  1. There is a carton factory in Phra Khanong, a five minute walk from the BTS where they manufacture very strong and heavy duty cartons. They have many sizes on display and are reasonably priced. I have recommended them before on this forum and always got positive feedback.

Directions from Phra Khanong BTS. Use Exit #3 out of the station, at the street, walk in the direction of traffic 100 meters to soi 69. Turn LEFT on 69, follow 100 yards and take the first right. The carton factory will be about 80 yards on the right side...very obvious. Closed Sundays.

  2. If you are convenient to Phra Khanong, there is a coffee specialty store called ABSTRACT 13 on Sukhumvit 71, corner of Soi (Pridi) 16. They cater to the upscale restaurant and hotel industry selling very hi-end coffee and espresso machines. They also sell a variety of Arabica coffee blends that I find to be exceptionally good for very reasonable prices; minimum purchase 1/2 Kilo.

If you want your beans ground, they will grind the beans to your preference. Closed Sundays.

  3. What DTAC announces and what they actually produce can be galaxies apart...remember Tri-Net??

In order for this to be commercially successful, a whole lot more manufacturers and going to have to get on the bandwagon making compatible phones...low cost models.

especially as there is no way DTAC could pay for that kind of infrastructure roll-out catering only to the flagship phone crowd.

Besides, Thais are a people who can carry on a phone conversation in the middle of a high octane disco or iron foundry....voice quality seems to not be a major concern among them.

  4. I was in HOME-PRO (Ploen Chit) yesterday and was surprised at the range of electrical devices they had. I didn't see the specific conduit you pictured but i wasn't looking for it either. Worth checking.

  5. I've used AliExpress for about 20 orders: two tablets, several phones, some phone cases, batteries, ect. China Post has never been more than a month and a number of times I've been surprised to receive my goods in less than 15 days. As others have said, a lot depends on how long the seller takes to process and ship the order.

I've used FedEx and DHL a few times when I was in a hurry and goods always arrived in the specified time.

I've always been assessed duty on phones & tablets. For DHL and FedEx shipments, I leave money with my building receptionist, usually about B300 for a $200 phone and that usually comes pretty close. For China Post, I usually get a notice and have to pick-up & pay at the local P.O.

FWIW, I've always found it helps expedite things to use the AliExpress chat function to communicate with the seller before submitting the purchase and try to get them to commit to shipping within 24 hours. They want positive feedback so they will usually agree and follow through.

  6. LG does seem to have some of the best value deals. I'm kind of a compulsive price shopper when buying a major appliance. I've found to my surprise that I consistently find the lowest prices at POWER MALL in Siam Paragon and the similar retailer in the Emporium; sorry, I forget if Power Buy or Power Mall.

  7. Rumors abound about the alley space along with the fate of the Beergarden itself. The management has been unsuccessful in expanding the business...the Disco was stillborn and the renovated upstairs restaurant area gathers dust.

I have heard a lot of speculation about an Arab style market bazaar being developed in the alley space, catering to the always increasing crowds of Middle Easterners in the area.

If that should happen, the BG will be quickly gone..

  8. I can't tell you krisb...Johnny has threatened me with a gun and said I already got two strikes...

    So it's Phra Kanong then?

Phra Khanong beer garden is good. 100 tables (?) surrounded by 40 (?) eatery choices, Thai style, hamburgers, pizza, suits every taste.

2 bars, both which do beer towers and cocktails and spirits etc etc. . Bacardi breezers for people like me.

very civilized environment a few hundred metres from the BTS.

If you get a chance KB check it out

The new Phra Khanong Beer Garden is not easy to find if you don't know where to look. Take the driveway for the tall, cylindrically shaped condominium and walk behind, tucked off to the right.

There is a beergarden/BBQ similar to the old Phra Khanong one on Sukhumvit in On Nut, From Lotus, cross Soi 50, following Suk. inbound, about 100 meters down on the left. They now keep the meats, fish and poultry in small individual boxes in a refrigerator rather than in big open trays...much more sanitary and safe. i also like that the table grills are electric, not charcoal so you don't get smoke and ash in your face. Not as hot as well. Beer available in towers.

GERMAN TAWAN DAENG (Rama-3) is to me still the best Beer Garden in Bangkok. Excellent beer brewed on premises, sometimes very good entertainment and the best pork knuckle ever: one years worth of fat and cholesterol in one easy dose.

  9. I have a full size sofa (B14,000), Kitchen work counter (B3000), a TV platform (B2000) and several shelving and drawer units all purchased at Ikea, Bangkok over the last 4 years. All items have held up well and I feel they are good value. They don't get particularly hard use as I'm single and there are no kids bouncing around.

I would certainly put their quality above INDEX, another low cost furnishings chain.

I also find much of their mid-priced cookware and utensils to be of a higher quality than local department stores carry in the same price range.

If you decide to go, I suggest never going on a weekend...Huge crowds.

  10. Not sure if this is still the case but several years ago, TRUE sold WI-FI access cards at TRUE coffee shops, located in many local malls. As I recall, they were about B150/30days.

If you have a TRUE ONLINE home internet package, they will give you free Wi-Fi if you request it.

  11. Yeah agreed bigger than the 9.1 but lighter... Also the 9.1 you cannot replace the battery like on the 9.2 ... Out of interest how much are the battery's for these? Might get a second battery, I've been using this on the WiFi doing all sorts for hours and only used 40% which isn't too bad.. Cheers

Rather than buying a 2nd phone battery, consider one of the newly popular power packs...much more versatile. Models with 3000 to 6000 mAh can be purchased at most IT areas in shopping malls for less than B300, probably less than half what the phone battery would cost.

My 3000 mAh model is about the size of a candy bar and can be used on many different devices via micro USB.

  12. Some additions...for the culinary adventurous who like to try a variety of cuisines.

Filipino: Don't remember the name but directly below the Phra Khanong BTS station, odd (outbound) soi side next to MIX HOTEL.

Okinawan: Also Phra Khanong, Sukhumvit Soi 69, 100 meters on right. A unique variety of Japanese food; very favorably reviewed in several publications.

Burmese; Phra Khanong again. On Sukhumvit 71 between Soi's 3 & 5, A vegetarian friend likes this place very much.

French/Turkish kebab shop,( including a duck kabab version that is delicious). Forget name but again, Phra Khanong, on the outbound side of Sukhumvit, 5 or 6 doors before Suk. 71 intersection.

Mexican: Ari; inside the large shopping plaza is a small Mexican kiosk that served very tasty tacos and tostada salads last time I was there a year ago.

Lunch Buffet: The Majestic Grande (Suk. Soi 2) has a B399 lunch buffet that has a very good selection including roasts. I've been twice. Once the roast was beef, once lamb. It's on an upper floor, you may have to ask at the front desk for directions.

BTW, should you go; the first after dinner coffee is free...refills are not free. Found out the hard way.

  13. I've seen package/mail services at many different shopping malls but I do not know if they have receiving or Postal Box services. You do not say where you live but the Tesco in On Nut has one just inside the door from the BTS walkway.

Packages can be sent "Post Restante" to most Thai Post offices where you can pick them up at the parcel window during business hours.

  14. 4 years 60 flights! Oblivious to milage points? Stupid or troll.

    Ignorant reply.

Nowhere did I say I was oblivious to mileage, very aware of them actually.

I was just looking for a better way to organize them.

Almost eight years on this forum...why would I troll?

  15. RC...I actually know my default DNS are OK because I had just checked them following your instructions per your request on another topic regarding hijacked Default DNS. Not running any extensions I know of.

    Crossy:

When I copied and pasted the browser address when I had that window and tried to post it, board software changed it, eliminating some numbers and letters so I'm not surprised you got what you are supposed to get when you clicked on it.

I will delete the thumbnail. I use 2 laptops and it only happens on one of them.
