  1. What kind of warning are they going to give to tourist?

"WARNING! Some Thai drivers will reach down to the floor of their cab to pick up stray baseball caps, bottles of M150, and other things while driving at high speed."

Lets not be unrealistic here. This specific case is not a Thai issue, I dont believe. Several cases happens a year in california with similar results. A someone drops a ph, a lady is putting on makeup, a teen is eating a burger, and the winner almost every year, Someone is texting!!!. Yes, this happened in Thailand, but it happens everyday world wide.

Its just a sad case, thats all. I know we'd all like to vent our anger, and fustration. but lets be a little more realistic about the cause, and how we can help prevent a similar thing in the future.

In this case, the cause was an inattentive driver sad.png and the result is a particually sad situation.

    just my 2 cents

Maybe the example of a warning I used was a little off. But, the point is - what warning are they going to give? Please be carefull driving in Thailand as we don't know how. huh.png

  2. For those on tourist visas who do a lot of border runs, I wonder if the new 10-year passport option is a wise option. A border official may look at all your stamps on your 10-year passport and say "you've travelled enough...no more visas for you." Whereas with a 5-year passport, the counter is reset to zero every five years.

It is a catch 22 situation. The new ePassport is supposed to have 10 additional visa pages. From 24 to 36 pages total. More then enough space to fill up but, as stated, too many visa stamps MAY raise some questions.

On another note - if Thailand was to use the "Smartgate" immigration kiosk, we would never have to deal with an immigration officer...

    More info on the new Canadian ePassport;

  3. According to CTV news (Canada), the Canadian passport renewal fees will go up significantly next July, 2013.

    http://www.ctvnews.c...tions-1.1087136

Specifically, for all Canadian expats living in Thailand, it means that renewing your passport in Bangkok will cost $190 CDN for a 5 year book. A new 10 year book will be introduced at $260 CDN.

Passport renewal done in Canada will cost $120 CDN for the 5 year book and $160 CDN for the 10 year book.

So, if your passport expires soon, get it done before July 2013 and save some money.

BTW, I love the response that was given by Passport Canada agency when asked if the fees may hamper low-income people and senior citizen and what alternate solutions can be had...

"Canadians unsatisfied with the passport fee increase may also choose an alternative travel document, such as a NEXUS card," the agency said. "Or (they may) decide not to travel."

  4. Pure speculation as I am not there to see it with my own eyes, but --

From what I see in the tear gas videos is that the police fired first (note the smoke trail being straight being launched from a firing mechanism) then a protester picked it up to throw it back at them (note the spiral smoke trail as the canister spins through it's trajectory)

Unless there is a camera that actually shows a protester doing the deed, it is and remains pure speculation.

  5. "This will position dtac as the most-prepared telecom operator to launch 4G services in Thailand. All this reflects dtac's leadership in communication technology, and the fact that it now has one of the most advanced mobile networks in Asia," Prathet said.

Got to love this one. Most advanced mobile networks in Asia??? Credit for him to not have said 'in the world'.

  6. Blimey old Thaksin is going to up the ante now, no doubt we will hear and read some interesting revelations in the not too distant future. It'll be interesting to se what price loyaty may be be too, along with thesettling of old grudges.

Interesting point. The more "suspects" are found (whether or not they are actually guilty of anything is besides the point) the more ammo the Thaskin camp can use in their defense. They will be able to say to anyone who gives a dam_n 'See! It wasn't us.'

  7. Skip the 3G bidding and go directly to the 4G (LTE) bidding process. It's not like they have to wait for the 4G technology to be created and implemented...just purchase and install.

By the time they've done with that, 5G (or whatever it will be called) will be used elsewhere.

I was curious as to what countries have 4G and this is the map.

In short, red is LTE(4G) 'established', dark blue is 'in deployment' and light blue is 'Trial'

Strangely enough, wikipedia has Truemove listed as having 4G !?!?!?! Must be a copy 4G. (shhhhh...don't tell Lady Gaga this. She may want to come back)
