  1. He paid his policy and the insurance company entered into an agreement to cover him. He then had an accident where he had to claim. After that accident the insurance company should have told him that any further claims would be refused. Whether they considered him reckless or not ( he was not driving just a passenger so this is higly debatable ) they still had a contract with him and as such should pay the claim.

The only question here is why he departed from his head? Also find it very peculiar that they only filed an arrest warrant for his head?

Story continues....is his head still in the country or did it leave with the rest of the body? Stay tuned for our next episode of this great mystery!

If he was last seen near Mapruchan lake his body parts could be residing in many different provinces.

  3. I got a new passport book by application. The old book was returned with the corner cut off to invalidate it, with my existing visas.

I have stapled both together. When I leave the country they check the visa in the old book and stamp the exit in the new one. Had to get a police report the other day. They used the new book for my details but with the visa from the old attached book.

    works fine for me.

  4. A step forwards, but the main issue is being ignored.

While the punishment for most crimes here is totally pathetic, people will still carry knives and guns, happily cause road rage accidents, and engage in gang related crimes.

Install FUNCTIONAL CCTV's around towns, give courts the powers to hand out meaningful custody, fines and confiscation and attitudes will change.

If penalties for "general crime' were treated the way that the authorities pursue lese majeste, crime would be halved within weeks.

Yes I am a dreamer, not in my lifetime....

There is nothing to worry about," he added. "Pattaya is a quality place that is of a world standard".

    Was he referring to :-

    1.  The pavements which, in the unlikely event they exist on most sois, are blocked or have gaping potholes

    2.  The smooth running of the traffic, particularly weekends

    3.  The extensive pedestrian crossings of busy roads, was it 3 or 4 in the whole town

    4.  The crystal clear waters of the bay

    5.  The mindset of the police, warning people not to go out at night wearing jewelry

    Can't be bothered to type 6 - 43

Would be interesting to hear which world standard he is referring to.

  6. Nice to see te voices of doom alive, well and in such fine voice.

Just met 4 people on the bus to Pattaya from Suvarnabhumi going for a two centre holiday, one week there then going to Hua Hin. They booked their trip because of a recommendation from some friends who did same trip two weeks ago.

    Apologies for my optimism.

  7. The person with their finger on the button was a bit slow today. BBC World News started a feature about " the appalling death rate on Thailand's roads making them the most dangerous in the world" before they blanked the screens.

Was anyone watching on a VPN who could tell me what the gist of the story was ?

  8. Over the last year a road near us has become a race track for young motorbike riders. It is dead straight for 1.5 km until it finishes by becoming a farm track. It is accessed at a crossroads with traffic lights, so it is the perfect venue for the drag racing that goes on between 10pm and 4am.

The area is well populated and all of us get treated to the roar of bikes as the rev away when the lights change.

We and dozens of others phone the police nightly. Often they attend but nothing happens because of two factors. Either the riders are under 16, so the police claim they are powerless to stop them and can only talk to them, or they have no number plates and give false details. Either way the police arrive and depart empty handed. Recently one local appeared to take matters into his own hands when his pickup mysteriously swerved in front of a bike doing over 100km, separating it from the rider. It is only a matter of time before a fatality occurs.

Why does the government have no interest in changing this ? Once a large fatality occurs, as it did in Bang Na recently, they jump for the microphones, but there is no appetite to do anything about road racing throughout the country.

So much could be stopped in a instant.

    - Any minor found on a bike would have it confiscated, and the parents fined

    - Anyone driving without number plates would have the vehicle confiscated

    - Make road racing illegal. The authorities act on lese majeste in a flash, I am sure even the could draft legislation that could have teeth. Anyone with two convictions would lose their licence for 5 years.

The number of road deaths would be cut and thousands would enjoy a good night's sleep.
