Being an old fart I need my afternoon kip.
So apologies for only getting to page 15/53.
If this is to be a variation of the OA Visa, as suggested, then I hope that Police checks are required (for all countries lived/worked in), plus thorough checks are made on the tax paid status of the funds otherwise they will be catering to a lot of grey/black economy fundees.
Then we'll see how smug some these "rich" posters are.
Just woke up from mine !
I'm quite saddened at the nasty response of a lot of people on here, who want to see people having to leave, as though they deserve it, for being on a lower income than them. One can see how England voted for Brexit & The US voted for Trump, there is way too much nastiness in the world.
I'm so glad I avoid farangs like the plague. -

Is there a link to the Thai version of that web page section? I need to send it to my fiancee so that she will understand why the wedding is OFF. Leave it to the venal Thais to destroy lives and retirement plans of even those who are helping to prop up their corrupt economy. I won't look back once I'm living in Cambodia.
That's very sad. Hope things work out OK for you both.

For the very long stay residents, don't worry too much: are you married to a thai girl ? then just change your 50 yo VISA into a marriage VISA. (.. but more papers & controls
)
After all why not ? The reason N°1 for your stay in Thailand is not your wife ?
Hope you're right. My wife is the main reason I live here. :)

It doesn't say who can certify the documents. I can ask a lawyer. Thank you.

I've read through several pages of this and am none the wiser.
Can someone from TV's admin or moderators please sum up EXACTLY what the position is ?
Are retirement visas going to be replaced ?
Is this new visa just another option ?
Is the medical expenses retirement for ALL retirees ?
Are people on the present retirement visa exempt from the new provisions ?

Wait until they increase the eligible age to 60 ... 50 is far too low for genuine retirement
I "genuinely' retired at 52. Most of the people I worked with retired from age 50 to 55. The company allowed retirement at 50. It's not uncommon.

You can enter with either a Non 'O' (like you did) or a Non 'O-A' visa and apply for a 1 year extension of stay based on retirement. The extension of stay is the same regardless of which category of non immigrant visa you had.
It seems that they are increasing the Non Immigrant Non 'O-A' visa from 1 year to 10 years. If so, it will have no affect on 1 year extensions of stay.
This is about promoting "medical services" and anyone that wants this visa will have to buy an expensive medical insurance policy.
That's what I'm hoping for ! As I have only one kidney, health insurance would be astronomical for me.

The OA is a visa class given with a few more restrictions than the easier to obtain visa O or extension based on retirement.
Its a 1 year visa, with a 1 year permission of stay, so can be stretched to 1 day short of 2 years with careful use.
Not really a big deal, but useful if your emabssy hands them out easily (they used to much more than they do lately).
Thank you, for your help.

I agree.
Having read several sources now it seems that they are talking about replacing the 1 year Non Immigrant 'O-A' visa with a 10 year option, and it's nothing to do with the existing 1 year extensions of stay.
Can you clarify further ? I'm on a retirement extension, which I believe is "O". There are other extensions, that are "O-A" ?

What no one has mentioned is that Thai Banks only guarantee deposits up to 1 million Baht, per Bank. Are they going to amend the law on that too ? Or do they expect people to happily take such a big risk ?
-
Can the good folks who run ThaiVisa please get clarification of all this, and spell out exactly what the new regulations entail ?

We have to keep quiet :)
This article doesn't said the 1 year visa will change ! (and what about the IM and marry VISA ?)
We have to understand that if you want to apply to a 10 years VISA:
1 - You need the 1 year non-im VISA
THEN
2 - You can apply for a new 10 years VISA that will REPLACE the 1 year VISA. The 10 years VISA is not an extension, this is a NEW VISA.
I really hope you're right on this. :)

Some of this is normal proof of identity stuff. If you informed them that your wife was Tax resident in Thailand that may have triggered their request for a tax id number (whether they really need it or not). Probably best to keep the Tax Residency boxes set to UK only when dealing with a UK bank.
Sadly it seems one can't do that anymore, thanks to the introduction of the "International Tax Compliance Regulations". We Bank both in the UK, and here, but it seems, reading between the lines, that our UK Bank is trying to get rid of customers who no longer spend much time in the UK.
I didn't inform them directly. We use two addresses for our Banking business with them, depending on where we are. They have obviously dug this out of their files. -

Getting married and changing her name won't change your wife's Thai ID number / tax number. If she hasn't done already she should probably get her Thai ID card updated though to reflect the name change. :)
You're right, it didn't. We called them this morning. Thanks for your help.

this is exactly the same form the wife got. got it signed by our lawyer.very easy,so i dont know why your getting yourself in such a MUDDLE.
Sorry I completely missed your original post. I'm having some major surgery done next week, so I'm trying to sort everything out for my wife, just in case. I need this problem like a hole in the head, at the moment.
it doesn't say on the form exactly who can sign it, just that it should be certified. -
Thanks for the replies KittenKong & flecthsmile.
KittenKong - I'm soooooo tempted to give them what for, but I suspect I'll only be creating problems for myself in future !
Plus I'm too ill to travel to the UK at the moment, and for the forseeable future, so I can't make that "offer" !
fletchsmile, I think you're probably right, but my wife hasn't worked in Thailand since we married and she changed her surname, not sure if that will make a difference, to her tax id number. We're going to the local tax office to see what we can find out. The UK Bank has conveniently given us a form for her to certify her own tax number, it's the accompanying documents, (which I detailed in post 8), which they "need" to be certified. I suspect that this is just another moneymaker, for someone in the UK government, or one of their cronies. A lot of fuss about nothing, as usual, with the UK government. -
Sunderland have just turned down a £27 million pound sponsorship deal from a leading dog food brand.
A club spokesman has said having WINALOT written across their shirts is just taking the p*ss.... -
From the UK government website that OJAS was kind enough to provide a link to :
"You can’t get documents issued outside the UK legalised using this service - get them legalised in the country they were issued."
I'm hopeful our City Hall can do this. -

Friendship stocks them closer to the day. M&S have had them in previous years but again closer to the day, shelf life here isn't great. Friendship also sells Robertsons Mincemeat and frozen pastry...........
Do they sell mincemeat all the year round ? We are due to make our annual Christmas shopping trip to Pattaya over the next few weeks, and I'll get a couple of extra jars if they do. If anyone knows where we can get Brandy Snaps, or Christmas Puddings I'd appreciate a heads up, thank you. -
Thankfully it is Thai documents they have asked for.
Passport or
ID card or
Armed Forces ID card or
A Certificate of Residence (no idea what that is), or
a financial statement (no other specification for that one), or
a driving licence.
Hopefully we can get one of them certified at our local City Hall.
All of this seems a lot of fuss over nothing to me ! :) -

The crybabies need to suck it up and start accepting the Trump presidency, as I have. If he succeeds I will be better off in life. I am more fearful of what I see as the Republican establishment showing signs of 'using' him to their advantage. They despise him but will overlook his flaws as long as they get what they want out of it. The insiders (necons and old guard) who are already filling his cabinet seem to be at odds with Trump's philosophies, especially in relation to international entanglements.
But all the protesters have had their say, OK. Let's get on with the show and see what happens.
You sound exactly the same as all of the idiots that voted for Brexit, in the UK. I genuinely feel sorry for you.

Thank you, allane. She worked in several Hotels in Pattaya, but I'm not sure if she ever paid tax (she's out at the moment). We'll call at the District Office on Monday.

Thanks for your reply. I hope we don't have to go to Bangkok to get the Embassy to certify any copies, we live a long way from there !
Govt approves 10 year visas for foreigners over 50

Hope you're right - I've got nine years in. I did notice when I did my last extension that the Immigration office made a note of how long I had been here, which they'd never done before.
