  1. After the upgrade a few days ago the so-called great HD channel audio is crap.

CNN 164 has terrible audio, other channels cut out, but today is the ultimate.

The Setanta Rugby channel with one of the biggest games of the year has Thai commentary blotting out the english commentary--a f__ing mess.

With the CTH rant, and my rant it looks like technology is going backwards not forward.

    I'm pissed.

  2. Actually TWD opened a branch in Rayong earlier this year and I've used it a lot.

Not the flashest store ie: concrete floors, large tiered shelving, but a huge amount of good priced merchandise for the DIY guy (or his workers).

Staff are fine and quite knowledgeable, but needed more cashiers the times I've been there, (not really on topic, but the paint saleslady the first time I went there was probably a 10.5 outa 10 --subsequently I purchased 20 litres in small containers just to be next to her).

I think it will do well in Pattaya as the concept seems good--prices aern't much cheaper than elsewhere, but very competitive.

Be good to have an alternative to Homepro and Homeworks.

    Cheers..Tnet

  3. Same topic but a slightly different answer required.

I sold a property 5 years ago and financed 50%, But stipulated in the contract that the taxes I would payafter the 5 year loan payment would be calculated on the fees at that time (ie: 2008) as I remember them being quite low at the time (ie: special concessions put forward by the govt).

The 5 years payment period is now finished and the land must now be transferred probably at least 5 million baht as that was the amount of the registered loan on the Chanoot.

    So my 2 questions:

-What would be the approximate payment at todays tax rates

-And more importantly does anyone remember what the tax rates were in 2008, so that I can calculate on those figures also.

    many thanks for any replies..tnet

  4. The water pressure in my area has decreased over the past few months. My property is near the end of the main water line and therefore the water only trickles at times. I remember reading about installing an inline suction/vacuum type pump where the mains enter, so that you are actually 'pulling' water from the pipes.into your tanks.

if anybody has done this, or has experience or ideas then I'd be pleased to hear them.

    Thanks for any help...t

  5. Can you be more specific about the contamination you are seeing? Red color, ok- likely iron in one form or another.

Bad smell?? Is this by any chance a 'rotten egg' smell? Did it happen as soon as the well was drilled or over time? Or after a well repair by a local contractor? Has anything changed in your vicinity since the well was drilled? How old is the well?

Iron is likely I think. Smell is not so much rotten egg, just smelly (sorry can't be more specific).

Yes water like after first drilled so not a contractor problem. Apparently the water table in this area is contaminated like this.

Well is about 2 years old. we use the water for plants etc.

  6. Have apartments with roof top water tanks. Water is well filtered and clean but in some of the rooms there is a slight smell when the tap is first turned on.

The smell goes away once the first few seconds of water flow so I presume it's just a few feet of water that sits in the pipes, but they are PVC pipes so don't really understand why this happens. Any enlightening ideas would be great..thanks

  7. Well I called Truevisions in Bangsaen and told her my problem. She said the engineer would be notified.

Lo and behold he was here within two hours, found a bad LNB and I was back with clear coverage in 10 minutes.

So to me that was great service..thanks Truevisions.

Actually I have been a UBC/Truevisions customer for over 15 years and have always been impressed with their engineers service.

  8. Live in Pattaya--lately many channels have been of low quality at times--ie: pixilated screen, static sound etc.

This morning (now 10am) I have many channels like this.

Before I call Truevisions, just wanted see if anyone else is having (or had) the same problems.

    Thanks for quick replies.

  9. Hardly Pattaya is too expensive just that you got stung by the separate mixer, spirit crap that some bars pull.

A lot of Thai owned bars on walking St do it also.

Dave (and Lemoncake), I have been here 40 years and have purchased a shitpot full of LD's in that time--not a novice and so of course understand the practice especially in high rent areas such as walking str, but in Soi 6 this I believe is over the top especially since a huge % of the patrons are British guys who will be living on a pension at an exchange rate of 43/44 baht/pound soon. By the way I wasn't complaining about the soda price. Also the lady in question gets only 30 baht per drink.

Also I do understand the expensive Wine Cooler/bacardi breeze lady drink, but this wasn't the case.

So to end I was answering the OP with one of my own experiences in one SOI 6 bar and giving my own thoughts. (Sorry I was so EXPANSIVE Lemoncake).

Also I must say that many other bars on Soi 6 charge in accordance with some of the other charges on Soi 6.

If you have been here for 40 years, for starters you should have known the prices by now

Secondly you should know that soi 6 is NOT an area "frequented" by the retired pensioners living on the pension, but rather tourists and tied up guys.

Thirdly if you were not complaining about the soda prices? then what were you complaining about? LD price?

While rents on soi 6 are cheaper than Walking street, their monthly "donations" are not.

Personally if i know the price of a drink is expensive for me, i do not go into that bar.

Also personally, i been here for only 10 and i do not go to soi 6 at all and no i am not married.

    Thank you Lemon.

I must go with Transam on this---I also have goosebumps reading your answers.

Maybe you shld have an afternoon in Soi 6, just to bring you back to the same level as the rest of us.

That said I did make one mistake in including the word 'pension'. Mean't exchange rate for the majority of this streets patrons is getting lower by the day.

Also you are missing the point of my post--I didn't say the drinks were to expensive for me (money for me is not an issue), I said they were way overpriced for that particular area. Enuff said...

  11. Do the "Russian-style" approach. Go to Seven Eleven to get your alcohol then drink it along the beach prominade or while you're walking.

Actually I don't drink (coke, soda etc) but last week was in a bar at the top of Soi 6 (one back from the Corner)and while sitting with a lovely lass purchased a lady drink.

Came to pay and my bill for soda and LD was 230 baht (160 for LD and 70 for soda).

Of course you must pay otherwise problems, but these prices are just taking the piss. No wonder some of these places are empty.

Of course I won't go back (unless it's straight upstairs), but many owners (thai or falang) don't seem to care about repeat business.

  12. if you people want to think we make this stuff up good for you, Im not sure what your denial problem is. do you think I care what sort of policemen they were? I was kindof suprised the police ignored it but I think the large crowd of arabs and russians that came to my assistance had a different opinion, but who cares? I was just saying what happened. if its outside the realms of your little worlds then keep on trolling

First I'm not saying this didn't happen - I believe you, but the issue with the police not wanting to do anything is a common misconception by the public, - what did you want them to do exactly ? and that's a question to you that I'd like you to answer but consider two things first, what you would have wanted them to do and what they actually could have done are often very much at odds, I can understand your frustration and I know exactly what went on with the police because I've seen it before - you reported the incident hoping to get some action but they did nothing and you got angry with them, the reality is there was absolutly nothing they could have done except take note of the event and try to keep a watchful eye

you may be confusing me with Joe, I didnt get angry with the police, I just saw them when I was being helped up after being punched out and noticed the guy that had punched me was prancing around behind them so I approached them and said the guy had just punched me out, I was in a state of shock so my recollections may be wrong, I didnt look at their uniforms, what I remember them saying was that the guy was mafia and they couldnt help me, as I say, my memory may not be to accurate as I had just regained consciousness, I just left, the long way because I was pretty sure the guy would attack me again if I walked past him again

This is now beyond amazing--as after 62 posts WANS finally says he was also assaulted apparently by the same guy who allegedly threw the furry thing.

Anyway in his last post he has also inadvertantly cleared up the questions about the police that we wished to know.

As he's mentioned 'lots of Arabs and Russians' and 'behind them' we now know it was the City Hall Force (a salaried-no guns- force whose job it is to take care of vendors etc on WS, Beach Rd and Jomtien)) at their table near Soi 16. This is because Arabs and Russians do not go much past Tony's (other than a few couples) and the only other real Police are two Tourist Police stationed at the entrance to Walking Str with some volunteers (which is 10 minutes walk away). So my original example of possibly outside Insomnia was correct.

So to now sympathise with WANS and Joe a bit--these City Hall guys are window dressing only and would actually call the Police (or Tourist Police) if anything happened that required arrests etc. Also as a matter of information there is also a 3rd force of salaried City Hall guys/gals on WS who wear blue uniforms and have about the same amount of non-authority as the above City hall guys who wear brown uniforms.

I think we've nailed it and can go onto something else now.

  13. This thread is weird--the OP won't post anymore once asked for actual clarification on what type of police were allegedly not helpful and his mate WANS comes out of the closet after 40 odd posts and says he saw the incident but also won't offer any information either. It's obvious now that this was all of a wind up and you guys actually are telling tall stories.

Although I must admit I had a big laugh with WANS reply to 'What type of police were they'--answer 'the ones that wear uniforms'...thanks for the hilarity. So now I'll repost my question from before....

(Quote...W Joe please give us the exact time this happened and exactly where on WS it happened (ie:: 3.30am outside Insomnia)

Also which police did you report it too and where were they situated (ie: City Police at their table at Soi 16)

You posted the first report but to avoid skepticism and wrongful blame you need to provide better facts immediately...Unquote)

    Cheers....

  14. Nope.... still no real details about the police. How is the YouTube rant going?

Agree with you Nanlaew..posters like this just like stirring trouble with imaginery stories, but once asked for actual details to back up their rants, then details are non-existant. Whale Boy right now you are actually discrediting yourself---give us the 'real story' and the 'real facts' that we've all requested. Cheers.

  15. Very true. The police were hostile and uncooperative. I am going to post this to youtube.

  16. They have just moved around the corner to a bigger place (near the 7/11).

Yes some of the guys like him get a little power-hungry, but if he gets out of his problems and starts serving the public again, then good luck to him. I'm sure this time around he'll be a little more low key. For me, I like to read about all these local guys and their cases and escapades and sometimes have a good laugh, but if it doesn't harm me, or bother me in anyway then I just let it go. Some of you might try it.

  17. Ok you are nearly there.

In the address you just put the name/address of the main branch in Thailand (in this case the one you mentioned) as all inward remittances to any bank in Thailand go thru the main branch and then are shunted to the account number of the recipient wherever their acct is (in your case Mae Jo).

So your name and account nbr is all that's required. I send from my home country account online to my Bangkok Bank acct and it's no more than 24 hours (last one was 6 hours).

If you don't send more than 20,000 US$ at one time then there is no scrutiny by the Bank of Thailand.

Also if you put retirement funds for the 'reason for transfer' then there's also no scrutiny.

    Hope it helps you.

  18. Well sorry to disappoint but I renewed my Ret Visa yesterday at Jomtien and picked it up today and the 100 baht change was NOT returned either day.

This was the first time this has happened and it may have been a mistake or an oversight on their part but still p___ssed me off.

  19. @Thaiwanderer, actually there has been no spat, and 'negotiations' have been made by my Thai landlord - I have yet to set foot inside the OrBorTor office. For me, it's more a matter of principle about what 'farang' are legally allowed to do and what they cannot do.

As to the working part, I doubt very much if I could get a WP to dig dirt! I'm aware that even farting on-site can be classified as work, especially if I expend energy to emit said noxious gas. I keep a safe distance and pass instructions to my workers via a dead letter drop

    Simon

Seriously why does it matter who's name the BP is in, as it only until the building is finished and then other licences are required anyway, which will have to be in your wife's name or a company name. The BP is also used to obtain power and permissions which would be hard for you to sign for anyway, so just having the BP in your wifes name is a lot easier and better on the BP (Blood Pressure this time).

  20. There were two other chanotes, unrelated to that landlocked 1yarn between the lane way and that 1 yarn. That 1 yarn has never had access. The closest bit of that lane way is ever to the 1 yarn was about 130m, in a straight line. On the two Chanotes that we own, it has never had rights of access, nor thought the land that one of our chanotes had access through.

The 1 yar is less than 20m from what we believe to be a legal gov Soi, but that owner has also denied access.

Much of our land, and particularly near this 1yarn was swamp, we have spent millions of baht of over 3500 truck loads of rock and dirt fill and attain full legal access. Now this jerk says great, I will use that for my house.

Lots of fun and games, I will keep you posted so more people can learn. At least the local "headman" is supporting us. He took great offence when the jerk told him he had never got more than one replacement chanote and several have been found now.

Headman also want us to buy it, so that the proceeds can be dived up between the people who have been ripped off, he is trying to at least do the right thing by everyone concerned.

having trouble visualising it - how does he currently access?

If a piece of land is landlocked then it must be given 'right of way'--this is the way it works. It will be up to the land office to decide whether it's thru your land or the swampy dirt road, but access he will have. Village headmen, lawyers and walls are not going to help with this. But you can decide what part of your land is given up for his access ie: it doesn't have to be in a straight line.

Also please enlighten everyone---what is 1 yarn (perhaps ngarn?).

  21. Does anyone or a bar have anyway of getting live (or delayed) coverage of the All Blacks vs England game this Saturday night.

Of course with the SA channel not available, Astro out and the Australia Network not showing any games--then are we screwed?.
