Video: Monks behaving badly - abbot's assistant kicks fellow monk in head as he counts Loy Krathong "takings"

A video posted on Facebook was yet another example of the monkhood behaving like hooligans.

 

An assistant to an abbot at a Nonthaburi temple is upset with an underling as he counts money taken during Friday's Loy Krathong festival.

 

But the altercation - caught at a distance on CCTV - soon turns very nasty as the bigger monk kicks out at the other catching him around the neck, Thai Rath reported. 

 

The monk goes sprawling to the floor and appears momentarily unconscious. 

 

But after a few moments he recovers to continue the counting as the assistant abbot continues ranting.

 

A post in the comments section on a Facebook page said the incident happened in Ban Mai sub-district of Pak Kret in the area to the north of Bangkok.

 

The post claimed that the aggressive monk was into gambling on the underground lottery and cock fighting.

 

It claimed he had assaulted monks before and the clergy at the temple was suffering because of him.

 

At one point a very rude Thai swear word almost never used for monks was only half scribbled out indicating extreme dissatisfaction with the monk's behavior.

From the day i landed in Thailand over 2 decades ago, i have been constantly reminded that we have to understand that in Thai culture, the head is considered sacred and the feet dirty, even pointing with your foot is offensive. A monk with a gambling addiction kicking the head of another monk would have been an unthinkable and most abhorrent act, but with monks now being regularly in the news for drugs, rape, porn, stealing and even murder, it does not surprise me anymore.

The only time I went to a Muay Thai match in Bkk there were senior looking monks taking cash out of white donation envelopes to gamble on the bouts. I avoid giving these people anything if it can be avoided these days and have very little respect for any of them, until proven they deserve it.

Hard to believe that this sort of behaviour appears to be tolerated ! The monk should be charged for assault !

All religions are about 3 things and 3 things only.  MONEY, POWER AND CONTROL OF THE POPULATION. They spend their waking hours trying to figure out how to seperate you from your money and people admire these people. They are only human, they dont have any special powers or observations and what they all preach is rubbish. 

Nice to see that many monks are <deleted> bad peoples, I know only a handful of monks that take their business seriously!

Usually I don't comment on religious matters, but, this is the time for the abbot to take action, defrock!!

That is the danger of being a Monk; later in life same health brain problems as football players, I'd suppose. I wonder that more of the Monks aren't in hospital, seems a dangerous profession. 

Over the years I attended most of Buddha's teaching but have no recollection of this one. Maybe I was out for a moment? (did somebody kicked the $hit out of me?)

I dunno!  The big fella doing the kicking seemed to take the business side of this too seriously!

they behave like any other humans.....you don't need to have any qualification to become a monk.

Question are Monks Thai or are they from all diffrent Nation's 

Never confuse monks with religion in Thailand.

Actually there are 13 qualifications required to be a Thai monk.
