  1. There are a few narrow streets off Walking street itself but they are usually teeming with people. Very few vehicles except m/c go up and down these after 6 p.m. until Walking street closes for the night.

Although it does not say what time of day this happens, it is still difficult during the day to get a car / truck down these narrow streets.

There are one or two back 'alleyways' leading from street to street but to be driving there at the exact same time as this couple does seem odd. I cannot exactly see a high speed getaway from these narrow streets, hell, you can walk faster than most traffic down them.

Maybe the PDN has not got the facts correct on the actual location? And a time of day would have helped.

Yes, it does seem odd that those targets robbed do always seem to have a lot of cash on them. Carrying 14,000 Baht on walking Street? I carry a couple of thousand max when I am out for the night. Maybe a bit extra if I wanted a lady wink.png

Many threads discuss the amount of money necessary for a night out. I think we all just have to accept the fact that for some people 2k is a full nights partying, and for others, 2k just covers a couple of drinks for one self, a couple of lady drinks, a couple of 100 baht notes for the dancers and a round of tequila for oneself, a couple of girls and a buddy or 2 in a random gogo on WS - so an hour of partying! And few people want to hit the ATM every hour all night long.

As we are not really allowed to discuss certain matters, I cannot say what you get for a 20 Baht note down certain establishments off walking street. But I will say that if you are spending 500 Bht per drink .... what are you drinking??? ;)

  2. Some of us have spare time on our right hand between getting out of bed on a morning and going to the pub in the evening giggle.gif

And the tv is out of bounds as that is hogged by the g/f. blink.png

I'm off for being too prolific and a beer or two awaiteth me now her ladyship has finished with the shower, make-up and the rest.

  3. It seems to be the same couple of posters doing all the whinging and moaning here! I'm sick and tired of reading it.

    Do I qualify?

You cannot call that a moan <deleted>!

Don't you just hate those who whimper under their breath about something. Jeez you will never make a Victor Meldrew in a million years!! Now get out (not of Thailand) until you are grouchy and miserable enough to post in this OP.

There is more to Pattaya than you 'Been there once' people can ever understand.

Besides being riddled with hookers and sex tourists what else does it offer that other parts of Thailand don't? Pattaya only appeals to a certain type of person and I don't have to explain the reasons why.More to Pattaya, pfffft get real.

English style food, multicuturalism, English and European (amongst others) restaurants. English music. friendly people from all nations - and as I regularly talk to Americans, Australians, English, Austrian and other nationalities and have a few friendly beers with them - I can say that there are friendly people here.

Riddled with hookers and sex tourists? You came here once didn't you?

There are many Thai people here who are not hookers. Let's see, hospital workers, nurses, doctors. How about those who work in 7/11, BigC, HomeMart, Foodland. What about all those m/c taxi drivers are they all hookers too? How about the many Thai people who work in shops, mom n pop stalls, shoe shops, market stalls etc?

It seems to me that you are the one with the hang-ups, boy. Yes, I say boy because if you truly were a man of the world you would know there is more to places like Pattaya than hookers and sex tourists.

And as for you bringing your wife and family here, if it is such a cesspit, why on earth would you do that?

I am going out tonight, in Pattaya. I will meet with people who are decent and caring - in the main. We will have a few beers, listen to music and have a chat and a good laugh, IF we can fight our way down town through the streets riddled with old gits, sex tourists and hookers as you seem to think the streets are.

  5. I wonder why some people bother to come to the Pattaya forum, since they seem to have such high morals, although I didnt read in the op, that the guy was "hanging around alleyways". BTW, what was your wife doing, hanging around outside a hotel?

Well he was robbed in an alleyway so I would assume he was either walking through there or hanging around either way he should have been more careful. This is a Thai forum,I live in Thailand and have done for the last 4 years so I think I have a right to say my part. And another thing don't try and be a smart arse my wife was not hanging around,i forgot my phone and went back up to the room to get it i had left her side for no more than 2 minutes. It just goes to show you the mentality of most of the men who visit Pattaya and BK,they seem to think every Thai woman is a hooker or can be bought. It gives a me a bloody headache, have some respect and think before you act.

He was walking back to his hotel with his girlfriend. Not hanging around in alleyways.

You claim you are an English teacher but you cannot read the OP?

And how does one take care against a random and unprovoked attack or robbery? What was this 'old man' as you call him supposed to do against younger, fitter assailants / robbers?

Maybe he was gentleman enough not to want his g/f or himself to be physically attacked and possibly hospitalised. Ah, but, according to you, he is an old git and no gentleman, yet you do not know this man, do you?

Yet you presume to tell the world how bad a man he is because he and his girlfriend were walking home to their hotel from a visit to Walking Street.

What a sad person that makes you IMHO.

  6. Add to all the above, the aches and pains of getting old. Arthritis, back pain and the rest.

Having to take 'something' to get a hard on.

Unable to drink as many beers as before and still hump all night long.

Watching the receded hairline recede even more.

The list goes on and on blink.png

  7. No sympathy for the owl git, walking down ally's in the middle of the night with 14000 baht on you is asking for it.

I assume that you are a fully paid up member of the fraternity of the <deleted> young. I suggest that the majority here would opine that walking down dark alleys late at night is not a good idea, but to say that this gentleman, who IMO is just entering old age, asked for it, is many a step too far. I suppose, given the way that young ladies dress these days, you would say that they are asking to be raped.

P.S. Being advanced in years is not a crime and should not attract derogatoray remarks. Many societies rightly revere their senior citizens who have a far greater fund of knowledge, experience and understanding than you apparently do. Three definitions of a 'git' are offered by the Urban Dictionary. Many, particularly those far senior than you, might well tend to think that they apply to yourself.

    1. A completely ignorant, childish person with no manners.

    2. A person who feels justified in their callow behaviour.

    3. A pubescent kid who thinks it's totally cool to act like a moron on the internet, only because no one can actually reach through the screen and punch their lights out.

An owl is a mainly nocturnal bird of prey. I think the word that you were seeking is 'old' but then with your apparent lack of education maybe it doesn't fall within the boundaries of your lexicon.

Well to me an old man walking around dark ally ways in Pattaya with a woman who is young enough to be his daughter tells me all I need to know about him and I would hardly describe that behavior as gentlemanly, hence why a I called him a git.The disrespectful comment towards me on your behalf was a hundred times worse than anything I said about him.He should have known better and even though I am young enough to be his son I don't see him having much common sense.I stand by what I said, don't get but hurt about it.

Old man with a woman young enough to be his daughter?

She is 33 !! Not exactly a babe in arms.

And as there are no alleyways off walking street, you need to read between the lines of the story.

So, he is walking this woman home off Walking Street and they apparently get robbed and you call him an old git.

I have to agree with Bagwan, he is not old, not yet even of pensionable age. How do you know he is not a gentleman? How do you know he does not open the door for her, or treat her like a lady? Many older men do, we have something called manners.

If he had picked up some young 20 year old from a bar or a-go-go, I might well understand derogatory comments.

Yet, as you state, you are young enough to be his son. Are you jealous he has such a beautiful woman on his arm?

I am sincerely glad my son does not have your attitude to life.

  9. I've had break ups that have gone both ways - good and bad.

One, who I thought would be the worst after being with her for 2 years actually came to my aid after a car accident when I was hospitalised. She could not do enough for me. (This was maybe a year after we'd broken up - but had kept in touch). She turned out to be one of my best friends.

Another one, I know I can never go back to her hoime town again. Vicious, vindictive and with plenty of friends and connections.

TBH, there can be a lot of drama here over a break up, especially after you have been sleeping together. More so if she has told friends and family that she will be marrying you in the future. That can lead to a massive loss of face especially if they are boasting about it and making more of it than you know about - in that case you could expect some repercussions.

Odd that when they break up / divorce a Thai man it seems acceptable in the main, yet to lose a Foreigner it seems to be a whole different kettle of fish. Be prepared to accept you might not be able to go back to that city / town / place again.

Yet only you know her and can guage her true reaction - drama queen or a real threat.

  10. Well maintained roads? How many do you travel along? I have seen many a tree branch sticking out of huge potholes to warn others of the danger. Badly rutted roads where it is dangerouse enough to drive a car, let alone a m/c.

Pattaya Sukhumvit for example has one really dangerous stretch where the unwary on a m/c could and have had accidents.

Travelling around another northern city I have driven on roads so badly rutted even the car had difficulty staying on course.

    Support the family? Why? cheesy.gif

In the U.K. I did not support her family. I supported my wife and children.

1 lady..... she had 10 Rai of sugar and 2 Rai of rice. Her family had rice, mango and sugar too + they worked in shops, schools and other places.

1 lady.... she and her family have 70 Rai of rice. Why would I support them?

1 lady she also has 10 Rai of rice. She works too.

Seems to me these people can support themselves and 2 of those 3 are from Issan.

And as said in an earlier post..... home ownership? We all know the answers to that clap2.gif

Can I ask how much for the tank and where from?

Tank was 5000 Baht incl. a few connectors and float.

    Pump 150W = 5200 Baht, pump 100W = 4500 Baht

I bought everything in a shop at Soi Neurn Plub Wan, approximately 100 m distance to Sukhumvit.

    My bypass-system:

    attachicon.gif19-06-2013 01-52-28.png

Using pump and tank: Valve 1+2 open - valve 3 close

Bypassing pump and tank: Valve 1+2 close - valve 3 open

    No rocket-science..smile.png

Good information on where you purchased the tank itself for those who might be wanting to buy one in the futuire. A good guide and can save some people driving about looking for good prices. :)

  12. I put a stopcock in about 1 metre after the tank outlet and one about 2 metres before the inlet.

The mains water goes to the house first and to the tank second.

I set mine up so that if I want to fill the tank when there is mains water, I can do so. When - like now - there is no mains water, I use the tank.

When there is mains water, I obviously do not use the tank as there is a lot of mains pressure.

I can also turn off the mains feed, turn on the pump and have the water recycle itself out of and into the tank again to aerate the water and stop it becoming stagnant.

That may sound a bit crazy but as I prefer to use the mains direct - when we have mains water - and not use the pump, it seemed a good idea at the time and saves on electric ;)

Two houses nearby have their mains water feed going in at the bottom of the tank!! The drain plug feeds the water to the house. I have no idea why they did that instead of feeding it through the top inlet.

  13. Tell the computer to save the programs to one of the other drives.

No need to partition or merge the drive(s) you already have seperate drives.

Where you download something, the computer generally asks you where you want to download it to. Simply change the drive letter from C to D or E and the progs be they movies or whatever to that drive.

If these are movies and music files we are talking about and you want to move them to a different drive, do so easily.

    Start

    My computer

Double left click the mouse to open the C drive.

Click the folder you want to move (or copy) to your d drive (the folder will turn blue)

At the top of the screen left click EDIT

    Click copy to folder

    A new screen appears.

Click the drive you want to copy the folder to.

It will ask if you wish to make a new folder (your choice here - I have one for movies, one for tv, one for torrents etc.)

Then click on the copy button.

** I'd do it with a small file that is not very important to you to start with in case you make any mistakes.

Some people will say that is not a good idea, but I download files constantly (24 hours a day) to my H drive and simply copy them to the drive I want to send them to. IF the copy fails for whatever reason (power cut or some computer malfunction) you do not lose the data in the files.

In the last 4 days I have downloaded over 80 torrents and have moved them to the drive I want to have them on. All my 'wildlife' files that the g/f wants to watch are stored on my L drive and then transferred to a USB thumb drive for her to plug into the DVD player to watch them.

Yes you can MOVE the files in the same way as described above but you stand a greater risk of losing data in some circumstances.

Once you have copied a file or folder over simply delete that file / folder from the C drive. Then empty the recycle bin only once you are sure you have the file / folder saved.

Easy once you have done it a few times and you need no special program to do it with.

Now you have free space on the drive.

Obviously do not move program files, but movies, music etc should pose no problem at all..

  14. DONE!

Bought a 1000l tank (UV resistant) and a pump (Hitachi 150).

A few connectors and adapters. All together ~10.000 Baht.

Installed a "bypass-system" too, if the pump or something fails.

It's only a few meters of PVC pipe, some 90° angles/t-pieces and three cocks for the bypass.

And not forget, a few hours of labour and a few beer..tongue.png

    Job satisfaction :)

Can I ask how much for the tank and where from?

  15. Friday was a bad day. Nothing went right. I was getting grumpy.

OK, go out for a beer. That seems like a good idea. Chill out to music, friends and relax biggrin.png

    Oops!! BAD idea.

The majority of the music was enough to send you to sleep. Some drunken Thai bird decided she would hog the microphone for a while and she sang screeched like sh*t too. The music then got slower.

    Boring. Some of us booed.

Went home. 2 m/c. One for me and one for her.

Her m/c took off and mine must have been a 30cc or something. Then the driver decided to go his way and I had to redirect him. Got to the house eventually.

Somehow the back wheel of the sliding gate had come off. I don't know if the g/f did it when she opened up, or someone else - maybe trying to get in. A 9 foot long, 6 foot high steel gate, several beers and at 2 a.m. trying to lift the gate back onto the runner.

    Now I was real grumpy!

There was more but that is not for the TV readers ;)

YES, we are allowed to be grumpy at times. We are allowed to swear and rant too. Okay?

  16. Up Arunothai 9 turn left, turn right.

They have D.I.Y. jet washes and cheap too. You could have a blast wink.png

I have been looking for years for a DIY wash set up in Pattaya. That way the dweebs won't blow the decals off.

Where in Pattaya is Arunothai 9 turn left, turn right. ?????

    Thanks

Soi Arunothi is opposite BigC, Pattaya Klang (at the traffic lights).

Head down Arunothai abt 1.5 km and on the left is the Shagwell Hotel. Turn left here - between the Shagwell and the Boomerang bar (this is Arunothai Soi 7).

Go up to the top abt 500 mtrs. You have to turn right.

1st left and on that soi are two washes on your right hand side.

Map added. Circled BigC. Cross = washes.

    post-146137-0-50099600-1371555455_thumb.

  17. Do you really think people living near Walking Street will drive 3km to get 2 litters of petrol?

No. They buy petrol from small local stands... or from the only near station : Shell sad.gif

Yes I think people would travel 3km to get petrol if the only other option was knowingly getting ripped off. I know I would, then again I think I have a little common sense.

The nearest station to me is at least 3 K.M. away so I'd answer yes to that too, patrick :)

Also, do these people never go to the shops in the car? Can they not fill up on the way there or back? Or do their cars sit in the street while the petrol evaporates? blink.png

  18. 100 watt pump: do you have a two storey house as the topic starter asks about?

Single storey. But so much pressure it is incredible. Power shower? I have to turn the shower down to about 1/4 of a turn or I get blasted there too.

The shop said 100 watt is good for 2 storeys too.

Like Craig3365 mentioned above ^^^ about the showert head popping off. There is a fair amount of power in a 100 watt pump.

  19. 800 litre tank abt 450 Baht at TOA stores, but they are not as sturdy or ecologically friendly as other makes. High usage? I'd get 2 tanks. My 800 litre tank last about 5 days for 2 of us.

100 watt pump a little under 5000 Baht.

I did the plumbing myself. It was too easy, a bit of glue, a few lengths of pipe, joints and stopcocks.

Great water pressure - using the bum gun almost gives you a re-bore!! cheesy.gif

Homeworks nr BigC Sukhumvit road have eco tanks at 850 to 1,000 baht for 1,000 litres. Other shops about the same price.

Most places have the 100 watt pump for a fraction under 5000 Baht.
