  1. would be nice if the thai police in the article would take a pic of what teh darn skimmer looks like and the set up but would that be too much trouble - will look on you tube.....

vid on what to look for

outside block sends data info to mobile phone !

    heavy groove on the tunes

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8fnh8anlTs

this one in german but - fake keypad, short insert slot fake piece, and overhead camera add into the top for pin number

best way is to put one hand over the other to hide the pin number you enter....

  2. ah ha - the Russian tourist visa ATM skimmer scammers on holiday - lovely - I hope this one type of tourist that gets kicked out on multiple visa runs.... been lucky - I haven't been skimmed yet but it looks like quite a few from russia, romania and other eastern euro countries are doing the holiday side work here... other countries a s well so shouldn't say just eastern europe guys....

but yes - cover your hand on the pin numbers from a camera and try to use only a real bank ATM only... especially is downtown bkk, pattaya and phuket. anmd all tourist areas....

  3. How do the Thais know he fell rather he was pushed.

Don't speculate about anything at this point my friend... A gap year is time to expand your horizons, perhaps live a dream and take a break from the routine that other studies have hogtied you for years. It's a time to explore the world refreshed and really understand all that's in it.

To all the family and friends... nothing I can really say can you help compensate for your loss. I can only say I've been there, and I know it hurts.

Local Drunk - off topic but is your icon pic from an old Heavy Metal mag cartoon? thought I had seen it as I had downloaded all the old HM mags

  4. re CC non payment - visa came right to the work of a friend of my wife's - as she didn't answer any letters sent to negotiate payments that weren't being made - they garnashied her big 8000 bt a month salary for 4000 bt a month...also in all this meantime... if your buddy gets a whiff of being kicked out - you also might come home one day and find all your stuff cleared out if he can hook up a pick up truck...yes evicting him might be painful - but you can't move out and let him stay as then you are liable for any damage and non rent payment...dunno - what will it cost to get out of a lease? myself I might have to say look - here is 2-3-4000 bt for getting your stuff out the door and you are going to have to hire a pick up and move it... but then you better be prepared to stay until he does... like on a weekend - or you might have your stuff gone...

  5. with the correct paperwork - embassy letter translated to thai to say I was legal to marry - that cost 2500 at the us emb and 500 bt to translate the page - chang wattana imm building.... all that stuff...

take all that paperwork over to the rangsit Amphur - wait 20-30 minutes - pay 40 bt only for 2 nice printed pages with flowers on the borders for your official married in thailand paperwork.. damn... doesn't get much cheaper than 40 bt for 2 thais to get married - or falung and thai after the falung pays the big embassy price for the legal page.... 5 5 5

now divorcing might cost a bit more ....

  6. whatever you do - don;t let the used car salesman see you - gf can record using a mobile unless you already bought the pen recorder...but also be careful - remeber the taxi driver who killed the falung on suk soi 50 for a 51bt cab fare? but for the principle of it - yes must want to do it - don;t force her to get into a fight with a used car shark over 9000 bt.... i have "given more than that away in "loans" to thai friends and family and you can't ever expect to get paid back... the company gardner asked for 3000 bt one year for school for his kid - i would have taken 300 bt a month for 10 months - but after 6 months went by I asked the boss to get it paid back - on principle - which it was finally...anyway - would maybe be better if gf and dad and brother went all togeher first time and got it figured out once... again - only if they all want to do it.... sounds like a verbal deal over a 2nd hand car sale... which should have been taken care of whenever the car was sold and at that time.... memory is getting shorter on this planet with a lot of people - me included...... 5 5 5 good luck ...

rule number 164 here : Never do any money dealings with anyone here without having something on paper and signed by both parties....

have more stories but just too much to type... crazy stuff...

  7. if you are here legally - I think you could buy and sell a bike with all the papers thru a thai GF or a thai friend you could trust... key word being trust...I am paying off a honda small 125cc bike in my wife's name to a big bike shop that sells a lot of bikes...pay every month at 7/11 counter service... i have 2 dirty bike shops on my street where the guys are always working on choppers of all sorts - harley's and copies - some real ones - some not so nice...but to buy and sell a good big bike you better have it in a thai's name even if you call it personal use and fix one up then sell it..... or go thru a big bike dealer store - again - paperwork in a thai name...again - all that being said you could be not legal doing it - but one at a time and not in your name... also you have all the rules and regs of illegal engine modifying if over the cc's.... Imet a brit out here one day - got his big 1100cc BMW touring bike up from Malaysia... cost him 70,000 bt for the license plate and he said it took 6 months to get it thru... then - every sunday he takes it out for a drive he gets stopped by cops that just want to have a look at it and also check out he has all the proper papers on it... so you have to be careful...

I think the best way would be to get to a big custom thai bike dealer and try to get them to do a work permit... but then you are on the payroll and would be working full time...

seriously tho - if I work on my car and fix it up and sell it in my wife's name in my spare time i cannot see a problem...but if they grabbed the guys building a boat in their own yard then yes could be trouble...

  8. i have a good 90 day story - been here 14 years - but i always write down on a calendar at home and at work... but yes if you go out then you get to refigure the 90 from date back in - about 8 years ago i was late 40 days - first time - thought it was 200 bt per day late fee...( i think it is 200bt per day up to 2 thou max - now 5 thou max? yikes..) so I take 8000 bt out and drive down to the old imm building off Sathorn and shown up right a 1 pm with my 8 thou in my wallet... the lady didn't even look at the overdue date and gave me the new slip... was I ever happy.... 5 5 5

but yes - have to jot down the day asap when back in or if you are out a lot you can get the 90 days screwed up real quick...

  9. also - sorry for the rant... the gov here wants "The Vote" before reforms as it is pretty sure of winning the majority - but what about a vote for the 3 muslim provinces as well... maybe not to seperate from thailand but would be curious to see what the percentage would beto serperate or at least have more say... but of course their taxes could also stay there and some things could be done to help the locals - but if nobody is talking then the bombs just keep blowing up...aside from forming a new country or annexing to malaysia? what do these terrorists actually want to stop the violence ?

  10. amazing nobody was killed and it says 10 injured but not life threatening.... of course the gov has left the south alone and now 5 months of no gov really.... I wonder what would happen if the 3 souther provinces actually did a Referendum vote like Crimea just did and scotland is doing way down in september... hmmm... if they voted like Crimea did - maybe the usa would have to step in and appoint an interim PM and leaders to go after teh "terrorists" in the south of Thailand just like what has been done in the Ukraine...but seriously... the south has not had a vote to leave thailand yet ?

it's a darn good thing Thailand doesn't need to borrow 18+ billion from the IMF - cause it would be a whole new ballgame here....and who knows where these guys are getting their bomb making materials from? home made from Tesko and the local fertilizer shops or maybe Malay or who else would be wanting to supply them...the good ol C of IA just for fun and practice? they seem to be great at killing teachers, monks, rubber plantation workers and also quite a few thai army guys and police... I would sit down and give them some self autonomy and get some projects going that the money could be controlled somehow so it goes to muslim schools and stuff and not into buying more guns and bombs...but what do i know - i'm just a dumb falung here for 14 yrs in bangkok....

  11. "bangkok" drag race road is on Klong 6 in thanyaburi - just up past the outer ring rd. on the Nakorn Nayok-Rangsit rd.... I haven't been there but i live out here... a couple or three years ago - 2 kids racing with say 3 girls in the back seat of each car had a smack up and one car flew into klong 6 and killed either all in the car or some of them... there is a sign on NN-Rangsit rd that says Bangkok Drag Street up there about klong 5...it may be a privately run part of the road but it sure isn't accident free... but maybe a good place to drag race but don't bump the other car and fly off into the klong.... or get shot during a shoot out by rival car racer gangs is all I can say...

    stevev blunder

  12. 555 racist against Falungs....company car i drive with company insurance - was told by the boss - if a non employee drives it and has a problem the insurnace is void...but pretty sure anyone can get insurance - but if an accident and no license -then no moolah from insurance company - or maybe the car gets fixed but you don't... also a buddy who is paying his 6 month new honda off... insurance co. first said no insurance without a license - and he is right between jobs - is on a tourist visa - and no driver license without a work permit he was told... anyway - insurance co. got him insurance at a 20% premium.... so the car is insured... but he just got stopped 2 days ago - no license... 500 bt fine from a Rangsit cop.... cheaper than my 1000 bt fine 8 years for letting my DL expire for over a year and no new one...

  13. I have the opposite problem - my thai wife will ask me something - and I say "you never told me that" - or I will ask her about something and the answer will be " well I told you about that " when I am certain I never heard it mentioned...so now she thinks I don"t listen to anything she says and I forget anything she says even if she never told me... does this make sense? and I would say I have a pretty good memory IF someone tells me something... but I do not have ESP 5 5 5

  14. metered taxi only methinks.. watch out for the non metered guys - I had a big problem a few years ago with non metered taxi at Don Muang with the thai wife coming back from Phuket - guy didn;'t have his meter on and we jumped in 100 bt we thought but he wanted 400 bt to go over to Future park...like a 10 minute drive or less ... anyway he slammed on the gas and hit the brakes like 3 times all in the airport road - obviuolsy a problem with drugs or something .. we finally got out - wife gets the cops - we wait - the cops find the guy still in the airport ... he gets a 500 bt fine - the wife wanted his head on a platter... anyway - hour and half later we get the 100 bt taxi to Rangsit...but at 2 am or whatever make sure you get a meter guy - no official good taxi line up at Don muang I think still as of now like Suanapum has...

  15. 555 nice post - maybe the spirit world and Bhudda land meet and require money to be paid so not to upset the spirits... 50 bt for good luck on the massage.... never had to pay my thai wife for a massage... but that was the first 5 years of marriage - now do not get anything 5 5 5 paid or not

  16. too bad you didn't get some string and tie up the 3 you broke... so what is the going price for a palm tree frond these days at a hotel? 1000 bt each - 500bt or 2000bt? maybe better to pay a fine or barter it down 50% of what she says... or call the cops... forget the lawyer thing tho... jeez.... if thai gf try to have her talk to hotel lady...and the red white and blue flag thing would be brit not yank right? yanks don't say "small spot of bother" 5 5 5 good luck for finding out what a palm tree frond costs this Songkran...

lots of red white and blue country flags tho...

  17. I left a bit early from work but no big Viphawadee rd lineup this year at the endf=oftheVPtollway here in Rangsit...but you have to be sooo careful driving during Songkran... if not crazy highway drivers then just drunks backing up on a slow road and hitting your car - Songkran for me now is to be careful - stay home and enjoy - don't drive the highways at night is my new motto... even when the lights are ok - you have someone trying to pass on a 2 lane country "highway"... the "invisible third lane" here...sad to hear this story - everyone wants to get home safe - but it is that one jerk going to fast or drunk or whatever that will ruin your life...4-500 dead - mostly kids on motorcikes - but also the staggeringnumber of injured every holiday as well... plus deaths not counted if not dead on the road.... die in hospital later and it doesn't count for the road kill numbers...be very safe out there this Songkran...

  18. I read that 1.2 million cars came under the buy back scam... but not all were 100,000 bt as i heard that if you went for bigger than 1.5 liter engine maybe only 60,000 - but call it 1.2 million at 100,000/3 thou usd... that is over 3 Billion usd...if they have only paid out 1 billion usd/30 bill Thai baht then they have a long way to go.... yes they thought easy election win and right back to hiding the car and rice scams and all the other "schemes" with taxpayer money - great posts above by the guys who know what is going on here in LOS...it is goping to be a LONG HOT summer around here... and it is getting hotter every day right now out here in Rangsit.... maybe one of the head rice farmer guys can get elected.... and Suthep going to ask the Big Guy to be interim PM ? is he crazy? that will start an all out down and dirty war- oh yah and did the 15 k per month payouts for Univ grads ever happen? oh and BTW I never saw one baht of the 5000 or 20,000 bt mentioned after the flood... and I had 7 ft of water in the White House Moobahn.. must have all gotten snagged by red party people for their friends... just like all the other gov money that gets back pocketed by officials on the billion + dollar scams....if I could vote here - I would vote for the first Rice Farmer who stands up and declares he is going to do something... dang nabbit

  19. Sergey has the finger points down - his girlfriend has the thumbs up down - hope they got some money back... but got the iphone...yah late night ATM and nunchucks - I would have asked the guy to swing them a couple of times first to see if maybe he would bonk himself in the haid.. then run maybe if not... 5 5 5...

renting a bike for a month requires leaving your passport at the company? I would think only a copy is enough...butSergy did good - loks like all this spanishrusskie had to do was show the nunchuks as Sergey looks like a computer nerd but what teh heck - glad he got his stuff back 5 5
