  1. When staying at hotels in Thailand, be mindful that the electrical power supply may not be ‘clean energy’ per se. I prefer to use the power from my powerbank so the power is isolated from the AC power supply and recharged the powerbank when asleep.
  2. Brought missus recently to Singapore and visited a branded sunglasses store. Asked for the price and was told it was around US$ 400. I asked them if the plastic frames could deformed if left too long under the sun in the car. “Isn’t it made of plastic?” was the reply. I would have thought for the price it could be made from some engineered plastics that could withstand high temperature under the sun as car interior can go up to 70 degree Celsius . Finally missus got a couple of premium ‘branded ‘ sunglasses made in China when we visited Ho chi Minh , paid a tenth of the price and couldn’t felt better.
  3. Maybe certain models only were made or value added in Thailand. Same as in other industries.
  4. Laos immigration accept kips or US$ . Can’t see why Thailand cannot accept thai baht and US$.
  5. Get a couple of bank staff to oversee the payment . I believe no bank is unwilling to putout for such a huge customer .
  6. A simple procedure to collect the tb300 is to just install a large collection box at the end of the queue that every visitors need to pass thru .they already had those personnel assistance standing to guide the queue so just an additional step for them. US$10 or tb300.
  7. Or a group of mototaxi guys nearby.
  8. Tinting in Thailand need to take into consideration that driving at night can be a hazard if tinted too dark. Rule of the thumb is to tint front windscreen with minimum tint , medium tint on the front two windows and rear windscreen , and the higher tint on the rear two windows.
  9. India like China are made up of many ethnicities. Some gracious and well mannered, others not so much. They lived in developed and underdeveloped provinces but they are all of the same nationality. I would put that this is the same for other countries except that mostly it takes the same nationality to identify their own country folks while outsiders labeled them based upon nationality and stereotype.
  10. Thais are basically non confrontational and take it in their stride.
  11. Foreigners renting motorbikes should be renting for ease of travel not thrill. I have been renting scooters in Thailand and neighboring countries precisely for that reason and that reason alone. If I were to imbibe some alcohol, I will be extra careful and all paranoid about road safety.
  12. In vietnam ,there are motorbike rentals that can rent electric bikes running at 50 Kms or less to those without valid licenses as it is legal there. Perhaps Thailand can adopt this too since there are so many foreigners riding scooters here without valid licenses. A win win situation.
  13. This is endemic in Asian culture . Japanese trust another Japanese in a foreign country even though they knew each other relatively recently. At least that is what my Japanese friend told me in Thailand. He said his country folk will never stab him in the back.
  14. Foreigners love to stay in places where there are international airports such as phuket, chiangmai, hua hin , chiang rai because less hassle needing to get connecting local flights when coming back to Thailand.. At least that is where I would locate to.
  15. The onus is on the owner and manager to implement safety regulations. Drivers are powerless . If you don’t want to drive, they just get some other drivers. Given the low level of education of Thais, I am not surprised if drivers or even owners are not aware of the 6 cylinder rule.
  16. This incident is a good start for road transport department to do an in depth vehicle inspection on all public transportation to ensure public safety.
  17. “It is not only in Thailand but these naked bus chassis are sent to all the bus body building companies around the world and the bodies are all locally built in those countries. These bus chassis have an electrical control panel located in a box located alongside the drivers section that is accessed from the outside of the bus.” that is quite correct. Many countries just imported the chassis with engine but without hub and body. This is cost cutting as well as custom fabrication according to various countries’ regulations. I was appalled by the interior material construction of the buses in Thailand and Malaysia which I am familiar with. Thin side walls made of inflammable material and carpeting.seats too. It is a firetrap in the making. Ever notice how the bus carriage sheared off completely from the chassis upon a rollover in an accident ? there is no safety cage concept in bus construction in countries like these. safety belt is all they can offer and even that, sometimes you find them not in working condition.
  18. What is cause of the fire after the bus broke down? LPG cylinder the culprit ? Or others such electrical fire that result from the bus veering off the road. moreover, how come even though the bus is upright, door locked maybe due to electrical fire, the teachers or adults did not break open the windows or safety roof door ? Aren’t there somebody in the adult capacity able to ensure the safety of children as in this case by checking fire escape safety in case of fire? Stupidity and ignorance can result in untimely deaths .
  19. Posters here are basically racist and myopic in their world view….
  20. Correct. Just like the mainland Chinese boorish behavior tarnish all Chinese looking people regardless their nationality .
  21. Until and unless Thailand cobbled all the relevant agencies together and focus in resolving the crisis without personal agenda,, the left hand will just undo what the right hand achieved. Implementing too many policies at once while some of them are not even consolidated yet is foolhardy and Thai civil servants are not known to be the sharpest tool in the box.
  22. Vietnam business elites are essentially from ancient China Fujian stock so dna wise they are shwred, diligent and frugal whereas Thailand business elite though of mainly ancient chinese stock were from Yunnan and Guangxi provinces which are not known for their business acumen. Thai elites thrived because of low competition from local Thais who are culturally close to those inhabitants of Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines.
  23. Maybe it is because the authorities are too self conscious of pattaya’s renowned reputation of adult entertainment playground
  24. Also Thailand is a majority Buddhist country and that is why killing live animals is a taboo . That is also why abortion is illegal and no self respecting doctor is willing to do the deed.
  25. Thailand,,, LOS land of surprises
