  1. In 1989, I was enjoying Karaoke with Somchai Khunpleum and the then Police Chief. I was hosted by a friend from Pattaya, who later became a Senator in the Thai Government. There have been a lot of stories about Somchai fleeing Thailand to stay at a Casino in Cambodia. When he was a arrested in 2013 in Bangkok due to a urgent hospital visit, I asked my friend about the stories that he was out of the country. He told me that he was normally staying at the family home in Chonburi. As I recall, the Bangkok Police told him to go back to his home in Pattaya and that he would be arrested only if he came back to Bangkok and as far as I understand that is still the case. He is not under arrest and the guards outside his hospital room are most likely there to protect him, not to prevent him escaping.

  2. I checked your model on IT City Web Site and it does not come with W10 preinstalled, you can buy as an extra in their shops or online, home or pro-edition 64Bit. If you are not capable of installing the software just ask the technicians in the service corner of the shop. If you are near Seacon Square, take your computer down stairs and ask one of the repair experts to set it up for you. B500.

  3. A friend who has a house next to the Chao Phraya River on Rama III Bangkok already posted yesterday, photos of the river overflowing its bank and flooding her guest house. Just as King Canute could not hold back the tides, article 44 cannot either, only carrying out the final phases of the King Rama IX flood prevention plans of 1986 and 2000 can solve the problem. The major works not carried out are: 1. complete the flood defence walls around Bangkok and raise them to the height originally recommended 2. The Yom River Dam 3. The Super Floodway to bypass excess water flows from the Chao Phraya at Chai Nat and Ayutthaya direct to the sea at Khlong Dan 4. The Chao Phraya estuary barrage (similar to River Thames barrage)

I've had surgery in a Thai government hospital.  Based on the service and the results, and compared to my experiences in the United States hospitals before moving to Thailand, I've had a completely different experience as what you are warning others against.

I and all of my friends have had no problems obtaining professional medical treatment or surgery in Thai Government or Private Hospitals over the last 23 years. Many surgeons have studied for 7 years in the United States sponsored by the Thai Government and the terms of the scholarship mean that the doctors, when they return to Thailand to work at Bumrungrad, Bangkok Hospital etc, have to work so many days a week at a Government Hospital.

    Ready this year?

The construction budget is about 200,000 million baht (200 Billion Baht*) and will be completed in 2023. *(Note an English or European Billion is now the same as an American Billion.) The budget refers to the civils and the project will be PPP. Either Singha or Beer Chang are likely to take part in the investment in the E & M, tracks, rolling stock and operation.

Just hoping that the Pattaya station will be in a convenient location inside Pattaya city, not a revamp of the existing station way outside the city with a daily bunfight and rip off by song taow drivers.

It will be outside the city near current station, but there will be a tramway to take passengers from the airport around the city. This is the reason the dolphin roundabout is being demolished to allow space.

Schultz? Not a very Danish surname.

Schultz is one of the top 100 common surnames in Denmark and I have a lot of Danish friends here with the surname Schultz. The surname derives from a status name for a parish official performing certain judicial functions in the parish (from the German Schultze). The border between Denmark and Germany has changed several times in history and the present border with Germany was fixed in 1920.

  8. I helped write the Bangkok Solid Waste Master Plan in 1999. The figures should be shown as tonnes per day not tons/day (tons means short tons which is 907.19kg), we worked in metric tonnes and kgs/person/day. The figures are suspect, 20 years ago the figures for collection of garbage(wet waste) and rubbish(trash) Bangkok was  11,000tonnes per day. The above news story indicates that 11,500tonnes per day are generated. The problem is that there is more waste generated than the BMA can deal with and that tends to be fly tipped on any available waste land and not collected by the BMA. This builds up. There are less recyclables collectors these days so bins get overfull. The above story fails to point out that most of the rubbish found in the street during the floods are due to the waste bins floating and being knocked over due to flood waters. Also the ground floor of buildings being flooded and materials floating out which block also the drains. The drainage and flood prevention schemes need to prevent flooding occurring in the first place. Much of the flood prevention and waste disposal schemes still have to be completed.

  9. Why go to the PWA office? If I went to the PWA office to pay my B140 water bill, it would cost me around B200 in fuel of traveling expenses plus my time. I pay at 7-11, often within 30 minutes of getting the bill from the meter reader's print out. Sometimes one 7-11 does not update their system in real time and they tell me to come back later. So I tell them to update their system and then they find that they can scan the bar code and find that I can make the payment. If not, I walk to the next 7-11 near by and pay there.

  10. Thai Ticket Major is part owned by Major Cineplex/EGV Group. They have outlets all over Bangkok, but I prefer to buy online. They send the tickets via messenger and refunds also if the event is cancelled. Alternatively you can go to their outlets such as Central Bangna and Central near BTS Siam. I believe you can also buy at any of their cinemas or Tesco. The next major show is Michael Bolton on November 11th. Best to subscribe to their news letter to make sure you are able to book the best tickets you can afford in order to get closer to the stage.

They are going to build the monorail trains here ?  The Japanese and the Malaysians have experience with heavily used monorail transport systems.  One should expect costly delays.   Not an easy thing to build.  Parts will need to be all custom made.  There are no monorail stores were you can just pick up a lip chassis.  Wonder why they chose a monorail system.

No problem, the monorail system and trains will be designed and supplied by Bombardier via their Chinese factory. Bombardier have built many monorail systems all over the world. There will be no costly delays, the consortium includes BTS, SinoThai and Ratchburi Electric.

  12. Not really true, brothels are not to blame but it takes sex to make a story it seems. The truth is that the ground level in Bangkok was sinking 1983 at the rate of 100mm/year due to ground water pumping. So about 1metre per 10 years. The charge per/cu.m was then increased and controls introduced, so that by 1995 the ground level was sinking by 10 - 30mm/year. The depletion of ground water in the aquifers below Bangkok hit a peak in 1997 but rapidly fell after the Tom Yung Kung crisis of 1997 and the introduction of a 10 fold increase in ground water pumping charges. By 2005 the ground level was falling by 5 -10mm/year. The fact is that the ground water levels in the aquifers below Bangkok have been restored effectively. Comparing the facts from statistics and graphs, the evidence is that the fall in ground levels, currently at 5mm/year, is due to the weight of buildings, especially high rise and not due to ground water pumping, let alone Massage Parlours.
