It's getting to the point it maybe better to take your chances with covid

    Yep.

I had my annual quad 4 flu shot a few days ago ,the young competent Doctor suggested that at my age I should also have the PCV 13 for lung protection,(phumonal) which I did. In passing he said "with both these you probably don't need the covid vac" , which I thought was an interesting comment.

I beg to differ on this statement when I use my Be 1st Union pay card. All the places I shop at in Pattaya require a PIN for every transaction however big or small, but at some places for some amounts I agree that a signature is not required. The Be 1st mastercard could have different rules, but doubtful being the same parent bank.

Same, some PTT service stations not only require my pin but a signature also, weird.

Ready for your COVID-19 jab? Thailand’s inoculation plan explained

    AP21057455904923.jpg

Thailand’s COVID-19 inoculation programme will likely kick off on Sunday, with top government figures receiving the first jabs to boost public confidence. The vaccine brings hope that the country’s year-long virus nightmare may soon be over.

If the vaccine rollout proves a success, the government will regain public faith, the economy will rebound, and life will finally – albeit slowly – get back to normal.

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha is due to be the first person in Thailand to get a COVID-19 shot, with Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul next in queue. They will receive their jabs at Nonthaburi’s Bamrasnadura Infectious Disease Institute, which has laid down a model vaccination procedure for other medical facilities to adopt.

More than 80 garment workers were injured when their truck slid off the road and turned over in a rice field in Takeo province’s Bati district yesterday. District governor Phuong Chhim said that a truck carrying garment workers crashed into the rice field at 6am yesterday while travelling on a village road.

He said some of the injured workers were sent to Takeo referral hospital and some to the provincial hospital. He said there were no deaths. According to Chhim, the accident was caused by the overloaded truck speeding on a slippery road.

After the incident, the driver escaped. Last week, the Ministry of Public Works announced plans to conduct a survey on vehicles carrying garment workers to ensure road safety, as the cases of traffic accidents involving factory transport continue to raise concerns.

    Genuine question.

If   a Thai is tested positive....Must they then go to one of these "hospital beds" ......to be ...isolated? I mean , those who have tested positive, but have no symptoms at all?  Or do they isolate at home...for the isolation period?

I was talking online today, with a Thai friend, They went for a covid test today...said they will get the results in 4-5 days?!!! If they wanted  the result back in 24 hours, it would cost them 3,800 baht?

I very much doubt many many ordinary Thais can afford to pay the 3,800 baht......very tricky times for Thailand ...

I appreciate  it probably costs more , to get a faster test result turnaround...but 4-5 days.........wow thats a long time.....They could possibly infect many other people in that time.....(if they self isolate straight after taking test...as In U.K. etc...then fine   no worries.)  I somehow doubt though, the ordinary Thai can afford to self isolate? No money no food etc?

Hard times ahead, I really hope its not too serious, and they can get on top of it.

Re Test costs, I was told yesterday by a Bkk government hospital , for Thais from a dangerous area ie, high number of cases, test cost is free, Thais from a non dangerous area cost is 2600 (Huh?). Foreigners 2600 across the board .Didn't ask time frame.

Troops sent to border after outbreak, Army setting up Samut Sakhon field hospital

    By The Nation

PM Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday ordered a military operation to patrol Thailand’s borders, following an outbreak of Covid-19 linked to illegal migrants from Myanmar.

The order came after Wednesday’s meeting of the Defence Council, which was chaired by Prayut in his capacity as defence minister

The PM ordered military personnel to help in patrol the border and prevent entry of illegal migrant workers both by land and sea, said Defence spokesman Kongcheep Tantravanich.

He also ordered the police to set up a special committee to investigate corrupt officials at all levels involved in the smuggling of migrant workers into the country.

Meanwhile police and soldiers were ordered to set up checkpoints on known migrant-trafficking routes to protect at-risk border provinces.

The Army and Navy were also ordered to deploy personnel and medical equipment to establish a 1,000-bed field hospital in Samut Sakhon, where the latest has spawned more than 1,200 cases. The military is currently seeking a suitable factory or residential building to house the hospital close to the outbreak’s epicentre in order to contain the spread of the disease.

If they are known migrant trafficing routes, why wouldn't you have an outpost already there.

    Oops silly me.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have not tried calling the bank but I doubt I will get very far. My banks are Bendigo bank (the one that has cut the online e-banking). The other is Westpac. Both banks recovery and change of daily limits etc requires they send you a one time password. The problem that needs to go to an Australian cell#. I have tried unsuccessfully to have it sent to my sons number and have him on standby to give me the OTP. Didn't work. Perhaps I have some registered # with them.

I am with Westpac, no issues gave them my Thai cell number to send password # .Then change to my Aust mobile when in Oz. They Also have international number, ring on Skype they will call back if you want.

    Hi there,

Taught English in Thailand 10 years ago, moved back to UK with family to get wife passport. Got MSc, Wells Completion Engineer - 7 years. Want to move back to Thailand. Literally seen 2 jobs in last year on oilandgasjobsearch.com, oilcareers.com, linkedin.

Can anyone recommend the best places to look for onshore oil jobs for Thailand. Any advice for my predicament - fancy living in Thailand instead of other well known oil areas worldwide. Don’t want to teach again.

    Regards,

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

    This may not be helpful.

I met a chap a while back (mark) who worked for an English recruitment company based in Singapore.

Specifically for the Oil & Gas industry world wide.

Sorry cannot remember the name, maybe you could research for the Singapore based office.

    Good luck

I thought that I did a relative a great favor buying a Huawei phone a few months ago, but it was a big mistake.

The screen started to show problems after only two months and the picture got worse from day to day that we brought it to a shop where they changed the whole screen including some electronic that is attached for 1,300 baht.

Now after only two months, we are back where we were before, but the same display was now 1,800 baht. I paid it again and will never put any more money into that piece of shi_e.

The Samsung I bought at the same time never had an issue, upgraded six times and I'm more than happy with it.

Huawei seem to use the cheapest cr_p for their phones. Keep your hands off them, please.

Exactly the same scenario plus freezing up (yep know about some app issues)and Keyboard is a pain to use.

    Researching new phone as speak.
