Ubonjoe,
The reason I am doing it this way is: I'm in the situation where my "permission to stay" from single entry Non Imm B visa
expires on 18th September, while my 1-year work permit expires 11th October.
If I go to a Thai consulate next week, they will not issue me a new single entry Non Imm B visa,
because there will be only some 3 weeks left on my work permit.
I had the same situation last year, when I applied for such visa in September, while my work permit was valid
until mid-October. Because there were less than 90 days left on the work permit validity, they did
not want to grant me a single entry Non Imm B visa, which would have given 90 days upon entry.
So, I cannot get a new single entry Non Imm B visa now by showing my current work permit (as that expires 3 weeks later),
there is not enough time left on it.
Now, I know I can apply for "extension of stay" on my current visa, and I will try that, but I actually doubt I will
even get the "under consideration" stamp because: my company has not paid full salaries over the last
3 months, but only 50% over June, 50% over July and 100% over August.
The company documents that will have to be submitted along with the application for "extension of stay" will show this,
and, since I assume the IO will thoroughly check the documents, the IO will spot this and not accept the application.
My employer still wants to try it (and he is paying the fee and costs).
So, this then leave this the option, as advised by a supervisor at Dept. of Employment, to cancel the current work permit,
then apply for a new work permit and on that get a application approval letter, with which I can go to
a Thai consulate to apply for new single entry Non Imm B visa, again.
This is why ask if I can cancel the current work permit, then apply for new work permit, all on the same day (!!)
and if I can get the application approval letter also on the same day, or at least not later than
next Friday, so I have that letter and can go to Thai consulate, in Savannakhet, next week Monday.
Can I do as above?
-
To my question above ^^^ I would also add:
1) Can one cancel a work permit and then apply for a new work permit (for same company) on the same day?
2) When one has submitted the application for a new work permit, can one get the application approval letter right
then and there, or does one have to wait for it, and how long?
Thanks
-
Since I might soon be in the situation where I have to cancel my work permit, to then apply for a completely new work permit,
for working at the same company , I would ask: do I need a employment termination letter from the company to cancel the work permit?
Or is such letter only needed for cancelling an extension of stay?
I am currently on a single entry Non Imm B visa, not an extension of stay (although I will try to apply for an extension of stay soon).
To clarify: If I don't get the extension of stay, or even "under consideration" stamp, I will have to cancel my current work permit, to then
apply for a new work permit, for the same company, so that I can the application approval letter from Dept. of Employment, which
I can then use to go obtain a new single entry Non Imm B visa. Hence my question.
Thanks!

Thanks for the helpful replies as usual Ubonjoe!!
I assume under #4, you mean that if there is a problem, then immigration will contact me or my employer to give an opportunity to resolve whatever issue, right?
Thanks!

With reference to my situation in my OP above, I wonder if someone can clarify the following:
1) When submitting application for "extension of stay", do you pay the fee before or after you get the "under consideration" stamp in your passport?
2) When submitting the application, does the IO already thoroughly scrutinize the documents before giving the stamp, or does the IO
only accept the set of documents without thoroughly checking?
3) If immigration considers the documents are not in order, even before getting the "under consideration stamp", does that effect the applicant's
current "permission to stay" (on Non Imm B visa)?
4) If after the consideration, the "extension of stay" is not granted, how much time does one have left before needing to exit the country?
5) If I receive my renewed work permit during the immigration's consideration period, and immigration subsequently does not grant
"extension of stay", can I then just go to a Thai consulate/embassy abroad, with the renewed work permit and apply for new
single entry Non Imm B visa?
Thanks for any clarification!!
-
Thanks again Ubonjoe!
So if the work permit is still valid for say 28 or 29 days, the IO officer will still accept the application for the
extension of stay then.
Will then check what the current document requirements are for such application.
Thanks for your help!!

Thanks Ubonjoe !!
I would then ask: will it be a problem, when I apply for such extension of stay, based up on work, when the remaining validity on the work permit is just short of 1 month?

I went to renew my work permit today, thinking I could get that “Letter of Approval” so that I can use that letter when applying for a new single entry non Imm B visa next week, since there is only about 3 weeks validity left on my current work permit after the date of expiry of my current permission to stay on Non Imm B visa.
However, I was told that such letter is only issued when one applies for a new work permit, not for renewal/extension of work permit. And since I only have 11 days left on my permission to stay, they could/would not process my work permit renewal application.
One of the supervisor explained that they would process it if I would have a stamp from immigration (Chaeng Wattana) saying that my application for “extension of stay” is under consideration (30 day stamp). So basically he explained that I should apply for an extension of stay on my current visa.
So my question is: would immigration accept an application for extension of stay from me, considering that there is only 11 days or less left before my current permission to stay on Non Imm B visa expires??
I would add that I know that one is suppose to get a first Non Imm B visa and then apply for an extension of stay, based on work. But since my employer cannot provide some of the required documents to support application for extension of stay (due to temporary financial difficulty), I have been getting consecutive single entry Non Imm B visas throughout the past 12 months during the validity of my current work permit. At this point I believe the company would still not be able to produce those required documents, this is why I now wanted to go for a new Non Imm B visa.
The supervisor also explained that another option would be to cancel the current work permit, then apply for a new work permit, to get that “Letter of Approval” and then go obtain a new Non Imm B visa.
In any case, to consider my options, I would like to know if immigration would accept an application for extension of stay from me, considering that there is only 11 days or less left before my current permission to stay on Non Imm B visa expires??
Thanks for any helpful answers!!

@digitalchromakey
Thanks for your reply.
I will tell my employer then to get the documents in order and do an early application.

My situation is that my single entry Non Imm B (90 days) expires mid September and
I will have to go apply for a new single entry Non Imm B visa, which I will probably
do at Savannakhet, Laos. The thing is that my WP will expire early October, or about 3 weeks
after my visa expires. This means the Thai consulate will not give me a new single entry
Non Imm B visa (since that one is for 90 days, while there are only 3 weeks left on the WP).
Now my question is: can I apply for WP renewal before the WP expires, say 4 or 5 weeks before
the WP expiry date, so that I can that ‘Letter of Approval’ and submit it with the visa application
(which would be 3 weeks before the WP actually expires)??
If yes, will I still have the WP book in my possession when I apply for the visa, or will I only have
that letter, and will that letter be enough?
If it is not possible, how would I best go about it to get a new Non Imm B visa (without first having to get a tourist visa and
have that changed to a non imm B in Bangkok, CW)?
Also, if it is not possible and I will first have to get a tourist visa, will that then be an SETV and would
I have to show funds of THB 20,000 when applying (in Savannakhet)?
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies!!

@ubonjoe: actually it goes to 2 pages when filling in the passport number....the last digit changes it to 2 pages.
I will leave the last digit and just add it by hand after printing.
Thanks!

Incoming residents should note that the space for 'Visa Number' on your arrival card refers to the hand written number in your re entry permit.
Ask me how I found out
Thanks, good to know!
I assume you found out the hard way

Can anyone confirm that the TM.8 form found at this Thaivisa link...
http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/files/file/8-tm8-re-entry-permit-into-the-kingdom-application-form/
...is still the one that can be used now, at Suvarnnabhumi Airport?
And the required photograph is still 4 x 6 cm?
Thanks.
Yes and yes. But that form is a MSword document that will jump from 1 page to 2 pages if you don't have the correct program to open it. An alternative is this form that is a PDF file: http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/download/pdf/tm8.pdf
Thanks ubonjoe
Does it matter if the last line is on a second page, will they not accept if you then only submit the first page (with last line missing)?

Is there any required remaining validity time on the visa when one applies for a re-entry permit at the airport?
For instance, if one has a Non Imm B visa, single entry, and applies for a re-entry permit (at airport, hours before flight out) 6 weeks
before the expiry date ("enter before date" on the visa): is this possible?
Also, should one not get a re-entry permit BEFORE one is stamped out by immigration (when one has a single entry Non Imm B visa)?
(referring to ubonjoe's post that the office to apply for re-entry permit at DM is AFTER the immigration desks,
therefore, after one is stamped out).
Thanks

@Ubonjoe: thanks for your help. I did indeed post in a topic about schools.
I was browsing for info on extension of Non Imm B and saw your remark, and just
posted my query.
Thanks for responding!
@aidenai: apparently it is not a prohibited profession as I've been doing it, with work permit, for 4 years here now.

I am a loss adjuster (insurance claims).

I am not a teacher, so do I need such certificate?
-
^^
Thanks Ubonjoe.
I would ask: that website mentions an effective date of 1st October 2012, so, why was I not asked for it at Savannakhet 3 months ago?
Also, can I just go to the police station and request for it?
I must say that that website is not really working well.

It is possible to do a transition from one school to another without having to leave the country if you have already found a new school to teach at before your current contract ends.
You extension will end as soon as you are longer working.
They are now asking for a Thai police clearance certificate to get a non-b visa in Vientiane. It can take 3 to 4 weeks to get.
@Ubonjoe.........do they also now require such certificate when applying for new non imm B visa at Savannakhet??
Yes they do.
I suppose that is for a single entry non imm B visa as well?
And how does one go about obtaining such certificate?

Is there a list of reqirements for non immigrant B visa
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

@Ubonjoe
From that pdf file, when applying for reason of employment, it seems that one does not have to submit any company documents, such as bussiness registration, shareholderd list, annual statement, VAT registratiom, last monthly salary and social security payments, company lpcation map, list of foreign employees etc.
So, every time I apply for new single entry Non Imm B visa at Savannakhet, and submit all the above, I actually submit much more then needed?????
The staff there never mentioned this to me.
So, its certain that one actually only needs a company invitation lettet, copy of employment contract and Letter of Approval of work permit application WP3???
