I put this in the pub because that's where it probably belongs. I need some help from the statistics wonks out there... Apparently, there are 178 seats in the Alaska Air with the blown door plug. There were 171 passengers on the plane. The plane had been relegated to flights over land because of a cabin pressurization alarm. The 2 seats right next to the blown plug were empty, probably saving a couple of passengers from injury (or worse) Here's the question for the statistics gurus: What are the odds that those 2 seats would be among the 7 on the plane that were empty, given random seat allocation? The wingnut in me suspects the seats were empty because of a whooshing noise on previous flights. And subsequent investigation showed that the 4 bolts holding the plug on that plane were missing. Not loose, apparently...missing. I haven't seen any discussion here of this incident, which I would think would be of interest to the globetrotters here on an Expat website. Please, tell me how wrong I am... Or any other thoughts on the incident... https://edition.cnn.com/2024/01/08/us/alaska-airlines-plug-door-found-investigation-monday/index.html https://edition.cnn.com/2024/01/08/us/what-happened-alaska-airlines-flight-1282/index.html

If Senate immigration bill is passed Biden vows to Shut Down Border
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
He'd take a cue from the headlines and sue them instead. But seriously, if they're breaking federal law (and they are), the executive branch is the one charged with prosecuting them. -

And all it would take is an executive order. Which is why the idea that they need to appropriate more $$ billions is ludicrous. But much of that money will go to NGO's and other donor groups (on both sides) raking it in on the taxpayer dime. And kicking a lot of it back in the form of donations. So I'm sure the bill they pass will be a whopper. -

Thanks for reminding me... Also, like years past, if you hire anyone without a work permit, you should pay a huge fine. How will they support themselves? Present yourself to any local police station and we'll buy you a plane ticket home and give you a ride to the airport. (That's even kinder than Thailand) -
When I was a kid, my brothers and I used to tease each other mercilessly. It was a game because the one who threw the first punch was always the one who got in trouble. Reading the history leading up to 2014 and 2022 reminds me of that game. But on a tragic scale. And eventually, Mom and Dad caught on. Like a lot of people around the world have caught on. Just not the ones who pine for war. Ukraine lost. Crimea's gone (on Obama's watch). Donbas is gone (on Biden's). The sooner that reality is accepted, the sooner the dying and the spending stop and the sooner the rebuilding can start.

That's 1.8 million illegals a year, normalized and codified. If that doesn't kill the deal, there is something rotten in the state of Denmark. No laws need be passed and not a dime more needs be spent. Just executive action to stop the legalization process for anyone that enters in violation of already existing laws. Cross anywhere but a legal port of entry, and you are disqualified from working in the USA until you go back and do it legally. Do that twice and you can never work in the USA. -
Trump is dominating the primaries. That doesn’t mean he’ll beat Biden
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
You mean like the German delegates laughed at him when he suggested they not tie their economy to Russian energy? And now the German economy is in the toilet because of high energy costs? Lord forgive me, but I can't help but smile every time I read how bad it's getting. My apologies to the good, innocent German people. But you voted for them... -
If the Democratic controlled NY congress and Guv'ner hadn't signed the magic limited extension period into law, this lawsuit couldn't have happened. Nor the rape case. And no. I don't believe her. Filing a lawsuit almost 30 years later for a rape that she can't even remember what year it happened. In a public place, where all she had to do at the time was find store security to report it. Not to mention all the "Me Too" cases that have been shut down when CCTV video showed the woman to be a very willing participant that just changed her mind later. The case stinks of lawfare and election interference and money grubbing, on several levels. Even if it wasn't Trump in the dock.

Sure he is. As long as someone else counts the change. And he has to stay in the truck, away from the little girls' hair. -
Yeah. 'Cause Dems (and the complicit MSM who hate Trump) are really going to say that quiet part out loud... Bottom line, if she filed the same lawsuit today, it would be dismissed under the statute of limitations. But for that magic time window, she was able to attack Trump in court with a rape that she can't even remember what year it happened. Pardon me if I don't believe it.

On May 24, 2022, Governor Kathy Hochul signed the Adult Survivors Act (ASA) into law, which gives survivors of sexual assault an opportunity to heal and seek justice. The Adult Survivors Act creates a special one-year look-back window to allow survivors whose case or claim expired outside the statute of limitations, and who were 18 or older when they were sexually assaulted in New York State, to file a lawsuit against the person who harmed them and/or the negligent institution. The one-year window will begin on November 24, 2022 and will allow survivors to sue, even if they were already outside of the civil statute of limitations. But the timing is just coincidental, and this isn't about getting Trump in an election year, is it? https://www.safehorizon.org/programs/adult-survivors-act-qa/

Not here in China where Google's blocked. I have to use Bing. And that's a link to an article saying there will be a trial. Nothing about the progress of the trial which may be embarrassing to the "most secure election in history" crowd. A bic pen and 7 seconds is all it took to hack into the machines. If the trial were about Trump, they'd be shouting it from the rooftops.

I mis-spoke. The plaintiffs have rested their case. Now the defense is up. There's a lot more regarding methods to manually and by USB card take over the machines, change votes and erase audit logs, well worth getting eyeballs singed looking at some of the right wing stuff that I can't link. But here's an appetite whetter... The plaintiffs’ case included a demonstration by Halderman, the University of Michigan computer scientist, about ways to hack the state’s voting machines. One involved using a pen to hold the machine’s power switch for seven seconds. At that point, Georgia Tech computer science professor Richard DeMillo told Atlanta Civic Circle, “you’ve taken over the machine … and can install software or crash the machine.” Despite Halderman’s demonstration, the state treated the vulnerabilities as “theoretical,” DeMillo said. State election officials countered that such a hack has never happened in an actual Georgia election. Halderman acknowledged that there is no evidence that the vulnerabilities he demonstrated for the voting machine have actually been exploited. “The state responded stupidly,” said DeMillo, who founded Georgia Tech’s cybersecurity program and has given testimony in support of the plaintiffs’ case. “In engineering, if there’s a bad bolt on a bridge, it’s going to collapse some day. The fact that it hasn’t doesn’t mean anything.” https://atlantaciviccircle.org/2024/01/25/state-doesnt-understand-the-technology-plaintiffs-rest-their-case-in-trial-over-georgias-voting-machines/

After Trump’s NH win, Biden gets the opponent he wants
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Where I come from, we refer to that as buying votes. Also, throwing money against the wall to see what sticks. It'll be years before we see if any of his infrastructure pays out, or just a bunch of boondoggles for votes and donations from the beneficiaries. Gotta say, I watched parts of the so called speech and I'm impressed by the transcriber's ability to translate Klingon. Or whatever language he was using. Because the transcript, as bad as it looks, is a lot more lucid than the speech was. -
My bad. I queried their site for dominion and georgia and got no result. That's an announcement of a trial that's already been completed (except the ruling) Have they updated with the results, since the trial has concluded? Like the fact that the machine expert (Haldeman) was able to hack them and change votes with a bic pen? Strangely, I just binged up dominion and bic pen and got a lot more recent results than dominion and georgia. Seems I underestimated the MSM... Newsweek and MSN, anyway. Still crickets from CNN and no trial results from Politico.

U.S. lists Houthis as terrorists, rebels hit another US-operated ship
impulse replied to Amethyst's topic in World News
Houthis weren't on the radar like Hamas back then. They are now. And they know that the only way to hurt the USA isn't on the battlefield. What choices does that leave them? Ya figure that big, open border may give them...ideas? -
Here's one. Not even a right wing site. Just the facts. https://atlantaciviccircle.org/2024/01/25/state-doesnt-understand-the-technology-plaintiffs-rest-their-case-in-trial-over-georgias-voting-machines/ Here's another, not right wing at all: https://www.securityinfowatch.com/cybersecurity/news/53083058/georgia-breach-highlighted-as-voting-machine-trial-opens Here's the latest from CNN, about 6 months ago. You'd think they'd cover this month's trial, but nope. https://edition.cnn.com/2023/06/14/politics/dominion-voting-georgia-vulnerabilities-2024/index.html But the MSM? Crickets... I'll have to let you scrounge through the right wing stuff that's not approved. Lots more information there. Google "bic pen".
-
You're going to have to give me a hint. I just binged CNN Georgia Dominion and the most recent result is from last summer. I queried CNN's site and got nothing more recent... Nothing on Politico searching Georgia Dominion, either. Got a link for any of those MSM sites? I'd give you my links, but they're not approved sources.

After Trump’s NH win, Biden gets the opponent he wants
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Wow. Even with a ton of lipstick applied by his lackeys, this pig isn't comprehensible. He talked about infrastructure. Every week, when — for four years, he was going to increase the infr- — “We’re at ‘Infrastructure Week.’” Well — (laughs) — we have Infrastruc- — Infrastructure Year. (Laughter.) He didn’t get — on my watch, instead of Infrastructure Week, America is having an Infrastructure Decade. (Applause.) https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/speeches-remarks/2024/01/25/remarks-by-president-biden-on-investing-in-america-and-the-bipartisan-infrastructure-law-superior-wi/ And I still don't know how to spell all those words he made up. -
Recommendations for Doctor that treats Acid Reflex/Gerd (BKK)
impulse replied to Dan747's topic in Health and Medicine
If you find satisfaction, please post back. I have spent thousands and thousands of $$$ (and that was copay, after insurance probably paid tens of thousands) over the decades, only to end up on Omeprazole for the past 20 years. (Drives some of my doctors crazy, but it was either that, or shoot myself for relief because they had nothing else that worked). Before Omeprazole became generic and OTC, it was Famotidine. Before that, it was baking soda and Tums, going back to the early '80s. Find a good doctor, for sure. If you want some relief in the meantime, I have found that Miracid brand Omeprazole to be the most reliable in Thailand. Some of the other brands were hit and miss. Every pharmacy has it. -
Do you really need an onward flight?
impulse replied to Jack1988's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Like Clint says, when you walk up to the departure ticket counter: “You’ve got to ask yourself one question: ‘Do I feel lucky?” Well, do you...?'” Flying visa exempt, I get asked about 1/3 the time in my 10 entries since Covid. Not, of course, when it's the outgoing leg of a R/T ticket on the same airline and they can see it on their screen... About 75% of the time if you exclude those. So I wouldn't risk it unless I had an app to buy a ticket on the spot. Mostly Chinese airlines and Scoot. Never asked by immigration, but I always wear a collared shirt, long pants and a smile. And I have a pretty clean record of coming and going...
