"Over 210,000 people have informed the Election Commission (EC) of their wish to run as a Senate candidate and the EC expects at least 100,000 candidates to run."
More like, "the EC will allow 100,000 candidates to run". Why would 210,000 people inform the EC they wish to run and then suddenly 110,000 decide they don't want to? Farcical

Apart from this case looking to be another useless and corrupt episode by the BIB and the chances of this bloke being innocent being extremely high when he was found guilty this was his senetence. Two years and eight months. Two years and eight months for the rape of a five year old. Say something bad about the king and you can get >15 years. Of course due to the BIB the actual perpetrator is still around somewhere.
That's the first part that made my jaw dropped. It then dropped some more when later in the report it mentions that the case was dismissed by another court, which only resulted in his sentence being reduced? WTAF. So we've learned two bizarre things: 1) rape penalties are ridiculously light and 2) you can have a case dismissed but remain in prison.

2 of my wife's school friends are mid ranking police and the son of one of my Thai friends is also police. I've asked them questions as to their opinions of Big Joke and they say that they don't believe he's corrupt. One of my wife's friends resigned from the RTP last month (took early retirement) because he was fed up with all the corruption his colleagues were involved in, and he was not prepared to pay 2 million baht for promotion to the next rank. They also said that BJ knows where all the skeletons in the closet are and that all this current notoriety is just another attempt to get rid of him so he doesn't become #1 in the RTP. They also made a very interesting comment along the lines of if he did leave the RTP and move into politics he would be in a better/stronger position to bring down the rampant corruption within the RTP.
Was he prepared to pay for the promotion to his current rank though (not as expensive) or was it purely a merit promotion?

But the government claim that over songkran the numbers are higher, so it doesnt add up. And it doesnt add up that it is lower over songkran because it is not lower, it meets the yearly average, that means the same not lower
either way, it does not add up!
Your maths aint mathingI've never heard them claim that's it's higher, but they always dub it the "7 deadly days" to make the people think about driving safer. Labling some days as deadly isn't the same as saying they're more dangerous than other days.

Interesting take, since the paragraph preceding this one states...

How can you pay out on an outcome that has been officiated yet, if not for some sort of pre-arranged fixing?

Does anybody have any insight into the veracity of the claims made in this article? Anecdotal reports on this forum used to point to GHB not wanting to have anything to do with foreigners. However, this article references loans being issued to Thai nationals abroad based on their foreign spouses income (which would be very handy). The GHB website itself does not seem to have this option, but according to some sources in Thai it is possible.

Because most of the brainwashed populace inherently believe that some individuals are literally above the law and have semi-deity status. They do not understand what a constitutional monarchy is. Many people forget that despite being "above politics" there were changes made to the constitution AFTER the referendum vote last time - totally illegal, but done by a god so it was overlooked.

Not true at all. Gambling is not legal during a wedding or funeral (just because you see it happening doesn't mean it's legal)
Gamblin is, however, legal at horse racing (which is indicative of how nonsensical many laws in Thailand are.

"Police reform may be easier than everyone thinks"
But the entire article seems to point towards an impossible path to reform of deeply embedded corruption. Nowhere in the article is suggested any "easy" solutions. And that maybe the real truth.
Those who are supposed to enforce the rule of law distort and abuse the rule of law. This destructive culture might stem from decades of military direct and indirect control of the nation punctuated with frequent military coups that defy the rule of law and Thai people's sovereignty.
It's just a typical Tulsathit Taptim word salad. Save your braincells and avoid reading his dribble in the future.

What happened to reporting? Remember the "good old days" where pertinent information in an article would be included e.g. "Kick is a streaming service where users blah blah blah". You know, just a sentence to ensure that the readers actually understand the rest of the article. Also, are Jino and Johnny Somali the same person, or is the Johnny Somali paragraph a hard segue referencing yet more information not fully explained.
The rule is: if your reader needs to use Google to understand most of your article, you've done a <deleted> job.

PR holders need a re-entry visa (non-quota immigrant visa) in order to be able to retain PR if they wish to travel abroad. This visa is good for one year and the PR holder has to be back in Thailand before it expires.
You are indeed correct. Out of interest, can this be applied for at the port of exit, or does one need to go to immigration, get a ticket, and go through the whole tedious process where 4/5 people check the same documents before giving you the stamp?

Er, no it's not.Requirements are largely the same and in my opinion in some ways more inconvenient. It's cheaper though.
True, cheaper is not necessarily easier per se 👍. Now for Thai citizenship, it definitely is easier if married (especially for foreign women), but that's neither here nor there with regards to this thread.

IF you are not married the requirements for becoming a Thai passport (citizen) is more difficult than "only" becoming a permanent resident!
Anyway without working (paying taxes) both states are almost impossible.
No, I mean that the requirements for getting permanent residency is easier when one is married. I am not talking about becoming a Thai citizen (which incidentally is easier when married too.)
I am responding to Mike Lister who is conflating two separate legal statuses that can be held in Thailand: Permanent Residency and Thai Citizenship. They are not the same thing at all.

If you are a permanent resident, you never have to apply for annual extensions, reentry permits or do 90 day reporting etc. You can't, however, vote or buy land.
The process is different if you are married vs single e.g. if you are single you need to have an income of 80,000 THB per month whereas if you are married it is only 30,000. The exact requirements are updated every few years.

Well, they don't want to tackle gambling. They want a piece of the pie - legal gambling = increase tax revenue. The people in Thailand will continue to gamble whether it's legal or not. However, legal gambling can be a cash cow for the government and "safer" for gamblers etc.

Incorrect - you can become a permanent resident and not be Thai citizen. The requirements are different depending on whether you are married or not.

Are you pivy to the information that he actually played a direct part in the selection, like voting for current government, remember not all senators voted yes.
If you willing participate in this incarnation of the senate, you are complicit. Nobody forced these senators to take the role, but they all know and understand how the senate has unbalanced power. Not voting "yes" in a false show of neutrality does not wash your hands of the injustice committed by the senate (and its masters).

"The proceeds were used to purchase kratom juice and cannabis for consumption."
The obligatory "kratom and cannabis bash" slipped into the caption. So we're not expected to believe that the proceeds were used for anything else like food or clothes or petrol or booze or literally dozens of expenses that we all have (criminals included)?? Absolute trash reporting from KhaoSod.

VAT is paid at point of sale (retail), but the wholesalers and/or retailers pay import duties when they take possession of goods.

Well, one would assume that the current stock on the shelves in your local shop were purchased weeks or months prior, so can't expect the retailers to just take a loss for your benefit. However, it would be interesting to see by how much prices go down in 7/11 et al next month. I will be surprised if they go down at all.

Showering won't make a dent as water is practically free.
AC can run 500 - 3000 Baht depending on how many units are on.
You shouldn't pay any commission to anyone (that's the owner's problem)
What's your budget per month?
