, our pensions paid here have fallen between 25% and 20% since Brexit. Here are the real facts: The Brexit referendum date was announced on 22nd Feb 2016 when the GBP = B51.162 on the day of the referendum. On that day, when it was thought that sanity and Remain would prevail, it rose to GBP = B52.2053. The GBP is now only B43.43T/T (Cash B42.92)

The Pound is not level against the Baht, it has fallen 3.15% since 1st Jan 2017 (B44.79 T/T) to 31st Dec 2017 at GBP = B43.43T/T

  10. My cousin started the real ale pub craze in the UK with his Bruce's Brewery which pioneered the Firkin brand in about 1980. Started off with 'The Goose & Firkin,' near Borough tube,  and the next in Lewisham  called 'The Fox & Firkin' had a promo T-shirt with logo 'For Fox Sake, Buy Me A Firkin Pint.' Then they spread around London, The Phoenix (Denmark Hill), The Flounder (Holloway Road) and there were 2 others I remember, one near Portobello Road near Westbourne Park tube and one in Goswell Road. They named their 6% beers "Knee Trembler, Dog Bolter, Gobstopper" and various other descriptions of efficacy". At that time Thai beer was around 6%, but various Governments have been encouraging a reduction in strength to 5% in a vain attempt to reduce deaths from drink driving. Thai beer still has a similar alcohol content as US or European beers.
