  1. This one is my 1.8L again, but he pushed it hard so you can hear

That's how mine sounds if i floor It going from a toll into oncoming traffic for example. But if I am coasting down the freeway at 120km/h, it sounds like the video i posted of my car. Once it settles on the freeway you can't hear anything

I know. You're going to post and say it's all shit, gutless and loud.

  2. I find it fishey he never has told us of a single Fault. Strange That.!. Even Die Hard Truckie and Tuna Drivers can manage an Honest Whinge now and then. I can find many faults on my ride, but then i should have bought a Snooze.:D .

Fault? It's 6 weeks old. What faults could there be? If you have specific questions about the ride, build quality or whatever just ask. you don't have to take my word for it, I can make a video and post it here and you can judge for yourself.

When people here were saying the CRUZE was loud and kept arguing, I took a video of me driving it so you could hear the sound inside the cabin.

Came back 10 minutes later and the post was removed.

That's how "fair" this forum is.

I will post again since someone said the ride was "tinny" and loud.

Here it is. This is me driving home. Judge for yourself

max 3500rpm, you r not even within engines powerband. Should be quiet at this parking speed

I see. So now the rpms aren't high enough.

I was driving on a small 1 lane road, and I was doing 50mph. You drive at 50mph inside a parking lot?

If you look at the speedometer, i took it from 20- almost 80km/h. How fast would you like me to take it?

  3. Cant Afford My Car. What a Pompous Ass you are. Jim isnt living of his Wife, and hes a Young Gentleman as his posts show. Tone your personall coments down. You started off O.K. but your Street Creds nearly Zero..As Iz My Spellinz.:D

Who can possibly live off their wife in Thailand. Do you know what Thai salaries are here? Mine earns 1/4th of what I earn.

And it wasn't pompous. It was a statement of fact. 34,000 baht is not a real salary. That's ridiculous. That amounts just to all my bills every month.

The best advice is not to buy a car. He doest earn enough. He should get a job 55,000-60,000. Then he can get one.

  4. Went to Lao for a few days last month, Hyundai looks very nice many there, the 130 and the new i40 most were saloons, few hatch backs, looks better than Mitsubishi Ex or Chevy Cruze + far cheaper...... Guess all about tax and protecting Thai built cars here.

That really doesn't help him at all.

"Oh you didn't tell us that. If you're earning 34,000 baht a month you cant afford my car.

    Just get a Brio."

    And your post does?

Yes. The Brio is a car he can buy in Thailand, where he lives. The engine is small and the automatic costs 508,000 baht. The manual costs even less.

    Yes. It helps.

Hey I saw a Hyundai i40 in Laos. It looked great!

Good for you. Who cares? We're in Thailand.

GM opens new US$200M diesel engine facility in Thailand; first to produce new 4-cylinder Duramax diesels

General Motors opened a new diesel engine plant in Rayong, Thailand. The US$200 million facility, which is adjacent to the automaker’s vehicle manufacturing plant, represents GM’s most significant powertrain investment in Southeast Asia. The new 54,275-square-meter facility, GM’s first diesel engine plant in the region, is the first-in-the-world to produce the all-new family of Duramax four-cylinder diesel engines.

  7. Hi all,

to keep anyone still interested abreast of developments.... I guess you can say that I have been somewhat 'pussy-whipped' into looking at a 1.5 or less City as we could do with the 100k tax back, and to be honest, paying back 400k+ over 5 years meant nearly 8k per month out of my meager salary.

This was put into sharp perspective this month as I have just had to pay 10k for unexpected medical bills this and, as such, I have started looking longingly at the rice/salt combo set in our kitchen :-)... but in all seriousness, it has made me realize how much losing 8k of 34k would really be a pain in the arse (especially with a nipper - totally different if single!)

So, I have looked at the City, but they won't take my car as a trade in + 3 months wait... not practical. After reading here, the Mazda 2 manual might offer frugality with some amount of fun - after visiting the dealer, they offered me 400k for my car. Will go back and test drive the 4dr MT... though I hated the interior dash/facia styling, the idea of paying 145k over 5 years with 100k cash next year is quite appeasing.

Will keep those of you who haven't fallen asleep updated.

PS I, for one, am enjoying the "Cruze banter" :-)

Oh you didn't tell us that. If you're earning 34,000 baht a month you cant afford my car.

    Just get a Brio.

  8. More like 6 1/2 months not 8.

And to think since this thread was opened, the Cruze has been the best selling car in the USA.

I guess many agree with the NYT review.

NYT review is based on a US spec Cruze at a reasonable price. You have purchased a low spec TH Cruze, a daewoo at a whopping 880k baht

The Cruze is built all over the world. In Australia, Russia, China, India, etc etc.

The Colorado is built here and sold in the USA.

Also, every car you buy here is overpriced. The Mitsubishi lancer that everyone in this forum likes is the same thing. Starts at around 470,000 baht in the USA new. How much does a lancer go for in Thailand?

  9. The Remote Boot Opening is a nice feature on the Ex, and the Lights are Brilliant. { No pun intended}. tried one this evening in the rain its pedigree shows through, Precision, as opposed to the Cruzes "Cock in a Bowler Hat" sloping around the place ride..The Cruze is Quiet though. :D

The OP never said the CRUZE slopped around the place. YOU said that.

The CRUZE doesn't slop around anything.

  10. I was going to tag this on the end of the "I bought a Cruze" thread, but thought it might be useful to someone in the near future, hence a new topic.

After driving the Mitsu EX 1.8 GLS Ltd yesterday, I went back into the Cruze today for another spin to get a better idea (I drove the Cruze for the first time last week).

Overall, I prefer the inside of the Cruze, but the ride/gearbox/engine of the Mitsu. Isn't it always the way that you can never quite seem to find that car that ticks every single box? Life is always about compromise!

After the 2nd Cruze test drive, my thoughts are the following:

Interior - Cruze is the winner...

    - Cruze interior is definitely nicer, it 'feels' a better quality car from the inside (The Cruze's speedo and dials look better and it has more interior cubby holes and the Aux/USB connect is good.)

    - The Cruze's boot is bigger and both car's rear seats fold flat

    - For the short time I sat in both, the Mitsu had comfier seats.

Driving - the Mitsu felt slightly 'better', though neither are 'bad'.

    - the CVT gearbox on the Mitsu is very smoothe and would be great around town.

    - The Cruze gearbox was a touch 'jumpy' and when coasting (foot of the accelerator) the Cruze felt like is was braking slightly (more like a manual)

    - The Mitsu felt slightly more connected to the road and the 'manual' sequential shifting was much quicker in the Mitsu (though this function is rarely used by me).

    - The Mitsu was quicker and more responsive.

    - The Cruze 'cruised' as lower revs, but I found the engine noise and from the tyres louder than the Mitsu (though the Cruse was on 17" vs. 16" for the Lancer). For fairness, I must say that both were quiet.

However, an issue I have with the Cruze is that the test drive model is the LTZ, I am looking at the LS model. The top spec Cruze compares favorably with the 1.8 EX Lancer as the specs are quite similar... however, for an LS Cruze, the spec drops a bit.

    Examples are:

    - leather interior is 25k extra on the Cruze, standard on the Lancer (but more choices of inside and outside colours on the Chevy)

    - The Cruze LS has no 'auto setting' for the a/c blower - this sounds like nothing, but I find it to be on one those things that is simply 'very handy' to have and is standard on the Lancer.

    - The 'a/c fan buttons' look nice on the Cruze, but again, after driving and playing around with them, I find the Lancer's less attractive dials to be actually more 'functional'. I didn't play much with the stereo on either model.

    - keyless entry and push button start on the top LTZ Cruze but not the LS model (the number of times we've searched through the wife's bag looking for the key means I find this a nice option to have on a new car) standard on the Lancer (though to be fair, the lancer is not strictly 'keyless', you do need to press a button on the handle and turn a dummy key as opposed to pushing a button).

    - Cruze LS has 1 airbag, the Lancer has dual. (Although I have read the Cruze fairs better in overall safety and has been voted "Car of the Year")

So, it has been hard to compare 'like with like' and as a result I left Chevy with a feeling of potentially 'buying the unknown' whereas with Mitsu I knew exactly what I'd get.

Other 'non driving' areas of interest:

    - Both offer 1 year 1st class insurance, free registration, free window tinting and floor mats and the promise reverse sensors

    - 150,000km /5 year warranty in the Mitsu. 100,000km / 3 year in the Chevy

Given all of the above, I can make a case for getting either one - The Chevy is more 'luxurious/serious' whilst the Mitsu is 'lighter' and 'sportier'. However, as I previously stated though, the deal breaker/maker will be what the individual dealer offers me for my current car. Chevy has offered 440k. I have yet to hear from Mitsu. I informed both firms I wanted 500k.

    Prices:

    Mitsu EX GLS-Ltd 889,000 (+10,000k for white!)

Cruze LS 900,000 (+25,000 for leather interior)

If Mitsu come back offering me 500k, that leaves me with 389,000 over 5 years, about 7,200 per month. Chevy is 460,000k over 5 years is about 8,500.

They are so closely matched, that it is often something like the trade in price that can be that 'swing vote'... so I guess the ball is in Mitsu's court to lose.

Hopefully this has been useful to some readers - it has helped me too... writing out your thoughts can be quite handy :-)

    All comments/feedback are welcome!

    Cheers

    James

I've never driven the Mitsubishi, but I believe you if you say the mitsu transmission felt different and sportier.

The Cruze is a cruiser. Save as much gas as possible and give you a nice relaxed drive.

I didn't buy a mitsubishi because i don't like the interior. As you point out, the Cruze's interior is best in class.

I also bought the LS. 16" wheels. The tires on the LTZ are a different brand and size than the ones on the LS. Mine are quiet.

Think about it. They're both similarly priced and spec'd. Tough one. Go with the one that tugs on your heart strings.

Also, the leather is 20-25,000, true, but my salesperson gave it to me for 5,000 (from 20,000). So, I say go shop around to other dealers. You may get a better deal.

My LS was 880,000 with the leather.

  11. I know nothing about the Cruze mechanically but I did have a chance to look one over. I really like the exterior design and the interior is as nice or nicer than the rest I have seen.

Yes. Pretty much what the New York Times said also. It gets better when you drive it, but don't expect a sporty experience. It's just a nice, quiet relaxed drive.

I think for sporty better the new Focus 2012, but that's not here yet.

  12. Sorry but this is a shit thread about a grocery getter. The OP is a salesman, end of story.

Short measure of coke was more interesting. NOTHING in this thread puts the ride above the rest.

A thread in a forum can't do anything. What puts it above the rest is driving it.

And I am not selling anything, I'm just another teacher in Thailand. I bought it, I like it and you guys can't take it for some reason.
