They both give a free wall charger and installation. MG uses Prime to do the installation and they don't like(understand) Solar. BYD uses a different company (name escapes me currently) and I was assured by the dealer that having solar was not a problem. -

Seal gained 1,104 orders in one hour after the launch in Thailand, Australia took 2 weeks to reach that number. Rever Automotive, the distributor of BYD cars in Thailand, collaborates with the local charging infrastructure provider to add 1,100 charging stations by the end of 2023. https://carnewschina.com/2023/09/29/byd-seal-launched-in-thailand-attracting-over-1000-orders-in-an-hour/#google_vignette -

EV subsidies in Thailand to be continued but at a greatly reduced level For the EV 3.5 measure, the Thai government will provide subsidies for electric cars, electric pickup trucks, and electric motorcycles. By type of car and battery size as follows 1. In the case of electric cars priced no more than 2 million baht with a battery size of more than 50 kWh, they will receive a subsidy between 50,000 - 100,000 baht/car. For a battery size of less than 50 kWh, they will receive a subsidy between 20,000 - 50,000 baht/car. 2. In the case of electric pickup trucks priced not more than 2 million baht with a battery capacity of 50 kWh or more, they will receive a subsidy between 50,000 - 100,000 baht/vehicle. 3. In the case of electric motorcycles priced no more than 150,000 baht with a battery size of more than 3 kWh, they will receive a subsidy between 5,000 - 10,000 baht/bike. https://www.posttoday.com/business/701455 -

BYD Seal tips, tricks and help

In a Thai household the “Chew Len” (nickname - literally play name) is important May I introduce “Moo Dang” (red pig) and “Mot Dang” (red ant) The problem currently is what to call our White Seal. Seal in Thai is “Maw Nam” (water cat) but “Maw Nam See Cow” (white water cat) is a bit long for a nickname I did suggest the car already has it’s name on the back, so why not call it 3.8? Not cute apparently. We will probably stick with just “Maw Nam” (water cat) for now but if we end up getting his & her seals, the lack of colour distinction might cause confusion. Any suggestions grateful received -

Apparently the deal could be approved if I could buy a nice handbag to go in the space under the drive selector. Unfortunately the handbag has to accommodate an iPhone, the one that’s as big as a surfboard. -

I don’t know why people are crying like a baby about EV electricity usage when the electricity used by EVs is a tiny fraction of the energy used in crypto mining. Yet you never hear a single complaint about crypto mining being a complete waste of energy. “Cryptocurrency has an energy consumption problem. Bitcoin alone is estimated to consume 127 terawatt-hours (TWh) a year — more than many countries, including Norway” https://rmi.org/cryptocurrencys-energy-consumption-problem/ -

We put down a deposit on a White Seal Premium on September 29th (They released the price info at 6pm on Sept 28th) Was told will get in October or early November. Called the sales girl this morning and she didn’t know when the next premium would arrive. Ask if the Q for performance was any shorter “we have a white performance at the showroom now if you want it” 🤔 -
I get this question so often that I made a video about it.

Completely understandable. If you look at the design criteria section I lay out the priorities for the build. This is where you have to make compromises and if you want the most efficient home possible you have to move away from what most people consider attractive in a house. In Thailand that is a house that you would expect to see in North America or Northern Europe with big picture windows. I was lucky that I have a very understanding wife.

Home charging will be at a speed of 7kW AC compared to fast DC charging at 150 kW so I don't think it will put too much strain on the battery -
Rare earth elements on their way out of EVs?
Bandersnatch replied to placeholder's topic in The Green Forum
I regularly see posts here claiming that REES are used in large quantities in modern EV batteries but that is incorrect. They were is used in Nickel–metal hydride batteries in older hybrid cars, but that is no longer the case. “ 'rare-earth' is a misnomer because they are not actually scarce, although historically it took a long time to isolate these elements. rare-earth elements are technically relatively plentiful in the entire Earth's crust, cerium being the 25th-most-abundant element at 68 parts per million, more abundant than copper Ce and La are important as catalysts, and are used for petroleum refining and as diesel additives” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rare-earth_element -

This was your carefully considered reply to @Gweiloman post "Why would there be a need to upgrade the national infrastructure? Most EVs are charged at home at night when there is low demand for electricity from industries and businesses." If there wasn't less demand and more supply capacity at night why would PEA & MEA offer TOU Tariffs? -
There is rain and there is rain! The last time I switched on PEA was in September 2022 during Super Typhoon Nuri Here is the video of the Event - I have 4x9kWh LFP batteries by the way.

I have ordered one - top spec AWD has 0-100km in 3.8 seconds. They have bi-directional charging so you can charge them up on solar in the middle of the day and power your house at night from your car. -

Why don't you ask people here who actually have solar and EVs then you might get some facts. A 10kW PV system would be able to run a 7kW AC wall charger for at least 6 hours a day after powering the house = 42kWh @ 7.5km/kWh = 315km/day - should cover daily usage My Payback: Main Components 20,000 Watts of PV @ ฿9/W = ฿180,000 9kWh LiFePO4 Batteries ฿68,000 x 4 = ฿272,000 Inverters ฿36,000 x 3 = ฿108,000 = ฿560,000 Savings: PEA saving ฿5,000/month Fuel saving for 2 drivers ฿5,000/month = ฿120,000/Year saving Payback = 4.6 Years - after which free electricity and driving -

I pay ฿26 per month for a 450 sqm house and that includes charging an EV and electric scooter, but I do have solar. -

I designed my house to be off-grid powered by solar. I have a grid connection but it has been switched off at the breaker for over a year now. I installed solar thermal for hot water. You mentioned concern about battery sourcing, I would suggest Lithium Iron Phosphate, which is what I used for home storage. I use excess solar produced in the middle of the day to charge my EV and electric scooter. I have ordered a second EV with an 82kWh LFP battery and V2L (bi-directional charging) which I plan to further support the house to be off-grid during the monsoon season. (Video will be uploaded to my channel soon) This is my build blog with a link to my YouTube channel https://ecohousethailand.com/

I plan to add the Seal Camera and then I plan to add a multi camera system like you see in a Tesla https://www.lazada.co.th/products/tiesfong-m10max-2k-1440p-dash-cam-for-car-dvr-4ch-360-camera-24h-parking-monitor-gps-night-vision-auto-video-recorder-256gmax-i4809803963-s19902910010.html?
