  1. No one smartphone is really easier than another...it's the operating system you have to deal with. Apple's is probably the easiest and most unified. Android is now the most popular but because it is so customizable, can become complex...but can also be really simple.

Asus has a good line of "Zenphones" starting at B3000. They are Android but Asus has an option in the phone set-up that gives you a very simplified home screen with only your basic selections. Very easy for a novice to use.

Windows phones are also very straightforward. The homescreen makes selection of what you want to do very obvious...it's almost all right there. The downside of Windows is a much smaller selection of available apps but all the basics are covered like Line and Facebook. Since they dropped the Nokia brand, the Microsoft branded models are kind of lacking in extra features like high quality displays and long life batteries and the built in cameras are mediocre. For a simple, easy to use phone for a low price, it is probably a very good choice. Prices start at less than B3000 but most of the ones in the lower price range only have a rear camera and are not 4G.

You can see them in most mall phone stores like JMart and TG Phone.

  2. Last few days, real problem with TV. Pages wouldn't load fully, couldn't open topics. Yesterday and today, couldn't open links in "GoogleNews" like to stories in "Mashable" or "Huffington Post" yet could access those websites directly, no problem.

Happening on both Chrome and IE.

    TrueADSL, Bangkok

  3. Look for them on online sites like Gearbest, pre-order starting June or July, usually a 15%-20% premium over announced China price. The problem will be getting them with world rom and not just dealer flashed G apps.

I have the Xiaomi Redmi Note-2 (2gb/16gb) really exceeded my expectations...amazing phone for $125 inc. shipping (B260 duty) (Dealsmachine)

  4. One of the unhappiest 14 year-olds I ever saw was in a Walking Street Go-Go some years ago. His parents made him sit solo at the edge of the dance floor while they yukked it up sitting a few rows back. He was a good looking kid and the girls were going nuts, teasing him and dancing in his face. He looked like he'd rather be anyplace else on the planet than where he was...clearly not ready and very abashed and uncomfortable looking...his mom & dad thought it was just hilarious, not the least tuned in their own kid.

Saw a similar situation at SuperBaby GoGo, again a 14 or so boy sitting at the bar/dancefloor while pop nagged at him to pick a girl...he was pretty drunk and the kid clearly wanted no part of it....sad scene really. The father was so insistent that I remember wondering if he suspected his kid was gay and was trying to "cure" him.

  5. Remember when the Germans were running this at the start. No problems. It ran like a well oiled machine. Then Ha,Ha, give it to the incompetent so they then hire their kenfoke to work there..Yes sir I can hear it now "I wonder whats this switch is for".WOW look at that!

Yup, them Germans really know how to run trains so much better than Thais.......

  6. The cheaper the battery, the more prone to this puffing up they seem to be. I had it happen to a clone "Samsung" phone and several cheap tablets as well. Tends to happen when they are not in use. In my experience the containment envelopes have stayed intact...I would not want to be close by if one let go,

How to safely dispose of them in a responsible way is an interesting question I don't have an answer for.

  7. "Anek Kusala Sala", aka, " Viharna Sien" is an amazing museum built by the Chinese-Thai Business Association to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the King's coronation. It is 4 stories tall and contains an amazing collection of ancient Chinese armaments, armour, and other military artifacts. It is the only institution outside of China given genuine figures from the famous Terra-Cotta warriors recently discovered in China. They also have a 3000 year old chariot on display.

If your son is at all into martial arts, he'll love the display of life size bronze sculptures...each in dynamic fighting positions on the 2nd floor front terrace..really impressive. (Bring cotton socks or slippers...shoes are not allowed on the terrace and the surface gets HOT.)

There are also extensive collections of ancient Buddhist statuary, pottery, musical instruments and an awesome collection of model boats on one of the upper levels.

This is really an amazing place and surprisingly few know about it. Most of the visitors are Chinese Thais and tourists. Admission the last time I went was B50.

It is kind of hard to find. Of Sukhumvit going towards Sattahip, directions and other info here: http://www.bangkok.com/pattaya/attractions/viharn-sien.htm#promo

  8. Why are you guys so intent on wanting to buy an android box from a seller (in Thailand or UK) who when your apps fail through lack of backup by the seller, complain about it.

Make up your own build, its quite easy if you follow the guides on Youtube, then update as and when you have to. I say this because I'm 69 yo and if I can do it so can you.

These apps only work for so long without updates and if the box seller hasn't built in an update app, it won't work pretty soon. You will have no redress as the seller will refer you to sites such as Youtube for info more than likely. Remember these guys are only in it to make a quick buck and then disappear, only to reappear on another street.

    Be aware !

    So let me see,.

If you don't buy the box, with or without a fully loaded Kodi, from a seller anywhere in the world then how you gonna install your own build?

Your own build includes the very same addons that are included in the sellers build, so they will work just as long as his.

There are no " update apps", the addon is always updated automatically, because the version check addon is included in Kodi.

Next time you want to warn other, and display your "wisdom", make sure you know what you're talking about.thumbsup.gif

Simple answer is that these "sellers" purchase these substandard boxes in bulk from China for pennies then retail them with Kodi (which is free and another subject all together) Then these people drop support and go out of business and people are left with a box and not knowing how to use it.

What happens when one of these favorite addons the seller has chosen goes down the tubes? The buyer is again left with a "box" that does nothing.

Understanding and knowing how to use Kodi is the biggest challenge for most people.

Addon's are not always updated automatically, that's a user option.

Kodi has started to take action against these sellers as they are using the software and name without permission.

I would warn people to NEVER purchase a product from these resellers who are basically thieves.

I agree with your explanation, but there should be added something.

Ordering a basic Android box doesn't make the buyer more knowledgeable on a whim, so for most people ordering a fully loaded box is a better option. Once they have have figured out how it works, they can delete the build and install their own, but at least they are started.

Kodi isn't taking action against the sellers specifically, they are taking action against all the illegal addon developers, which is actually 95% of what is installed on most boxes.

Before you start again, yes building an addon to stream content which is the intellectual property of others, for free is illegal.

So yes, Salts - Genesis - Exodus -1Channel - Sportsdevil, just to name a few are ALL illegal and you are not even allowed to discuss them on the official Kodi forum.

Kodi was created for the purpose of playing your own media stored on your personal PC and not intended for streaming at all, and that is what the Kodi devs are now taking l;egal action against.

Makes one wonder if Kodi is doing this as window dressing to aid in defending lawsuits by copyright owners or are they laying groundwork for future "monetization" of the platform.

  9. I've been riding the BTS pretty much daily for more than 10 years and excepting the social disruptions in 2006 & 2010, can count on one hand the number of major disruptions I've had to cope with.

There isn't a major metro transit system on the planet that doesn't have "overcrowding" issues during peak hours. Urban transit systems are like highways in that the more capacity you add, the more users you attract. There seems no way around that fact.

The BTS does deserve criticism for it's poor platform and crowd handling policies and lack of handicap access. I've always feared that there will someday be a disaster on the always overcrowded Siam escalator going down from the trains.

I think it's actually pretty remarkable that I can arrive on the BTS platform just as a train pulls out and know that 99% of the time, the next train will be along in six minutes.

  10. Regarding your phone, as others have pointed out, it can be difficult to match a provider like AT&T with the bands your phone is set with. Also sometimes difficult to get a micro or nano sim if that's what your phone takes.

I find it much cheaper to buy a $10 candy bar Trak Phone at Wallmart or even Wallgreens, add a $20 call plan and it's good for a month. You already have a smartphone for wifi so you just need a calls and sms only phone.

  11. If your AC unit is leaking, there is a strong possibility the drain tube is blocked and is backing up into the unit. Sometimes insects get in there, sometimes algae forms a plug. AC units here produce a lot of water..my 20,000 BTU produces a bucket full every day.

Also, take the air filters off the inside unit and wash them, they are probably clogged with several years of dust. Same for the outside unit; clean the grill with a stiff brush. It's OK to use water.

  12. I was in San Francisco in 2013, then again last October. The increase in the number of street people in just those two years was starlling. I took a public bus into the city from where I was staying south of the airport and all the way in, every public bench, every park and street corner was populated with obviously homeless people. When I walked along Market St., then the Embarcadero, the panhandling was constant and occasionally more "in my face" than I've experienced in the past.

Los Angeles is looking the same, just more spread out. It seems an impossible situation. Housing costs have gone through the roof, they are a difficult population to deal with and the more services a city provides, the more of them come.

  13. If you currently live in a larger Condo or apartment bldg, the management usually have a list of haulers. Local moto-dops also usually know somebody with a truck. It all seems to be done really informally. I've seen Thais bring all their stuff down to the lobby, go speak to a motodop and 15 minutes later, a pick-up pulls up.

  14. The fact is that the call does not end when you press the power button on android, nor does seem in any other way. I have searched the Internet to try and find a solution to the problem. But to no avail. So that's why I have posted on this forum

If you have an Android phone: go into "Settings", then "Call Settings" or possibly "Phone Settings"...Look for the option "Power Button Ends Call" or something similar.

  15. the bit i believe about this story is the age 85/70 smile.png

So what's wrong with them being old and having difficulty navigating new devices?

I suggest the OP consult with a friend who is familiar with mobile phones. Most smartphones can be set to close a call using the power button. Some can be set to do it with a shake. Depends on the model of phone.

I suspect the problem of large bills may have more to do with a poor calling plan and maybe some useless add-on services than with calls not being closed when they are finished. As another poster pointed out, the call is closed if either party closes it.

I suggest you visit your provider and bring along a friend who understands call plans.

  16. Consider Prachuap Kiri Khan, an hour south of Hua Hin, or Chumphon, an hour south of Prachuap. I just spent 12 days in that area and was really impressed.

Definitely not tourist central. Beautiful, uncrowded beaches essentially free of vendors; ...well, maybe a few. Lots of small, scenic fishing villages dotting the coast and dramatic limestone karsts rising from the sea.

Lots of inexpensive and moderately priced accommodation options, from B500 hotel rooms to full blown resorts. They also are emphasizing some coastal "Home Stay" villages. Some western food options; more in PKK than Chumphon but lots of excellent Thai restaurants to choose from. I never experienced dual pricing. There are some beer bars but no "Bar scene".

If you really do want what you say you want...this is it.

There is air service to both but quite expensive.
