1. So, what do you think about Thaksin? Luxuriate in the UK or face "justice" back in Thailand where he is now a wanted criminal?

let tham all rot in jail for this what they don, fries all there money and assests, enough is enough :o

'Should The UK Extradite Thaksin To Face The Thai Courts?' is the question asked in this thread. Not wether he is guilty of anything!

The answer to this question is clearly NO as the the Thai government has not requested this. The English government cannot extradite Thaksin because they have nowhere to extradite him to. The only action they can take is to deport him from English land, and only if they consider him as undesirable as devined within the eyes of the British laws.

2. Sorry, but am I right in saying that Thaksin cannot be extradited from England until a foreign government requests his extradition? If so this thread is bull as the Thai government haven't / won't enter/ed into these procedures as it is they who advised / helped him to leave the country in the first place.

3. I would like to know too because two weeks ago I looked all over town for one of those bulbs and could not find any. Finally had to order it and it still has not come.

If I find one, I'll let you know. There must be somewhere.

4. I need to replace a delight DL-18w strip lightbulb, the other specs are 1,050 lm 58 lm/W 16,000 hrs. Where am I likely to find such a bulb in Chiang Mai?

Thanks in advance,

did you try home pro? opp carfoure?>

I thought of home pro but didn't fancy going all the way over there and being disappointed.

I'll look next week though.

6. Hi. Can anyone suggest any decent vcd authoring software. I am currently using NTI cd & dvd-maker 7, which came with my machine, but am unhappy with its results.

I am trying to burn a 5 min video presentation, so memory is not a problem but my burner still drastically compresses the video . This is unacceptable and it offers me no options.

What can I do?

7. do they have to dance the hokie cokie? or, be told how much the bush family is respected across the world?
Of course! But no mispronunciations. You do the hokey-pokey, you turn yourself about, and that's what it's all about. Thanks for questions number 10 and 11.

As the Who asked, "Who's next"?

Loaded was actually more correct. The hokie cokie first appeared in England, the hokie pokey appeared in the US later. Go google it!

8. Hi there, this fruit is called 'mack kam pom' it is found in the forests of northern thailand it has the diameter of a five baht coin and is green. The change to sweet happens more noticably when you drink some water whilst eating the fruit.

You can find them in BKK as this is where I first ate one, the second time I was on a Pai-Mae Hong Song bus when my girlfriend gave me one. She was totally shocked when I knew its name and that I had eaten one in BKK as she said it was 'jungle food'.

I hope this helps you.

10. Lots of good information on this forum… I want to go to Chiang Mai a couple of days after I arrive in Bangkok. I'm hoping to catch the overnight train leaving the evening of October 20th but have heard that advance reservations are recommended. So, should I make a reservation via one of the agencies recommended here: http://www.seat61.com/Thailand.htm#How to book

or is it likely that I'll be able to buy a ticket a day in advance at the station itself [i'm hoping for 2nd class non a/c].

Thanks!

I have always just turned up at the station, bought my ticket, boarded the train and gone, never had a problem. For peace of mind though you can buy an advance ticket from the station a day or so before departure. I would only book in advance if there was a major holiday or festival taking place and, thinking about it, all the schools are on holiday until the end of the month so, yes, it is, probably, recommendable to visit the ticket office a couple of days in advance, especially if your keen to get the seat of your choice.

11. I think a lot of progress could be made if every 7/11 started following the model of the ones in (for example) Taipei and just ASK if you need a bag, instead of automatically giving you one even for something as simple as a can of Coke.

This would be a very good move. I find it infuriating. I usually say I don't need a bag especially as I am usually going to consume the product as soon as I leave the premises and hate putting the bag streight into the bins provided outside. The problem is that if I get distracted for a nanosecond, bang, the bag is out and the purchase inserted and it is too late. I don't like to embarrass the boy/girl behind the counter so I let it go. It is especially a problem when I but a packet of cigaretttes or something that is destined for my pocket!!

12. Clean up operations in pai are the norm when officials visit, these used to include the enforcement of wearing crash helmets, police officers hiding in the bushes near the waterfall (where the hilltribers sell there (illicit) wares) etc. On one occasion people caught with drugs wern't given the opportunity to 'pay an on the spot fine' but were shipped straight to BKK. The motorbike checks were only in the morning and were at the same junction every day, this was announced before the checks started so was easy to avoid.

13. I heard of a couple of lads who fancied going to a park and flying a kite. They then, being new to Los and it's lingo, proceeded to look this up in a dictionary and then walk around shops in the banglamphu area of BKK saying 'chack wow' without even putting khrap at the end!

14. I heard a story about a bar being raided on Koh Samui. The police closed the bar, handed out sample recepticles to customers and were testing the samples as they left. The enterprising and pre-warned staff Thai staff were selling bags of 'clean' urine for B1000 a pop. Don't know if this is true or not but it amused me upon hearing it!

15. I felt this near Big C, Chiang Mai. there was like a little wave followed by a big jolt. A collegue mentioned to me that it was a local one, he proceded with phoning his relatives, whom I presume live fairly close by.
