  1. I went there too for the same visa.

    The day I actually applied;

    - i did not bring my wife

    - nor a letter from her

    - I forgot a copy of her ID: the lady allowed me to have it sent to me by email, printed, then submitted

    - No request for her passport

    - I did have a copy of my passport, details page, but with old date (that didnt seem to matter)

    - I did give the Kor Ror 3 copy, after I copied the back.

    - I showed the original marriage certificate

    - And I showed the certified copy and english translation of the marriage form, which I got back

    - I showed the original marriage form

    - I showed the original tabien baan, but she did not care for it

    - I only gave one photograph, without my name/signature on the back

I hope it stays that easy there.

  2. @trajan

I didn't ask about 2 or 3 years membership, or pay an annual fee upfront.

The offer I got is for monthly cash payments.

Thats ok, because I don't want to be tied down.

I like flexible, so I can walk away from it anytime.

I would never pay an annual fee at once upfront.

I think the whole 'I will waive you the 8,000 baht joining fee...' is just a sales pitch, to make it look good.

    Probably offered to everybody.

It is obvious they are driven by commission, seal the deal as quickly as possible.

    I am a number, not a guest.

But that seems to be common place everywhere nowadays. Gone are the days of 'customer is king'.

Having said that, at the end of the day, you go there to exercise, not chit chat with the staff.

I cannot comment yet on the actual gym/equipment.

  3. I went to True Fitness today at Asok Exchange Tower.

    I just walked in.

Immediately they wanted me to put my name and phonenumber on a form, and told me about

a wonderful promotion, that I could get if I have been living in Thailand for 1 year or more.

    Then they sat me down.

Then a lady came with more forms.

But I just said I wanted to get information only.

But she insisted on filling in the form. It didn't say contract or anything so I filled it in.

Then she wanted to show me around the place.

I again said I just wanted to talk, get the prices.

So she got out some piece of paper, that had 3 amounts on it.

First, 8K for joining, 1800 something for processing, and 2500 something for monthly membership fee.

Then she went into this sales pitch I guess, where she, as if doing me a favour, waived the 8K joining fee.

Then cut the processing fee by half.

And finally, discounted the monthly fee to 1,799 baht/m. So initial payment would be 2,599 baht.

Of course, my credit card would be automatically charged each month for that amount.

Then I gave the wonderful news that I don't have a credit card. I like to pay cash.

She then went to talk to her boss. Somewhere out of sight.

Then she returned and didn't really say how or why., but it was still possible even with cash payments only.

Then a guy came, they spoke Thai, which oddly didn't sound like Thai, I couldn't get any of it.

Then they asked if I have a driving license. I do.

Well, then I could go to a bank and get a credit card.

Then I said, I don't want to have a credit card.

That required a moment of thought.

Then the two spoke again, probably nothing flattering.

But it did result in making an exception for me, and do with cash payments.

Again she showed what I would have to pay now.

Then I said, I didn't intend to join or pay now, but I would come back Saturday.

That required another moment for thought, brief deliberation between the two.

Ok, what time would I come? In the morning.

Ok, but maybe the promotion is not valid anymore then.

So I said, that would be my loss.

    Ok, ok.

Then she got out a business card, wrote down her name and mobile number, and

BV (whatever that may mean) and the agreed price.

    And to come back Saturday.

Then she got up and left.

My mistake of course is that I did not check out the gym, but I can still do that later.

    Well, the price is reasonable.

They probably waive the fees for everybody, not especially for me, but ok.

    Sales tricks.

I'm actually looking for a normal good gym. Not a place where 'hip' and 'trendy' is the main image.

What I just didn't like was the attitude of the staff.

No friendly faces, the lady never smiled. In fact, she gave the expression she would rather be talking to someone else.

    No nice friendly greeting.

    No nice friendly goodbye.

It was like being at McDonalds.....the pace of it: order - exchange - move - next.

Years ago I went to Balance Fitness, in CMIC Tower (now KTower) but it isn't there anymore.............that was a good nice place....where did they go???

  4. I am on 90 days entries visa issued outside of Thailand (last one last week in Savannakhet).

Actually, I've never applied for extension of permission to stay on a non imm O, or any visa for that matter.

It seems to me, leaving Thailand and applying for a brand new non imm O marriage is easier than extending, albeit a bit more expensive. So far anyway.

I didn't know one would have a choice with a non imm B: still do 90-day border runs OR 90-day reporting inside Thailand.

I thought, once you obtain a non imm B, you can only do the latter.

But this is not so, ?

  5. Reading this post, a question comes to mind:

I've seen it mentioned a few times, that one either needs 400K in a bank account, or proof of income/letter of income from embassy of at least 40K per month.

What if your income is in Thailand, as you work in Thailand (with wp etc.), what would one then need?

Contract showing at least that amount? Or letter from employer??

If so, only a contract/letter in Thai, not certified by any other organisation?

    Thanks!

  6. There is parking area (left side) at the bridge on the Thai side.

I stayed over night in Laos, with my car still in Thailand.

It was ok when i got back. Didn't see any special guards for the car park though.

There is another post on TV about taking a car into Laos, you should read that.

As for hotels: there are plenty of hotels and guesthouses around, no real need to book.

Just ask the tuk tuk drivers.

If you don't drive your own car over the bridge, there is only a busservice over the bridge, Thai-Lao Int'l bus, at 50 baht pp.

  7. I am working on a wp in BKK now, but I also worked on one in 2005/2006, after which I left Thailand to work in my country for 3 years.

What I remember is, is that the company I worked for at that time cancelled the wp. I never saw any of that.

I also just left the country. In fact, I still stayed a month in Thailand with my family before I left, on that non imm B.

When I left, no questions asked, or request for papers.

And now I'm back here, on non imm O, with wp, on same tax ID, without any problems (knock on wood).

I dont think they ask any person, stamping out at the airport, with a non imm B, for papers, or if they are leaving indefinetely. They would have to ask every person with a non imm B every time.

In fact, they never ask any questions.

Of course, it is wise to keep your tax receipts at hand, monthly salary slips etc.

And next time I will make sure I get the receipt you are supposed to get when you cancel your wp.

  8. I have a non imm O visa based on marriage (and children in Thailand).

It was no problem to get a wp on that visa. I have one.

The Labour Dept, in Bangkok (the one near Viphavidi Rd i think (are there any others in BKK, btw?)), said that as I have dependents in Thailand, I can work, and get a wp, on a non imm O marriage visa.

I and also dont want to change to non imm B, as the non imm O will continue, even after job/wp are terminated (thats what i've been told here anyway).

And I didn't use a lawyer, just the Thai office manager of the company I work at.

    Hope this helps!

  9. I went to Savannakhet yesterday to apply for a non imm O marriage visa!

Applied around 10 am, was told to come back the following day at 2 pm!

Apparently that is standard now for a non imm visa.

I was not asked for any proof of funds, luckily!!!!

I got the non imm O multiple entry visa this afternoon :)

Note: the lady taking the applications is not the friendliest...not yesterday and today anyway.

Maybe having 80 people coming to apply everyday does that to you.

So what is it I read in this thread about changes to non imm O requirements sometime this year???

  10. @lopburi3

I do plan to go to Savannakhet, with all the documents you mentioned, copies and originals.

I'm even taking my wife!!! :)

Well, based on the assumption that Thais don't have to buy a visa for Laos, as I read that somewhere here recently,

although that was a post from 2007.

I will even take a copy of my wp (company keeps original), and employment contract, but won't show unless

    specifically asked.

I had my wife also call immigration in Phibun, and they said copies are not even needed, just originals, including her Thai ID.

I plan to take as many docs with me as possible....better too many than too little!

Then the first priority is getting there on time, preferably before 10.30 am even.

Will start driving at 7 am, from Ubon to Mukdahan.

Took me 2.5 hours last time I went there, years ago.

Will post my (hopefully positive) experience here after.

    Cheers!

  11. Perhaps a silly question, but since one never knows: are thai consulates in neighbouring countries operating normally on 23/24 Jan,

particularly Savannakhet - Laos, considering it's Chinese New Year?

I know at first guess you would think there is no relation, but then again, one never knows in this region.

I cannot seem to find the answer elsewhere on the net (www.mfa.go.th doesn't load).

    Thanks!!

  12. I currently have a wp, and it was issued on the non imm O last year June.

As I recall, I'm allowed to work on a non imm O, and can get a wp on it, because

I am married and have children here.

Thats what we (I and my Office Manager) weret told last year.

I did go to immigration here in BKK a few weeks ago, to enquire about this, but the lady official was

very unfriendly and unhelpful, even though I was only number 9 that morning.

She was very curt, so I couldn't have it all explained to me.

If I would have pushed, she would have "smacked my ears" :D

    (pun intended)

  13. @wayned

    Thanks!

    1) The less I have to deal with any immigration, the better.

    2) I don't meet either of the financial requirements.

    3) The less documents I need, the better.

It seems that my best option is to just go to Laos, apply for a new non imm O, on the basis of

marriage/children, and go back to work, and exit/enter every 90 days.

Basically, if my job ends (for whatever reason), my wp is terminated, but also my non imm B visa (although I can get limited extensions).

However, when I have a non imm O, my permission to stay continues, regardless of jobs/wp's, correct?

It's odd that there are financial requirements for when you apply for extension, but not for applying

for a brand new. But convenient for me.

I take it the above follows current regulations?

    Cheers!

  14. Hi All,

My situation is very similar to this topic right now, as I have to renew my non imm O visa.

Some background: I got my non imm O visa in Holland, on the basis of marriage/children in Thailand,

    in November 2010.

I entered Thailand late Nov 2010.

I started a job in Bangkok beginning of June 2011, and got a work permit on the non imm O.

In October 2011 I went back to Holland for 2 weeks. Came back to Thailand on Nov 1st 2011.

    Got a 90-day stamp until 29th Jan 2012.

The non imm O visa expired on 26th Nov 2011.

Obviously, I have to renew my non imm O this month.

    Questions:

    1) Should I opt for a non imm B, with docs from my employer, or should I go for non imm O?

I heard that the non imm B is linked to the work permit; so if the wp (and/or job) is cancelled/over, the non imm B would be finished, and I would have no visa. I do plan to look for another job, and not continue after my contract expires end May 2012.

    2) Can I get a new non imm O here in Bangkok?

I went to immigration here in BKK twice, both times I was not treated friendly, to say the least.

    3) If I apply for non imm O, let's say in Laos, should I just stick to the marriage/parental aspect, and not mention my job/wp in Bangkok?

I sure don't have 400K baht in any account.

What would be my best option???

    Thanks!
