Update on Tesla Supercharger/Destination charger locations in Thailand, which are all currently located in central Bangkok. Tesla previously listed “coming soon” on it’s charger map, but that is no longer the case. Current roll-out rate is less than one location per month. None of the chargers are open to non teslas. Tesla does have a link on it’s website for anyone interesting in hosting a supercharger location.

7kW for single phase, but someone like myself with solar 3 phase or even DC is very attractive as I can make 20kW of power in the middle of the day and it would be a shame to waste it by only putting 7kW of power into the car.
This is the sort of thing I would like to use if it was avaible in Thailand:

The Seal does come with a sun shade included and Teslas do have aftermarket versions available online, but to be honest I haven’t seen a version for the Tesla that impressed me.
Suggestion from @Andrew Dwyer
was to add DIY foil and foam insulation. I agreed to test this but the weather has been very mild since.
I have added heat reflecting film to my car:
Today’s weather:
My foam is silver on one side and about 5mm of foam which I tucked under the sun roof on top of the sun screen.
Temp of the film coated sunroof (you can see the clouds)

Here’s a little look at the Honda e:Ny1
I was quite impressed with the Honda e when it was released back in 2020, but I feel that the e:Ny1 is a step backwards design wise.

Tesla just published a video "Extreme Heat Testing | Tesla Model S, 3, X and Y"
This was the comment I posted on the video:
"I was hoping to see cabin temperatures mentioned in this video, why weren't they? Here in Thailand it's regularly over 40 degrees C and the Thailand Tesla groups often mention the fact that the air-con does a poor job of cooling the cars. The pre-cooling function is particularly poor. Heated seats and heated steering wheel but the seats are not cooled or ventilated and no sun shade for the glass roof. It is standard procedure here to add additional heat reflective film to all glass and Tesla's have a lot of it. White is the free paint colour in most countries, but in Thailand it's Black and the option to specify a white interior is not available!"

Decided on the DIY approach with foil and foam on a roll. The foam fitted easily between the glass and sliding blind.
will test the temperature tomorrow

Seems like a pita to carry and fit that screen .
A lot of Atto 3 users have been buying that foam with aluminium foil both sides, 10 mm thick, to block out the sun, fitting it between the sunshade and sunroof , others using 80% film to keep cool .
I was thinking about doing the exact same thing with the foam as I have still have some laying around after insulating my house.
Sunroof/Glass-roofs in Thailand make no sense at all.

BYD Seal’s Glass roof has a solution for hot climates, which Tesla doesn’t include and I am not talking about the ventilated seats.
Jump to 13:13 in the video (apologies the video is in Thai, but it does have hard coded English subs)

Not sure if it will land on Thai shores but here’s hoping ????????
I think that the Atto 4/Seal will probably be more expensive than the Atto 3, so we are probably looking at more than the $1.2m 60kWh Atto 3 and less that the ฿1.7m Tesla model 3.
Despite my concerns about the lack of space compared to a SUV, the Seal is still on my short list. I like the LFP battery chemistry, V2L capability, expanding dealer network and BYD’s commitment to Thailand by building it’s first foreign factory here.

Solar PV should cost about ฿9/W
My 5kW hybrid off-grid inverters cost ฿36,000 each
9kWh LiFePO4 Batteries ฿68,000 each
Fitting plus extra components required is extra
If you are building your house now spend some money on increasing insulation to lower electricity demand. My aircons are only 8,500 BTU

Bangkok Motor Show March 2023 Answers provided by staff on the stand
MG Maxus 9
3-row MPV with 90 kWh battery, 540 km EV range
This a product of the Maxus, which is a subsidiary of SAIC Motor that also owns MG. It is known as the Maxus Mifa 9 in China.
At the show it was available for prebooking with a ฿20,000 deposit which entitles customers to double that amount in discount. Staff at the show said that price and delivery had not been confirmed.
In Thailand, the Maxus 9 will be offered in two grades, starting with the X and the V which will add run-flat tyres, genuine leather upholstery, improved powered front seats with massage, heating, ventilation and driver’s side memory functions, VIP-style second-row captain chairs.
I had to queue for some time to see these cars as they were probably the most popular cars at the show! Due to the crowds I have included some photos from PaulTang.org so that you can get a clearer view.

One of my subscribers in a teacher at an international school in Thailand. He is planning a unit on sustainability with his students and wanted his students to interview me. I suggested that I make a video that covers my attempts to achieve self sufficiency in Thailand and that his students could interview me over zoom after watching the video.
Anybody else working on self sufficiency in Thailand?

You could be right I might have been fooled by painted roof on the base model and the black roof - thought it was glass on the top model

Driving past my local MG dealer and saw that they had MG EPs in stock, so popped in for a closer look. This is not the new shape which is called MG ES in Thailand (both models are called MG 5 else where)
The EP is ฿1,000,000 but with the government incentive only ฿771,000
really great value.
One thing I really like about these cars is no sunroof.
Thais are complaining on the Tesla forums that Model Y and 3 in Thailand are getting too hot. Teslas come with heated seats, heated steering wheels but no cooled seats. In Thailand Black is the Free colour and you can’t even select a white interior.
I previously test drove the MG 4 which is a great car and it comes 2 trim levels
One has a sunroof and the cheaper one doesn’t - choose wisely

Still obsessing about trying to get a cool (not hot) EV with a
stupidglass roof.Thinking about buying a Tesla and don’t want to have to pay ฿50,000 extra for white colour (the free colour everywhere else)
https://youtu.be/iDVrfLad3Es
Then buy a Black car and wrap in white or silver including the glass roof.
