  1. I have now been trying to set up an online payment system via paypal for months! I have to use paypal! My Thai bank acccount is a Kasikorn savings account. I have tried many things but cannot get my paypal account to verify my debit card details!

Can anyone please shed some light on what I may doing wrong or what I might not be doing?

    Thanks in advance,

    B.

  2. I have had a look around these computer shops and there are many choices with prices ranging from about 400thb up to 3500thb, I just wanted to know if the lower end of the market offers any value for money or if it should be avoided!

  3. Hi all.

The above line says it all. I am looking to buy a web cam and have a limited budget.

Any recommendations or advice on which one to definitely avoid.

  4. Where is buying a visa inside the country being visited or once inside the country ever 'normal practice'... anywhere?

Second, my country (or any other country for that matter) does NOT SELL Visas at travel agents.

Many countries in the World allow certain types of visa (including visit or tourist visas) to be extended while in-country or permit the holder to switch to a different visa-class without exiting the country. Some nations (to my certain knowledge, for example, Cambodia, Vietnam and China) also permit travel and/or other agencies to quite legally attend the immigration office and complete these formalities on behalf of clients for a fee.

Just because the Thais like to give foreigners the immigration run-around, doesn't mean to say that everywhere else does too.

Visa services can be paid for within the uk!

  5. Welcome to the land of scams , that is if you have lots of cash on hand , you can also purchase a visa at a travel agent in Cambodia , a legal one , but not for travel to the Uk .

    Hello dumb.

May I take this opportunity to point out that you are more likely to get scammed if you appear to have lots of cash on hand and not tucked away, safely, in your pocket (or bank) where no one can see it. I decline to comment on the rest of your statement.

  6. If Loy Kroh is grotty then its become the natural offshoot for the night bazaar area which is just passable by night, but incredibly gross by day. In fact, thanks in large part ot the tatty metal carts around the place, it is one of the ugliest downtown areas I have come across. What a wasted opportunity.

Thapae Road also has huge potential for beautification into an upmarket shopping precinct. I disagree though with the need for widespread "modernisation" ... In this area I would go for restoration and sensitive modification & re-use of the old buildings with a northern thai/lanna theme. Keep the gleaming new buildings and modern look for Nimmenhamin or some other designated precinct.

I couldn't agree more, and I think you'd find that the Thai authorities would also agree, especially with your statements about the night bazaar. I read somewhere that the night bazaar has stopped receiving funds from the local government in favour of places such as the walking street market. Very sensible.
  7. Hi All,

I know this question has been raised on many occasions but the thread I found is a couple of years old and know for sure some of the posts are now out-of-date. So I can I please have some up-to-date information on the whereabouts of any dry cleaners, and an idea of what they charge.

    Thanks in advance,

    B.

  8. Hiya,

You don't mention what kind of visa you now have in your passport. If you have a work permit with a year visa you have to get a re-entry visa. If you fail to do this your current status will be cancelled, and you will have to start the whole proccess again! I believe if you do this you will not have to report for 90 days upon re-entering.

    Hope this helps.

  9. If you have Sophon cable, Pattaya People TV (channel 11 on my set) is in English 24 hours a day. Alternatively there is Pattaya Mail TV (on channel 2) about 4 times a day, Pattaya One TV (channels 27 and 40) on 4 times a day, and Sawadee TV (channel 27) a couple of times a day. They are all in English and present news and views from around Pattaya. But they have LOADS of adverts that are very amateurish (as are the programs) and never change.

    Thanks for your response.

just one question. Do you know if they are run/owned by foreigners?

  10. I was wondering if there is any English language broadcast service covering local news and events in and around Pattaya?

If there is what is it and how can I view it?

    Thanks in advance,

  11. Hiya everyone.

I just need some advice about taking my meagre earnings to china for a holiday, or rather, them taking me. What should I do and what shouldn't I do to make them Bahts stretch? :)

    Thanks in advance,

    B.

do not change your thai baht for yuan in thailand, I took with me some us dollars, the echange rates was higher there

Thanks for that! i'll check the rate for baht to dollars, I already have the chinese rates for baht:yuan and dollar:yuan

  12. Quite often, organized tours in China will include stops at shopping and dining venues. In almost all cases these places kick back to the tour operators and their prices tend to be well over what you might find practically anywhere else on your journey and quite often high pressure sales tactics are employed. Don't feel compelled to buy anything from these places if its not something you want to do anyway.

If taking a tour be sure to know what is included and what you may need to pay for "extra". Always carry something to drink and a snack with you. Have fun.

I am not going on a tour.

  13. Sorry, but am I right in saying that Thaksin cannot be extradited from England until a foreign government requests his extradition? If so this thread is bull as the Thai government haven't / won't enter/ed into these procedures as it is they who advised / helped him to leave the country in the first place.

his wife is a convicted crimenal, so what england has to do? its very well known that she is to go to jail.

hope england is better than thailand and send her back, and let her rot in jail :o

This is impossible as things stand at the moment.

I do think that if the Thai government act (and I don't think they will, as I have already mentioned) the best course of action for them would be to attack his wife as she has already been convicted and would be easier to extradite, then the husband might well follow on his own will.
